The answer turns out to be: I'm going to give the American Auto Industry a chance to redeem itself and become profitable again in spite of all ot the Republican assholes who would rather that you all just go bankrupt. But he really couldn't say that at that time could he? Well he sure as hell can say it now.
people call me sweetie all the time, its a general term for women or children or even some men... nothing offensive. Like saying hun, sug, sweetheart... I grew up in the south being called "child" "sweetie" or whatnot... and then moved to Indiana and even at the age of 28 would go to buy a pack of smokes and the cashier would hand them to me saying "here ya go sugar". People need to stop being so sensitive and worry about real issues.
The reporter sounded like a 12-year-old girl, both in her high pitch, overly emotional tone and infantile phrasing. That's why he reacted to her that way.
Obama said he was for the little guy. He voted for the $700 billion TARP bailout of big banks and financial institutions. Obama said he wants a strong private sector. Was this before or after he took over GM and Chrysler? Obama said he needed every penny of his $787 billion stimulus plan to immediately jump-start our economy. Since then, another 2.7 million jobs have been lost. But this is an election yr and the Dems held back $550 billion of the "stimulus" package to "stimulate" voters in Nov.
Sweetie! The guy's awesome! He's a reel person in office and not a political noble, higher jackass. He says sweetie, walks in random burger joints, isn't as formal and wears more casual cloths. He's the type of leader you can relate to. He's like Trudeau. I bet anyone who lives close to the White House can invite him to a barbecue and he'll come.
I don't think it was saying sweetie that made anyone upset it was the fact he brushed her off well actually he brushed off the workers concerns for their job.
Senator Obama meant no disrespect; it wasn't said that way. He was being bombarded and hounded and he was most gracious under the circustances. It's the tone, not the word. Ladies, you can't have it both ways; be a grown up.
The double standard is clear....Dems can be condenscending, arrogant and "out of touch" and demeaning to women...but only if the women are not liberal Dems!
I can't stand Obama. But none of you -- NONE of you -- actually cares about his use of the word "sweetie." You're just pretending to.
At any rate, far more annoying than any "sweetie" is the notion -- peddled by both the reporter and the workers -- that a president should be "doing something" about "their" jobs. Do they think he's supposed to be a king? Do they understand how American governance is supposed to actually work? Do they understand freedom, individualism, rights, stuff like that?
You have very serious anger management problems. You hyperbolize everything, you are not able to give your opinion in a calm, thoughtful way. I can try to imagine how hard it must be to be you, but you could really use some coolness when expressing yourself. It would be the first step to a more peaceful existence.
It would be nice if just once, a liberal could look deep inside and admit how angry he/she would be if Bush were the one calling her sweetie. The feminist groups would be on all the shows; protests would hit the streets... This guy is lost withhout a teleprompter and an advisor giving him the answer.
Hope I don't offend anyone, ok sweetie. Bush is not the cause of your emotional problems and Obama is not the answer to them!
If you are a woman or you are for womens rights vote Obama.
He lives in, loves & respects his family of 3 women.
McCain on the other hand cheated on his first wife many times over and treats his current wife so bad that she resorts to prescription drugs to deal with his old fashioned, inbred ways!
We all know about John McCain's temper. It's well documented. He's called opponents and colleagues "shit heads," "assholes" and in at least one case "a fucking jerk." He even called his wife a "cunt."
But we know Obama said "sweetie," and that is SO MUCH more offensive!
So, strike a blow to feminism, and vote for McSame (After all, he got a zero rating from Planned Parenthood!)
Oh my god, HA CALLED SOMEONE SWEETIE !!!!!! I mean, its even worse than flipping the bird on camera, or asking a senator to go fuck himself !!!!!! Man, some bitches be way too crazy !!!!!!!!!!
Ooooh, Barack Obama didn't take time out of his busy schedule to answer some third-rate reporter's question! He's so evil!
Also, what's so bad about "sweetie"? If Hillary Clinton said "Just a second, honey" to a reporter, nobody would think anything of it. It's probably a little condescending, yes. But who the fuck cares? You're nominated for president, of course you're gonna think a little highly of yourself. Just keep it in control.
First of what is the big deal? You republicans are making a big deal out of nothing. SO he called her sweetie, but no one had anything to say when we found no weapons of mass destruction. In addition to that he recognized that what he said my have been inappropriate. He called HER and apologized to HER and that should have been the end of it. Besides, have you seen Peggy Agar? She most likely hasn't been anyone's sweetie since she was two.
He had other things on his plate at the time and was just politely giving her the brush off. If it was Hillary in the exact same situation, brushing off a male reporter while politely calling him "sweetie" you'd think it was fine. The reporter is just being hyper-sensitive in her summary.
Condescending prick. It's amazing the level of love that fools across the country have this giant dickhead. 'Lemme eat my waffle!' This guy is weak and so McGovernesc. Can't wait for the bell to ring and watch this dumbass in real debates.
Bigruss then dont be surprised when Hillary supporters dont give an F*** about your problems and vote for McCain in the general. Dont act shocked when BO and his piranah mouthed wife go home crying.
You haven't heard?... Obama will win with ease. If you want to vote for McCain and fuck soldiers over with 4 more years of war just cuz he calls a reporter sweetie. You are fucked up...
oo i understand that my dad was in media but also he said that the publicity this station will get wil be negative due to the nature of Obamas's releationship with the media...this is the one of the only 2 station that has talked bad about him this and fox....no other station has said anything bad about him or his response to this newsreporter....that is what the head of a news organization will hate.
you know this just shows how real obama is he was't dismissive but "sweet" anyone who off the cuff is that gentel you know has a good heart. there's so many ways that she could have been handled so you did see the real obama. and i've seen him say this a number of times during his townn hall meetings.

