Amazing. He's been saying the same thing and voting the same way for SO long now for 40 years with NO flip flopping. TOTAL consistency. And he was doing this LONG before it was "hip" when he and the libertarians were like a lone voice in the wilderness.
Yes amazing. This video is from 21 years ago, but it's haunting how the same he is then compared to now. Oh yes, today his hair has gone gray and receded. He now has more wrinkles and more rasp in his voice. But the message: Exactly the SAME

I respectfully disagree. Ron believes that corporations can do no wrong and government is full of graft. Well, considering the recent embarrassments with private enterprise how can that be true? The same flawed human beings that run government also run private enterprise. They are equally as greedy and incompetent if they are not managed well. Now that is the truth whether we like it or not. I agree with his foreign policy however, his economic theories only work in a perfect world.
Yes indeed "same flawed human beings that run government also run private enterprise" but the difference is WHO PAYS THE PRICE for mistakes! If a private entrepreneur makes a mistake because of incompetence or greed then he and all the people who WILLINGLY trusted him by WILLINGLY giving him a credit or WILLINGLY buying his company's stocks pay the price. In case you stop trusting the entrepreneur you can always leave by selling the stocks or deny him a new loan etc...
In case of government running businesses we ALL pay the price of its incompetence regardless if we agree on its policy or not because we are FORCED to obey the government. You cannot (easily) leave your country like you can leave a company. And even if you could why would you? Why should I leave my country if the government is ruining my country by INTERFERING into businesses and economy? The government should leave and keep put of the businesses and our lives!
Solution is -> everyone should pay the price for his OWN mistakes. Governments should be SMALL and keep out of our lives/businesses and stop interfering into economy. The only thing that governments should do is to protect our LIBERTIES (from internal and external threats) and enforce the LAW and CONSTITUTION!
The whole point is...if the corporations are doing it wrong they get cleaned out of the system. The only way they stay on (what they are doing now) is if they have the government who has coercive force (military/police) backing them up.
@fringefries well i think if you add corruption to government, it becomes a super powerful private corporation. At least with private corporation wont spend tax dollars irrationally.
monolithic stereotypes that embarrass and way us down. I am a supporter of the 2nd ammendment and believe we have already won that argument with the people and the supreme court. However we must evolve beyond the contemporary memes that have turned off so many would be supporters of our cause. All I'm asking for is to consider that people want more than the same old arguments that we have been throwing out and losing with. Priciples are one thing, but if our philosophy is flawed? ...change it.
I like Mr. Ron Paul I just wish he was more philosophically balanced. There is an argument to be made for a more nuanced approach to his theories. If he could overcome generalzations about the incompetence of government and realize that private entities are just as flawed do to human error than he might formulate a theory that created a system of checks and balances for both. I am a very liberal libertarian in the sense that I am open to all possibilities and have evolved past the... continued
Imagine that!! Ron Paul saying the same thing now, as he was saying then. Does any of the other candidates have that much intelligence, integrity or a more value that will last a lifetime. Better yet, are any of the other candidates really have the "gonnads" to really point out the true problems of this country?

I agree he has integrity, but consider this, his trust of the free market to do the right thing is very naive. That's why the economy is going in the crapper right now because of his support of de-regulation. It's nice to think that corporations will be honest and competent, but it's just not the case. They have to be monitored and have restrictions placed on them or they'll screw up and greed will set in. Other than that Ron Paul is clearly better qualified on matters constitutional.
He's not saying that there shouldn't be regulations. The problem has become, under this administration, the laws that are still on the books aren't being enforced. When they deregulated, they didn't do away with the laws. Just the police.
You're saying they ignored the laws? Forgive me I'm not being sarcastic I just need more information. Can you explain this in some detail please? I am a man of reason and I'm interested in your opinion since you seem to be a rare thinker? That's kind of out of place these day with so many sheep around ya know?
More information? That's going to be determined during the hearings and investigations that are about to start. The final outcome, if it's done legally will have some indictments and maybe even some convictions. I'm not a scholar on the laws of wall street, the banking industry, or even the housing market for that matter. But, obviously laws were broken. Because the system, even with the deregulations, still has provisions in place to keep one company or person from committing criminalities.
I understand your argument, but with sincere respect aren't you over simplifying a bit? I mean granted it took the republicans and democrats to get us into this mess, but the facts are clear de-regulation in some cases is harmful and incompetence, greed aren't just the domain of the big bad federal government. It can happen to any institution government or private entities,if too much trust and power are given to them. After all my friend and fellow Libertarian we are all human all too human.
Another point if I may my good fellow if it's not an imposition. We must chose our battles wisely. Government must be called to account by private accounting firms that will monitor excess. Just as government will keep in check the corporations. There is no perfect system, but you and I can make it better if we don't allow cynicism to cloud our judgement. Take into consideration bernie madoff. That's an example of human greed and stupidity not government. And then there's GM.
I like that big old smile that guy in the white shirt has
