One of my fav tracks from the album. The whole album is great!!! Just bought it. Back in the day was only familar with the hits: Give it on Up, Jucy Fruit, You me & He etc.
I APOLOGIZE TO THOSE WHO RESPONDED TO MY COMMENT AND I NEVER GOT BACK TO YALL. but it is true. this new generation all though it bothers me when i critisize them (i still do it though lol) the creativity isn't there. i am amazed that these kids can only listen to todays rap and nothing else. my tape in my beat box went from sugar hill, curtis blow, africa bambatta, double trouble, to ll cool j, anita baker, joni mitchell, madonna, lionel richie, back to earth wind and fire, to angela bofill,
@bigben1986 we would have better musicians if the government hadn't stripped schools of a music program, I was fortunate enough to have played the trombone in 5th grade back in 2001, and I atleast learned how to play a couple of miles davis tunes on it, but once I got to middle school they replace all the arts programs with after School standardized test prep programs, due to no child left behind. so blame the goverment, not the kids.

I love this piece the first time I heard was in Detroit and then I was in love with this Syrian beauty that I never reached. This makes me nostalgic and regretful, but not pessimistic.
Quality track takes me back to the days of Frankie Crocker ruling the N.Y.C. airwaves..ohh how i miss those days of less stress & powerful tunes like this pouring out of cars & house windows during steamy hot summer afternoons/eve.. the smell of the grill..fire hydrants pourng out water as the girls play jacks & the boys play stickball... FOND MEMORIES that i will take to my grave!
I used to always hear these types of songs at night on "quiet storm" while in bed , brings back memories, very dreamy song, kind of reminds me of being out in space, something peaceful, or travel
hi world people, i m looking for artist to sing on my music this is an sos, i ve never asked before.i thought here it s the best place to ask just under the face of Master Mtume..
@lastshallbfirst ...so true,it just takes time and patience to look for great music and you will find it.if am not taking time to listen to my collection of classics i just log on to Youtube and get to listen to rare classic grooves
From time to time I'll surf YT just to see what musical treasures of yesteryear I can find, and I'm found some real gems! Although I only vaguely remember the name of this group, that fact leads me to believe I'd heard their music back in the day. Like others have eluded to in their comments I, too, came of age in the late 70's (I'll turn 50 in Oct. '10), and long for the originality of those days that today's music seriously lack. Anyway, I'm glad I stumbled upon yet another gem. :-)
i grew up in the late 70's through the 80's into the early 90's here in nyc. let me tell you. despite the crack, the drugs, crime, poverty that this wild city had, we as kids and teenagers and peeps in ur early 20's had a blast. we had so much fun and didnt have much. today kids have it all and there bored. how?????
@bigben1986 im with you man.. i too grew up in that era & as i write i have chills running up mu spine due to your words. Its so true that n.y.c & the music from that era was special & get this we did have very little but made the best out of nothing. Games we played like hide & go get it, red light green light, hot beans & butter, spin the bottle. 2days kids... have life in their hands & want more.
@bigben1986 If i could take my daughter back into time on that journey i would & invite others just to witness the fond memories. Just listening to the music tells the truth. The quality tops 2days sounds by a landslide. WE HAD LESS TECHNOLOGY 2DAY THEY HAVE MORE & THE MUSIC SUCKS!!
@bigben1986 Yo i was telling my wife that just yesterday..i wouldn't trade it for anything....We are the hip hop generation, i believe our generation made it possible for us to elect a first black president..Hip Hop not only knocked down doors sonically but it helped bridge the gap between various races and cultures
@bigben1986 Well, the kid I'm raising doesn't have it all, and I try my best to educate him musically. If music remains one of his interests in the future, I hope it will help him as it helped me.
@bigben1986 Hey, bigben, though you and I come from very different backgrounds, I agree...even into the 90s, music, because you couldn't just download it anytime, anywhere, was more precious, more rooted to our lives. You REALLY had to listen to know what to groove to and what to just cast aside. This track astounds me because its influence on the "acid jazz" of the 90s is so clear. The older I get, the more I allow myself to just drown in hour on hour of 70s funk-R&B-disco-jazz fusion. P
@bigben1986 I grew up in the early 90's, and I had a blast as a kid while I happened to be in the poverty level. For some reason, life means more to ya when there's no silver platter.
@bigben1986 I feel sorry for the younger generations who were too young to remember (or were not born yet) during the late 1970s- early 1980s. I wouldn't have traded that time for anything in the world- You cannot buy what we had- and spirit is something no one destroys.
@DreDM it's J rolling music....look at the title..."kiss the world goodbye"....and I don't even roll or partake in j's but I feel you #donjudgeme#imjustsayin#imadome
hell Im white and I love this kind of music, ya'll are awsome, god bless, im collecting every one of these songs I can find, hope to stream them over the net one of these days for "that" audience 24/7
Why can't radio just give the people what they want? There is a huge untapped audience out there that are starved to death of high quality music like this and do not wish to listen to kids music (modern r&b and rap). It's ridiculous that like minded people with a genuine passion for good music are considered criminals just because they love great music that isn't mainstream!
Sadly the only place to hear it is either internet radio or pirate stations. We are the listerners who do not spend money (apparently) so their is no commercial value for them. JazzFM was a prime example of this.
You said it all right there! I appreciate this music from the late 70's... I always sat there as a 6-7 year old looking at the crates of records my Mom and my Uncle and Aunt had.
Amen to that my friend, I live n Philly & all I can listen 2 is 2 stations, 88.5 & 90.1, BOTH COLLEGE RADIO STATIONS! James Mtume is a bad motha_uckah!
This is a gem. But just about EVERYWHERE I look the LP is being sold for like $60 up to $200! Hows that for true value. Especially after all these years too.
'Lovelock' is featured on the cd Soul Togetherness presents : The Best of Mtume & Lucas released in the UK on Expansion Records. Thankfully, I own a vinyl copy of 'Kiss & Say Goodbye' which yes, I agree, deserves a long overdue re-issue.
correct on both accounts... Flora Purim's version is also very nice, I like 'em both a lot. Tawatha's vocals are little bit more relaxed, Flora does a lot more improvisation.
Wow! This song is missing from the digital age until now! I'm adding it to a office Christmas Party Mix (Lunch portion)...can't thank you enough! I first heard this in DC on WHUR after graduation...
Was big here in England first if you loved Jazz Funk, back in 1977 to 1978. Then the Rare Groove Brgiade got hold of this here in England, during the Rare groove crazy during 1985 and 1986, in London...Wow those were the days. London, at that time was more funky place to be then New York, Philadelphia or any major city of the Usa, that this music originated from. This was due to the huge illiegal pirate radio stations that operated at the time playing this music, & partys that resulted from it
THANK YOU!! This is my #1 favorite song of all time. I fell in love with the the Flora Purim version, then, while in college, heard this version on the radio and taped it, but never knew who it was! I never thought I would hear it again!!