I'd like to see on Fox News or CNN a poll about how people responded to the "Sweetie" incident, or "Sweetiegate" as I call it. I'd like to see the poll broken down to see how it affected white working class voters and also I'd like to see how black women responded to it. Then I'd like to see a focus group with dials who were watching the video to show how much their approval rating went down when they heard the comment.
wow this is what is wrong with u dumb americans u dumb idoit....because of you people hate america and americans and don't want sht from them...The reason why he said "Sweetie" is because he is used to ttalking like that he is a laid back guy for people to jump on this just shows how much they can't take a black man as a president.why don't they pick on hilary when clearly she leid about the sniper thing and many other things. So you telling me a liar is better for president than laid back guy?
wow u are what is wrong with america stfu go outside and smell the air...for you to say "OSAMA BIN LYIN" Shows how much you know about politics u idoit the FBI was the one who trained and taught OSAMA everything he knows......that shows how far your knowledge about politics goes..not far huh?
Okay, "sweetie" is a Southern thing and not supposed to be offensive. I guess if someone Southern called Obama "boy" then he shouldn't be offended, 'cause it's a Southern thing.
I will be voting for Obama, should he get the nomination, but I'm still not happy with this condescending brush off to a reporter with a serious question about a serious issue.
Yes We Can....Decrease the amount of your take home pay.
Yes We Can....Stop Killing Terrorist and start killing our own Babies "Partial Birth Abortions"
Yes We Can....Decrease the military, and the security of this country, so that any terrorist that wants to come to the U.S. can come and blow us the hell up.
How far do you think the issues mattering most to women will be advanced by a man who doesn't even feel the need to respectfully deflect questions from a female reporter whom he deems to be a pest. Hope you're taking note, women of Oregon, Kentucky, Puerto Rico, Montana and S. Dakota.
Give me a break! I'm a female and I also loathe Obama, but COME ON! He was being polite. It's an expression, he wasn't hitting on her in front of a crowd of people. There's global warming, the war in Iraq, border control, and so many more things that are actually important in life! This reporter really needs a life and a different fifteen minutes of fame.
This was hardly a case of being polite. It was condescension, plain and simple. No doubt brought on by the fact that the reporter was asking a question he didn't want to answer. She was spoiling his feel good, press-the-flesh moment. Granted, terms of endearment are appropriate in other situations, but not in a professional to professional context. What if he said "Hold on there, sport." to Dan Rather or Mike Wallace. Would you say he was being polite then?
1sm08, i don't think a men would fall to pieces if he was called 'sport'. I think Obama is TERRIFIED of answering any tough questions. I totally agree with you about him being unprofessional. And you make a very good point about the 'feel good, press-the-flesh moment'. I just think there are bigger reasons to hate Obama. The first thing that comes to mind is BAIPA. I'm the last person to defend Obama and his complete evasion of hard questions. Sorry if I wasn't clear.
I support Senator Obama 100% in his run for President. However, that was very sexist. He would have never, ever called a male reporter "Sweetie". I am disappointed.
For all you immature propagandizers, stop name-calling and spreading lies. Wash your childish mouths out with soap. Bring on a mature discussion, or are you too afraid?

