  • AMEN SHREDMASTER! I was get on here to say the same thing! These tapes exist so make a disc! I know I pay whatever for it! I was there and what a great day of music! ELP remarkable, Deep Purple really good (sorry, not a big Purple fan) but Sabbath killed. Totally awesome!!!

  • Freedom

  • only california jam performance ive seen in full is the common deep purple dvd but they kicked ass at this concert blackmore blew up the guitar and amps its a shame sabbath,s entire performance is not availible on dvd whoever has the original film should fucking release it on dvd so we can buy it i cant belive that they dont want the money to be made

  • I have seen better video.

  • The guitar sounds MORBID. I love it.

  • I need this on dvd. or even vhs. whichever...

  • yesterday i started listening to black sabbath, i am 22 and the year is 2011, omg. i love them too much and where the hell have i been all this time

  • what a video! taped with a shoes box...

  • WOAH WOAH WOAH !!!! TONY WHATS WITH THE HAIR..

  • @drummermizike and ive always wondered what happened to his moustache like uhh why did he shave it off

  • the best group

    for ever....

  • Iommi, the master of monster riffs.\m/(-_-)\m/

  • o tempo passa e os mestres do heavy metal continuam caminhando para a eternidade, deixando o heavy metal escrito para sempre na historia.

  • Iommi with no 'tache? Looks well strange, like somebody else. Ozzy's a bit flat in places, but we'll ler him off.

  • sabbath BLOODY SABBATH!! yeah!!!!

  • the world, wachted iommi...moustacheless

  • @THEVINMAN21. That's cool! I wish i could've been there. Today's big concerts just don't have the same variety, open-mindedness, and especially, social significance. These days it seems to be more about the $ than anything else. I miss the old days. :-)

  • What a theme song. God bless OZZY!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I just love Iommi's style how he plays a slow and emotional solo in the middle of the song and then blasts it all out in the fast solo at the end of the song (NIB, Snowblind etc.)

  • metal heavy metal ozzy osbourne witth black sabbath stoned its awesome metal yea!!!!!!!!

  • I have this ideo also, but in much better quality. I did the broadcast sound at the Jam. It's bigger than rock 'n roll!

  • this was an AWESOME concert!!! x0D

  • I like the original BS myself...

  • there has to be a better video of this somewhere....

    ?! So ggod....

  • Does Ozzy kiss Tony in 1:55?? haha that funny I always figured Ozzy was so crazy he would do anything that came to mind.....

  • @bianca2452 no, he makes a face to Ozzy. ther is a clear colored version of this video, just type black sabbath california jam 1974, and there is killing yourself to live.

  • Does Ozzy Kiss Tony in 1:55 HAHA thats awesome!

  • You'd think Cal Jam 1 would be in BluRay by now, dammit. I can't get by on B and W any more. HD TV and old archives cry out for remastering

  • the performers who have worshiped the devil and put satanic anti christ messages and symbols in their songs and on their records especially the metal or rock symbol they use it was origionally called the horned hand it is still seen or used by satanists and in the satainic bible

theres many articles on how hard rock is linked to satanism check it out

i used to be into all this hard rock and metal but after looking this stuff up you its some scary stuff

    may jesus save us all

  • @pteli11 It's mostly to do with the sonic nature of the music, the lyrically and singing approach. The horned hand is to ward off evil spells, as DIO tells the origin of it

  • @pteli11--- so what?

  • @pteli11 My opion only! Have you ever met these invisible beings called God, Jesus and the Devil??? I haven't and no one on this planet has cause they don't exist. Go to Google videos and watch Ziegiest , then go further and you find the truth.

  • @Dannymusic1999 God exists my friend!

  • @pteli11 :-D Are you serious ?

  • @pteli11 the "devil horns" in sign language actually means "i love you".

  • @cromlek Umm, no...what Gene Simmons does, horns with the THUMB out, means "I love you" in sign language. Dio's "devil" sign dates back from ancient times and is thought ward off the evil eye.

