@Jbay2608 She's closest related to coastal, but Jaguar blood lines tend to be hard or impossible to really verify. She's doing great, though sadly, not interested in breeding this winter. She just wants to eat. Thank you for the comments.
I don't remember what the Jungles were going for. I've seen them vary from $200 to $500 and even more if you are looking for something really special. There are plenty of variations so do your research. BHB is great, talk to them and they won't steer you wrong.
@TheCreepyboy13 The price will depend on the quality of the color and the how clean the pattern is, not to mention demand. $500 to $700 is a fairly reasonable price for a jaguar.
Can not put a price on the safety of your reptiles , In my ten years I've never seen a ceramic bulb break into pieces , the bulb and socket has a protective "cage" around it with small holes to let out the heat and the snake carn't burn itself. Don't need UV I just like them.
@jarrod300zx Glad to hear about the protective "cage", that takes bulb burns out of the equation. You should take a look at heat panels. They take up less cage space... but spend the time to do lots of research, they aren't all created equal.
Not a good setup for a carpet python, glass tanks are not snake enclosures. And what's with the heatlamps some ppl use. Seriously get a proper enclosure that just has a sliding glass front, one with an inbuilt globe socket and get yourself a ceramic heat globe that dosn't give off light and put it on a "proper" thermostat that can have different day and night temp settings, night setting dropping a few dagreese. with that a full spectrum UV light on a day/night cycle.
um im getting a carpet python and when i was at the shops buying the encloser and the person said i could just leave a red one on all day and night, can i?
Leaving the light on all day and night isn't so much the issue, it's temperature control that should be the issue. SInce most people's homes get warmer during the day, having an unattended light on could create excessiive heat. I recommend a UTH (Under tank heater) and a thermostat to control primary heat. I used the light to offset nighttime cooler temps.
@MrPhilippguydude I would call that a good sign, she may be getting more comfortable with her environment. Eventually she will see it as her secure home. And that is really no different than my girl, she is most active at night, she just no longer bothers with a hide.
@MrPhilippguydude I've seen many debates about snakes having issues when being in too large a cage. The counter point is that in the wild, they have a MUCH MUCH larger cage, lol It's hard to say which opinion is more appropriate.
awesome!!! i have a blood python, but i so want a carpet, they are so so pretty. do you breed them? oh and i used to live in the Chi town a few years ago, but the winter sux since the snow is deep than i am tall....-_- i was scared id get lost in a snow drift lol
I would consider them to be medium skill level snakes. They can be nippy as babies and some of the breeds like the coastal can grow to over 10 feet in length.
im getting a irian jaya carpet which get to around 5ft read a lot on the, great for first timers as long as, like you said, you dont mind being bittin, but being babies it wouldnt hurt if they did.
yes they can as long as you know what you are doing. a big snake is not a toy so really think about a big snake can be a danger to small animals & kid so make sure you lock the cage right.
Spend some time researching the different types, based on look and potential size for what you feel comfortable. If you are lucky, you have a local breeder. If not, keep searching for them and pictures of what they have.
Even on a simple breed, the differences can be big among the breeders.
i have a baby IJ and i have a question. how active are theywhen there young??. the thing is im used to royals. so when i got her i didnt know if they were really active snakes or if she is stressed. ive had her for about a month now and shes about 4months old if that helps.
From what I've seen, they are relatively active. The key difference between BPs & Carpets is that Carpets are much more curious and don't mind spending time in the open. BPs (Royals) tend to have a rap for being very private and not coming out if people are around. Enjoy your IJ, they are great animals.
It would depend on the type of Carpet Python. Check out my Room Update video, it shows the size and type of enclosure I moved my Carpet to. Sadly, she may outgrow that environment.
Some lineages like the Irian Jaya CP rarely get above 4-5 feet, where Coastals can get over 12 feet.
Unknown - it was picked up during an out of control spending spree in a pet store, back in the early days of the rescue of and setting up for my Ball Python.
great job on the vid, Brian... Inara looks like one awesome snake.. nice to see when people take good care of their animals.. keep up the good work.. you're a credit to the Boatips forum!
It's amazing how responsive snakes can be if they are worked with properly and consistantly. People so easily accept dog's temperments due to human interaction (positive and negative), yet reptiles don't get the same respect.
Thats so true, I love reptiles though (all animals actually, and your 100% right about carpets not really being biters, I've never been bitten by my jcp

jarrod300zx 9 months ago
@jarrod300zx I would agree on a few points
Almost all Carpet pythons would out grow this type of enclosure quickly.
Better thermostats are better, more features, safer easier, but cost more money.
I am not a fan of VIVs with open internal socket bulbs. Snakes climb and bulbs (ceramic included) burn and break
You do not need full specture UV light for carpet pythons.

how can they bite D=
Rusty2540 1 year ago

They most definitely have teetch, many little hooked teeth. It helps them hold the prey.

Hey, mines been doing this thing where it sits in its hide all day and all night.. It this normal or do i need to fix something
MrPhilippguydude 1 year ago
@MrPhilippguydude I'm guessing you have a young carpet python in a glass enclosure. Top items to worry about
1 - his temps. Have a temperture gradient from 90 to 70, it's tough to get a range in these tanks though
2 - keep reasonable humidity
3 - offer multiple hides (at least one near the hot spot and one near the cold)
4 - keep tank in a low traffic part of your house. Everything scares baby snakes.
1MorePython 1 year ago
@1MorePython
Ive got her in a Melamine enclosure and the cold end is 25 hot end 32 with a basking rock...
There are 3 hides, One hanging from the hot end, One on the cold end and one hidden among the greenery.
She seems to be coming out a lot more at night now, I dont know what i did but Shes coming out.

Carpet Pythons can vary greatly in price, depending on type and appearance.
I've seen prices as low as $100 and as high as a few thousand dollars.