1) This video is fragrant propaganda to undermine Obama
2) Sweetie is a non-offensive term
3) Obama supports the working class as evident through all his speeches, while McCain says Bush's economy is 'perfectly fine' and McCain supports tax cuts for the rich.
1) Sweetie is common non-offensive terminology in many parts of the U.S. - men are called it all the time
2) Obama addressed these automotive issues in Grand Michigan, he was clearly too occupied in this video to answer reporters questions
3) Obama clearly supports the working class in all of his speeches, while McCain says the economy is 'perfectly fine' and McCain supports tax cuts for the rich.
I hope this propagandinizing news station FIRES its reporter for this outlandish propaganda video
Imagine Hillary called some black reporter "boy". That's how insulting calling a female reporter "sweetie" is. Trivializing, paternal, dismissive, arrogant. No change there - just the same old, same old.
GOD DAMN SEAN HANNITY!! GOD DAMN BILL O'REILLY!! GOD DAMN FOX NEWS!! GOD DAMN WALL STREET!! GOD DAMN NEO-CONSERVATIST!! GOD DAMN THE POLITICAL CORRECT POLICE!! GOD DAMN REPUBLICANS!! GOD DAMN BUSH!! GOD DAMN McCAIN!! GOD DAMN SORRY BASTARDS EVERY WHERE!! I think it sounds better like that!! soothing, Comforting even!

The potty mouth children here who have nothing better to do that spread retarded and non-sensical propaganda about a Candidate need to grow up and start focusing on the real issues.
hey jlharter, how about you grow some brains and finally put 2 and 2 together.. Obama doesnt seem to give a flying fuck about this country. he makes hundreds of claims, saying that he's 'here for change', yet all we've seen so far is the same mudslinging, waste-of-time campaigning that every election since the 1950's has had.
i dont care who you vote for, im moving to canada or england after im done with college (if this country doesnt fall to shambles before then)
Sweetie is a common term used throughout many parts of the U.S,, I am a male and I have been called sweetie time and time again at work, on college campus, and other places.
This video is a clear and pathetic attempt at propaganda to misrepresent the Candidates views. This news station is the next Fox news, I hope this reporter gets fired.
This video is the most pathetic attempt at propaganda I have ever seen.
1) Obama addressed these automotive issues in Grand Michigan, he was clearly too occupied in this video to answer reporters questions

