The film was an indictment of unthinking fundamentalist believers which, given the fundamentally (excuse the pun) Christian society in which they live, was expressed in biblical terms. Any Jew or Christian who takes offence is so far up their own that this film was probably about you.

Even in our "modern" and "enlighted" times you find people who think, by leaving out the "o" and just writing "G_d" they have not said or written what they have said or written. Where is the difference between "Thank God" or "Oh, me God" and "Thank G_d" or "Oh, me G_d"? There isn't any. If you ask me, that is blasphemy, because it will mean that "HE" is a bloody fool who can be cheated upon easily.

The Life of Brian was completely and totally ignorant on many levels. This scene wouldn't have taken place in ancient times. As Jehovah wasn't the name not to be uttered in vain. He would have been stoned if he had uttered YHWH.