  • @pteli11 Bull!! Just jealous because Black Sabbath, and Led Zeppelin, and other metal bands from the 70s are talented. You Christians (no offense to the "Normal" Christians that don't exaggerate) think everything that is not about Jesus, or God, is evil. You Christians never say anything about today's hardcore rap that talks about raping and killing. I am just angry now.

  • @robertruizjr100 you're fucking retarded if you think people (christians included) don't speak out about rap.

  • @pteli11 Black Sabbath is the only band I know of whose lyrics spoke to the fact that, if you sin, you go to hell.

  • @pteli11 the "Horned Hand of Horus" was originally an ancient Egyptian charm against evil spirits, to drive them away. Any Satanist using it is performing a charm against what he worships. Frankly, its just a way of holding your fingers, it does no good or evil.

  • @pteli11

this band here, is not satanic in any way. ozzy has his own beliefs and they are not satanic in any way. even if it was, who cares. its music, its interpretable so it doesn't even matter. go look at rap, it talks of killing people every three seconds, rape, drugs and a lot worse things. the devil horns also mean "i love you in sign language". also to ward off evil spirits. satanism is a religion followed by fools yes, and i am not satanic in any way but WHO CARES

  • everibody speak s of Woodstock but even that is a epic concert!!!!!!!!!

  • hahaha oh ozzy, in black and white the back of your purple tassled golden shirt looks like charlie browns shirt.

  • "Killing Yourself to Live" is the theme for the middle class of New Jersey.

  • yeah right thanks

  • WAT A CLASSIC! Love OZZY

  • One of my Top 5 Sabbath songs... ain't it the truth. KILLING YOURSERLF TO LIVE

  • never give your trust away

  • this is the most fucked up video I've seen..but it still sounds great!

  • I love how the crowd went nuts when Ozzy said "Smoke it; get high".

  • That must have been a truly glorious rock show .... looked like hundreds of thousands of fans in those hills grooving to Black Sabbath at their best

  • what a epic song!

  • Ozzy and Black Sabbath had some Deep songs v_v

  • Toni Iommi seems enlightened, nowhere near the "dark" person he looked like in 1970..footage.

  • CATERVA!

  • Romans,

Lighten up, listen to some Perry Como or something.

  • Nice

  • How come the quality of this recording suck but Deep purple at the same show is of good quality?

  • Cause this faggot recorded this off his tv.

  • Ehm! A lot bands perform at Rainbow and not all of them get cameras. I mean Led Zeppelin already went to Rainbow, David Bowie... They didn't got filmed... Be proud we have this rare footage. And by looking at this, it just seems that these tapes were badly damaged and turned out the way we see them as now.

Video was hard to get and protect for various reasons at the time, while audio was easy. For the 70s...

  • This is not from the rainbow it´s from california jam. Sabbaths whole gig was filmed and i found this in exellent quality. california jam fanclub has the entire show and they are beggining to upload it on youtube so search for this vid posted by californiajamfanclub. Check my page and you find it.

  • @aducimeH Deep Purple filmed it all and put it out on dvd. The only clip that I have seen before this from Sabbath at this show was Children Of The Grave. If they have this stuff in their "archives", they should put it out on dvd for the fans.

  • Also too most importantly To me its about God and Dont forget who the prince of this world is (its not God)

  • Tony looks a little bit like George Harrison without the 'stache.

  • This has GOT to be Ozzy at his best ever vocally. He's on key, and not straining hardly at all. Only wish he could do this nowadays.

  • @shytownmofo On key? I don't think so. Not even close in parts! I have a boot leg given to me where he sounds awesome. Much better than here. The band sounds awesome!

  • looks like a dharma orientation flim , sabbath opening for geronimo jackson

  • was this vid shot on the moon or somewhere in outer space?

it looks & sounds like an early nasa transmission!