This news stations is purposely EXTREMELY bias in its representation of the Candidates views, this station is the next Fox news.
i suppose it's only human nature to bring the other candidates into it...it's probably not entirely fair, but it's what happens. politics is a messy business.
Obama is oblivious to the values of many, real people. Furthermore sexist behavior in professional environments can land you in a courtroom, just as racist behavior can. Your defender is the EEOC. Ask them what they think about men calling professional women "sweetie", "honey", "babe" etc. and add to the mix refusing to take a woman seriously, i.e. not answer her question (which was a great question btw). He calls her later to say his "press team" will "make it up" to her? How? with campaign$??
I seriously think that Bush and Cheney have driven everyone mad. People are so stressed out by the current administration's lies and manipulations, and so suspicious of politicians, they're treating Barack Obama like he's wearing exploding drawers.
i was just at the doctors office the other day , and the nurse had to draw blood, i am a man and she was a woman, and more then several times, this female nurse called me this male patient "sweetie" so people need to stop tripping on this, women especially, because women call men this to and it means nothing bad at all. so this male was on the other end of sweetie and not me nor my wife who was there also was offended
Great call on this. Obama condescending to a female journalist: hey, what a surprise. Obama refusing to answer a tough question: surprise #2. Could this be the same "man" that refuses to debate Hillary, 1 on 1, no moderator? Creep.
I wouldn't be surprised if he is a player. Call her sweetie, and then apologize, therefore creating a situation where you can show what a "sensitive" guy you are. Most players are wolves in sheeps clothing.
Gee I wonder why a man who is running for the HIGHEST OFFICE IN THE COUNTRY would not realize that calling a professional woman "sweetie" puts him on the road to an EEOC violation! Some lawyer!
I totally agree with you beethovenqueen. im only 15 and i dont like anybody calling me sweetie, or pet, or anything like it, especially by people who don't know me. i understand why the lady was offended.
"Sweetie" is simply Southern colloquialism. He has a family with kids. Those who find this offensive probably never have had children before. Was the reporter being obnoxious? Possibly... He's simply diffusing the situation the same way most smart people would, by appeasing the reporter with a friendly and flattering remark.
Sweetie is not demeaning in anyway. It's much better than "baby" or "doll face".
He may be southern, and he may have a family with kids but he is hoping to be the next US president...he's going to have to learn how to answer questions directed at him and not try to avoid them, or 'diffuse the situation' as you put it. don't get me wrong, i like obama - he just needs to learn that sweet talk isnt going to get him out of every tricky situation.
So he gets to decide when and where people can ask him questions, and what ones they ask?
A person worthy of the role of US President should be able to answer questions without a script and not during a press conference. I dont believe he was trying to insult her, i just dont think he should have said it.
ummm worthy of a president...is a liar worthy of president She lied about her vist to a country and running past sniper fires....so having a lieing president is good? also she is making the name of the Democratic party look bad by still staying in the race....she has lost. Also Obama has shown he is worthy at least he isn't as dirty as hilary is or Mccain.....please get your facts straight. The stupid news reporter just took this too far she is stupid she trying to make something out of nothing
Funny how you think Obama is squeaky clean -what about his longtime minister and friend Louis Farrakhan? He has spoken out against just about everything including AMERICA - I cant agrue about Hilary - she shouldnt have lied about the sniper fire, but i cant agree that she is making the Democratic party look bad. And i dont see how a person who surrounds himself with such people as Farrakhan should be president. And by the way you're being condesending yourself by calling the reporter stupid.
Also funny how McCain affiliates himself with Jew hating preachers, and doesn't vote for MLK day simply because he "didn't know who Martin Luther King was". I know he's old but I doubt he ever lived in a cave.
Funny how the only responses to ANY criticism of Obama are: 1)to accuse racism and 2) immediately cite problems with Clinton or McCain. Why can't it just be an acknowledgement of something? No one said, McCain is perfect. Or Hillary is perfect. The comments are about what Obama DID do. Don't compare - respond.
Ok seriously do u think Hilary is hindering or helping the democrats? I belive she is hindering. As for republicans they tell you on thing and than do something else.... "they talk to please but act to SEIZE" And this "Sweetie" has taken this too far she just wants a stroy but seriously she over did it and i would fire her ass for this stupidness it makes the station look stupid and the report even more dumber because IT WAS FULLY SAID IN THE PRESS CONFRESS "NO QUESTIONS WILL BE TAKEN"
Why is it that a response can't address the question, but has to bring in the other candidate or candidates to compare.
We WERE Obama supporters at our house.
We're concerned that he talks without thinking. Whatever pressure he uses as an excuse now will be 100x worse in the GE and much, much worse with higher stakes if he's elected.
If you mean 'conference' so what? Why didn't he say, "We said no questions right now. Maybe later." Or "I'll get to that question in a second."
Or he views a professional reporter as a 10 year old.
You heard her question - that's what reporters do - they call out a question.
It was on point, it was a fair question, she didn't yell at him. You ever been to an event where the press acts like hyenas? It's what public people have to put up with - but sweetie is not OK for the simple fact that he wouldn't have treated a male reporter the same way.
We were supporters of BO from the very start and to tell you the truth I have no idea what his policy for job creation is. None.
But that's not the point. Are you seriously saying that on the campaign trail, all he has to do is say: That's in my policy statement and the reporters have no right to ask? Then why is there a huge press contingent that follows ON THE AIRCRAFT? Because a candidate wants/needs the publicity. He's not the president, yet, he still needs to let people know.
um..that means you didn't do enough research or don't know where to look. His plan to strengthen the economy (create jobs etc) is explicitly detailed on his website. Just like McCain's plan is on his own site.
Of course he wants publicity. He made a little mistake with the unprofessional sweetie comment and apologized for it. you want him to cancel his campaign for it?
I would be worried about bigger issues like his ties to Wright, special interest groups, meeting with religious leader
another point - these senators are busy people...they don't have time to answer every reporters' questions. Hilary did the same thing, except she just IGNORED the questions altogether.
It's true, though. This man isn't like the media is trying to paint him to be. I am absolutely appalled at how this man is being treated by the media. His wife is a very accomplished woman. If he had issues with women like that, he wouldn't be married to one. It's obviously a phrase he is used to saying, so it just slipped out. The man's got two daughters!
Add that to the fact that he apologized right afterwards, and I don't even understand why this is being overblown into a giant issue.
To help save jobs of autoworkers, the next president, who ever that may be, will have to initiate a kind of 'Affirmative Action' program requiring American companies to hire Americans in order to protect the domestic economy. Otherwise companies will continue to hire whomever they want 'on the cheap' to keep their profit margins high or maybe just to stay above water.
American companies are hiring americans. The economic crisis we have right now is completely unrelated to hiring practices. Please get your thoughts organized! Besides if companies hire people from other countries, there are stipuations that state that they should be paid the market rate, so they do not come cheap either!
You miss my point. American autoworkers r concerned that companies like GM, Ford, etc. will move manufacturing jobs overseas. This can have a major effect on local economies (e.g.Detroit). American companies operating overseas do not pay the same taxes, rates, etc. as companies based in US. This is why it is advantageous for them to outsource and how can the gov stop them? Operating overseas is not illegal or unethical, but these workers could loose their jobs.
Read "The World is Flat". It will clear a lot of things up for you. I have friends from India, China, Africa etc. We have had a number of talks about this book and similar issues concerning global economies. The issue is complex. I don't think anyone, including Obama has the perfect solution at the moment. But this is what the reporter wanted from him- the solution. But I think that will be forthcoming for some time.
This is by far the stupidest thing I have ever heard. Like michael45680 said, "At least he didn't call her a ho and splash her with a 40".
I think Obama was just being himself. I have had many people call me sweetie all the time. Just shows how they are running out of stuff to throw at Obama.
I wouldn't mind Obama calling me sweetie. *wink, wink*
I don't give a damn who you vote for, but please just don't vote for McCain. If America is going to make a "sharp left turn", I sure as hell don't want a republican getting the blame for it. I won't a democrat to lead the way into the liberal/socialist orgy that awaits us. Vote dem in 08. PEACE.
First! Damn. Get over it. He called someone "sweetie". I know we live in a PC world and it makes me sick. I think calling someone sweetie makes him cooler. I think that's his angle on this. At least he didn't call her a ho and splash her with a 40. OOPS! Now I'm a racist! Let's all celebrate with some fried chicken and watermelon, sweety! LOL! Still first though. ;) Vote Obama.
The answer turns out to be: I'm going to give the American Auto Industry a chance to redeem itself and become profitable again in spite of all ot the Republican assholes who would rather that you all just go bankrupt. But he really couldn't say that at that time could he? Well he sure as hell can say it now.

