  • It almost looks like one of those computer generated models

  • good job. I must have been tricky to force his cat shoulders into a more human position so that it sits right in the excercise

  • Watching this, I'm imagining George Sanders(the original Shere Khan) as Scar.

  • hemm i have a question on why your doing the rotation exercise on these characters?

  • Scar is amused too.

  • how come all of your animations say "meow" at the end?

  • @sweetbug123 its what the assignment required, you pick a character, animate their head rotating and then do an expression change and lipsync to the meow clip

  • @kmcc93 oh ok lol :D

  • Meow.

  • It's admirable that you're doing pencil tests. It's time-consuming, and difficult, but you show a lot of dedication, and that's admirable. One thing, however. Your three-quarter view is off. His face needs to be rotated further from the camera. In addition, right after the side view... the side of his face and chin does not match up with the angle of rotation indicated in his torso.

  • you spin me right round right round lol

  • Amazing! You are remarkable!

  • "miau" :))

  • Wow! Good work! 8O

  • Wow, that's amazing. I mean- just wow. :O

  • i would like to learn animating on my own (if possible) and i was wondering if you drew the head rotation after a clay model. could you give me some good lins where i may learn how to animate? thanks. great work, btw.

  • I did not use a model, just drew Scar from reference over and over to figure out how he is put together. After that I began working out front, side and back views. And where you should study depends on what kind of animation you want to do.

  • @naly202

    why not study animation?

After all - if that is something you like, it'd be easy and fast to learn (no need to search for amotivation). You can do it in your spare time

  • you had better be joking

  • @kmcc93

damn.. stop ruining my plans to give bad advices to people!

  • @kmcc93 Animation is something you can learn to do as a hobby, not a joke. I know plenty of film makers who do it on the side for fun.

  • @Optics233 Yeeeeah, but to be a GOOD animator? That takes proper study. :P

  • @Zir0nix No, not really. Just practice. No such thing as "proper" in art.

  • @kmcc93 hmm why not?

  • This is really good :D I'm doing pencil tests in class and I pretty much suck at it XD Now that I see this, I'm going to try much more :)

  • Amazing stuff :)!!!

  • when you said oxymoron I don't what it means.

  • you asked if i animated anime. an oxymoron is when you have a phrase like that where the words contradict each other, like 'jumbo shrimp' or 'Deafening silence.' Anime doesn't really have much actual animation, so your question had an oxymoron.

  • do you animate anime?

  • thats an oxymoron. The overwhelming majority of anime involves little to no animation, just held cells with lip sync pasted on top, or very limited animation. The only thing that I've seen anime do well is effects animation, but the majority of that is cycles that get reused over and over.

  • I was only asking a question.

  • and....i answered it, whats the issue?

  • I think that's a very narrow minded view. You're completely excluding the beautiful work done by miyazaki and plenty of other studios that never have their stuff seen here in the states. You're also ignoring the way that western television animation has begun to cut corners.

  • I said that the overwhelming majority of anime is as I stated before, not all anime. Miyazaki is an exception. But his work is the minority, and every one of his films have made it to American theatres. I never attempted to defend flash animated television shows, but I will, as they are driven more by budgets and deadlines than quality.

  • And take a look at the feature film Paprika. As a feature, it had a much higher budget, yet there is nothing unique about the animation in that film. They even used live action footage instead of actual animation in some scenes, and photographs in place of designing and painting them. For me that ruined a story that I thought had potential. Any others you think I should check out?

  • @kmcc93 your work is brilliant, keep it up nd follow your heart. hope you start a new year with more inspiration.

  • @kmcc93

Hi, a wapanese-hater / yet anime lover here and student animator here.

Yes indeed, the majority of anime are despicable. But you need to understand that the emphasis of anime is the story. A lot of fans call quality anime those who are serious (for example Ghost in the Shell, Cowboy Bebop, Evangelion, ...) and... (continuation)

  • @kmcc93

...I really despise them for that. It's true, they ARE quality anime, but it just coincidence that they're serious AND well-animated. But that's another subject.

You should check out Studio 4°C stuff.

  • That was freaking awesome!

  • Wow, that's really great. Are you working as a professional animator?

  • LMAO! X)

  • Meow! Hahaha!

  • That Was Really Good! 5 Stars!

  • what software do you use?

  • It's all hand drawn on paper, but then shot under a webcam with digicel flipbook

  • OMG !! is nice! can u give me a tip to avoid the wobble of the lines? (every time i try to do an animation whit a character, the animation lines "dance" and i don't know how to avoid it =( (sorry for my english..xD)

  • Learn to flip and roll your drawings so you can see the movement. If you just trace, your lines will boil.

  • HAHA MEOW!

  • Haha meow? :D

  • MEOW! lol COOL

  • WOW! so good!!

  • Meow?! O.o That gave me a heart attack! I had it turned up to full volume!

  • There are usually twenty-four drawings for every second. This video is twelve seconds long, so it just took approximately one hundred and forty-four drawings.

That being said however, the first 6 second was a loop of 2. So approxamentally 120.

  • I love the drawing, but I take it your not the original animator?

  • I'm studyinf animation - the going rate now for animating is 25 frames per second that and it's easier to divide frames in 5ths of a second...XD

  • You need to study harder if you think that 25 fps is the "going rate." Hand drawn is always done at 24, and 3D is done at either 24 or 29.95, or the NTSC standard. The only place you would use 25 would be in the PAL region, simply due to the different power current.

And why would it be easier to divide a second into 5ths? Is the math too difficult for 8ths? or 4ths? Have fun hooking up a walk cycle when you plan out on 5ths

  • Sorry, I wasn't meant to offend, I am studying an animation course at the 10th best university in the country, and we're being taught 25 frames per second, though the old system is apparently 24.

I wasn't meant to seem to make a snarky comment either =/ it was just an observation.

  • It looks great, I am studyin traditional myself this has inspired me thank you.

  • SICK!!!!!

  • a small correction, the number of drawings vary depending on if you shoot in "ones" or "two's"

  • "Meow!"

    XD

  • Well at 24 frames per second and it's 12 seconds, its 288 frames.

But as for actual drawings, since its on twos and the rotation cycles 3 times, and there are a couple of holds, the amount of drawings was probably about 120-140.

I still have them but I don't feel like counting.

  • O_O....it took that many?! how do you do that?!

  • It involves lots of drawing.

  • lots and lots and lots of drwing?like 300000000000 drawings to make one scene?

  • There are usually twenty-four drawings for every second. This video is twelve seconds long, so it just took approximately one hundred and forty-four drawings.

  • O_O......my gosh you must have been really patient when doing this.

  • Whoops, I mean two hundred and eighty-eight. Calculators are never wrong.

Anyways, I didn't make this. kmcc93 did. I just happen to also be studying to become an animator.

  • How many frames did this take?

  • Meow!

    xDDD

  • hum. This is awesome! I wounder if this is a test from Andreas

  • lol! I love it! Must have been really hard to make! Looks hard! even my animations are not as good as yours! =D But i am just a beginner. I started about a month ago lol. check them out sometime!

  • to get this good it takes years

  • Amazing! Im not very much of Lion King fan, but that was kool.

  • it's great, like a 3d model.

  • that's why its a 'test'

  • dood its so hard to animate a head roataing with pencil and make it look that aline and in porportion

  • mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm cool.

  • meow! i'm laughin so hard i almost dropped my pc!

  • VERY GOOOD !

    Great job

    ;D