VOTE FOR MCNASTY! (Bush's third term!)

I don't see the problem here. It did not sound like he used "sweetie" in a condescending way.

KTJ777 3 years ago
KTJ777,
This was hardly a case of being polite.
1sm08 3 years ago
1sm08, i don't think a men would fall to pieces if he was called 'sport'. I think Obama is TERRIFIED of answering any tough questions. I totally agree with you about him being unprofessional. And you make a very good point about the 'feel good, press-the-flesh moment'. I just think there are bigger reasons to hate Obama. The first thing that comes to mind is BAIPA. I'm the last person to defend Obama and his complete evasion of hard questions. Sorry if I wasn't clear.
KTJ777 3 years ago
I support Senator Obama 100% in his run for President. However, that was very sexist. He would have never, ever called a male reporter "Sweetie". I am disappointed.

2) Sweetie is a non-offensive term

2) Obama addressed these automotive issues in Grand Michigan, he was clearly too occupied in this video to answer reporters questions

"Sweetie" is simply Southern colloquialism. He has a family with kids. Those who find this offensive probably never have had children before. Was the reporter being obnoxious? Possibly... He's simply diffusing the situation the same way most smart people would, by appeasing the reporter with a friendly and flattering remark.
Sweetie is not demeaning in anyway. It's much better than "baby" or "doll face".
fievel3782 3 years ago
He may be southern, and he may have a family with kids but he is hoping to be the next US president...he's going to have to learn how to answer questions directed at him and not try to avoid them, or 'diffuse the situation' as you put it. don't get me wrong, i like obama - he just needs to learn that sweet talk isnt going to get him out of every tricky situation.

Don't compare - respond.
liverpoolishgirl 3 years ago
Ok seriously do u think Hilary is hindering or helping the democrats? I belive she is hindering. As for republicans they tell you on thing and than do something else.... "they talk to please but act to SEIZE" And this "Sweetie" has taken this too far she just wants a stroy but seriously she over did it and i would fire her ass for this stupidness it makes the station look stupid and the report even more dumber because IT WAS FULLY SAID IN THE PRESS CONFRESS "NO QUESTIONS WILL BE TAKEN"
Afgmas 3 years ago
Why is it that a response can't address the question, but has to bring in the other candidate or candidates to compare.
We WERE Obama supporters at our house.
We're concerned that he talks without thinking. Whatever pressure he uses as an excuse now will be 100x worse in the GE and much, much worse with higher stakes if he's elected.
If you mean 'conference' so what? Why didn't he say, "We said no questions right now. Maybe later." Or "I'll get to that question in a second."

He's not southern, unless that counts south side of Chicago. He was raised in Kansas. Educated in the East.
And I guess he was either:
too busy
too polite to tell her to 'shut up'
just being nice
just being flirtatious
Poor, poor thing.
All everyone does is pick on him...
liverpoolishgirl 3 years ago
Now he's Southern?
Southside Chicago, right?
Or he views a professional reporter as a 10 year old.
You heard her question - that's what reporters do - they call out a question.
It was on point, it was a fair question, she didn't yell at him. You ever been to an event where the press acts like hyenas? It's what public people have to put up with - but sweetie is not OK for the simple fact that he wouldn't have treated a male reporter the same way.
liverpoolishgirl 3 years ago
It was a fair question that already has been addressed by his policy to fight for fair trade and support for job creation.
And you heard Obama call this reporter personally to apologize on the comment afterwards.
did I say he's Southern?
In our latest report, Senator Obama comes under fire for calling a male factory worker, "Buddy".
Rumor has it he's also been known to refer to strange men as "pal".
Is there any depth to which he will not sink?
fievel3782 3 years ago
We were supporters of BO from the very start and to tell you the truth I have no idea what his policy for job creation is. None.
But that's not the point. Are you seriously saying that on the campaign trail, all he has to do is say: That's in my policy statement and the reporters have no right to ask? Then why is there a huge press contingent that follows ON THE AIRCRAFT? Because a candidate wants/needs the publicity. He's not the president, yet, he still needs to let people know.
liverpoolishgirl 3 years ago
um..that means you didn't do enough research or don't know where to look. His plan to strengthen the economy (create jobs etc) is explicitly detailed on his website. Just like McCain's plan is on his own site.
Of course he wants publicity. He made a little mistake with the unprofessional sweetie comment and apologized for it. you want him to cancel his campaign for it?
I would be worried about bigger issues like his ties to Wright, special interest groups, meeting with religious leader
fievel3782 3 years ago
another point - these senators are busy people...they don't have time to answer every reporters' questions. Hilary did the same thing, except she just IGNORED the questions altogether.
fievel3782 3 years ago

It's true, though. This man isn't like the media is trying to paint him to be. I am absolutely appalled at how this man is being treated by the media. His wife is a very accomplished woman. If he had issues with women like that, he wouldn't be married to one. It's obviously a phrase he is used to saying, so it just slipped out. The man's got two daughters!
Add that to the fact that he apologized right afterwards, and I don't even understand why this is being overblown into a giant issue.
peppermintgarage 3 years ago
To help save jobs of autoworkers, the next president, who ever that may be, will have to initiate a kind of 'Affirmative Action' program requiring American companies to hire Americans in order to protect the domestic economy. Otherwise companies will continue to hire whomever they want 'on the cheap' to keep their profit margins high or maybe just to stay above water.
jayleeds2006 3 years ago
American companies are hiring americans. The economic crisis we have right now is completely unrelated to hiring practices. Please get your thoughts organized! Besides if companies hire people from other countries, there are stipuations that state that they should be paid the market rate, so they do not come cheap either!
bala3518 3 years ago
You miss my point. American autoworkers r concerned that companies like GM, Ford, etc. will move manufacturing jobs overseas. This can have a major effect on local economies (e.g.Detroit). American companies operating overseas do not pay the same taxes, rates, etc. as companies based in US. This is why it is advantageous for them to outsource and how can the gov stop them? Operating overseas is not illegal or unethical, but these workers could loose their jobs.
jayleeds2006 3 years ago
Read "The World is Flat". It will clear a lot of things up for you. I have friends from India, China, Africa etc. We have had a number of talks about this book and similar issues concerning global economies. The issue is complex. I don't think anyone, including Obama has the perfect solution at the moment. But this is what the reporter wanted from him- the solution. But I think that will be forthcoming for some time.