  • it was probably on another planet...at least the band probably was a lot in those days

  • ''Just take a look around you what do you see

    Pain, suffering, and misery

It's not the way that the world was planned

    It's a pity you don't understand

Killing yourself to live'' - Geezers more truthful lyrics!! - thats what I love i use 2 get high 2 sabb all the time & now im a christian & I see so much more clearly even in their lyrics

ozzy @ 2:36 - open your eyes & see the lies oh yeah!!!!!!

  • Love ur comment brother.

  • Wtf a born again christian, dosnt really make sense to join an institution of lies, after seeing the truth sounds more like giving in.

  • @Twotimesdk

institution of lies? Tell me what lies? We're all killing ourselves 2 live but we can have life through Christ. Please go 2 my page & just check out the WDJD vid in my favorites 2 make more sense.

  • @Romans10Thirteen

I always referred that killing yourself to live. Means your eating animals and animals made humans. So they are you and you are killing yourself basically. Tragic for the ones that do.

  • @krrrruptidsoless

hmm not tryin to dis you dude but...

killing yourself to live to me is workin, takin care of family, friends and getting through to this generation. Youve got children raising children & children killing children. Like what ozzy says: ''Just take a look around you what do you see

    Pain, suffering, and misery

It's not the way that the world was planned"

  • @Romans10Thirteen AND IT"S A PITY YOU DON"T UNDERSTAND!!!!!!!!

this song blew my mind away when i was about 22... realizing the huge social comment that ozzy was making here. talking about people working so hard that they are actually dying. killing themselves to live - something he probably saw alot of in birmingham.

this became my favourite sabbath album... Sabbath Bloody Sabbath

  • Does anyone out there know if this set has been released in its entirety? I wish I could get all the groups who were at this show on DVD. I mean, would you ever see a show nowadays that would feature a lineup as diverse as Black Sabbath, Deep Purple; Black Oak Arkansas; Emerson, Lake, and Palmer; The Eagles; Earth, Wind, and Fire; Seals and Crofts; and Rare Earth? I doubt it!

  • /user/windhoek35#g/u

this dudes got a bunch of them

  • @onegnarlyguitar I remember going to this show, Ontario motor speedway,Ontario California. Still have a cardboard poster from the show!!!

    Nothing like it nowadays!!

  • @THEVINMAN21 Right concerts are very expensive now! Real cheap quality tshirts over $30 bucks!

  • @onegnarlyguitar was that the lineup? holy jeez that would even keep my interest nowadays

  • @onegnarlyguitar I heard that there IS a bootleg floating around of Sabbath's performance at the Cal Jam '74.

  • that video was old & hard 2 see.......it was pure&rich.....god.... thanks 4 having it on youtube.. sabbath rocks!!!!!!! ozzy i take my hat off to you, when i hear or see you sing!!!!!!!

  • Both of those albums are in my closet along with 5,000 others from this time. I was part of the faithful.

  • this concert was originally broadcast from the moon in january of 1971.

the poor video & sound quality is due to cosmic disruption of the radio transmission signal.

  • just saw Children of the Grave from the same show and it was fine...in color and everything. i think this tape got eaten.

  • The quality is shit.

Otherwise, I love the low-quality songs!

  • I love Dio, but there's nothing like the 4 original members of Black Sabbath. I mean they bring an entirely different energy and presence to the stage. I do like Heaven and Hell though

  • @iagostar Yeah i seen Heaven and Hell in 07 with Megadeth, both were fucking epic. Great Show. Dios prescence is a little more evil. HAHA. \m/\m/

  • Comment removed

  • Of course. Iommi played some very tasty solos on that album. Geezer's bass fills are nice, too. I know it was remastered to bring out more bass frequencies.

  • It's an absolutely fabulous album.

I was 10 years old at the time of it's release.

It was actually the album that introduced me to Black Sabbath

Never Say Die remains in my top 10 favorite of all time.

    It's brilliant

  • yes, sadly it is a very underrated album. Favorite song is Junior's Eyes

  • I love it too, you have to listen to it for a while for it to grow on you....

  • Johnny Blades..... oh yeah. We remember. Never saaaaaaay diieeeeeee.

  • That is one of the best rock albums of all time.

  • i love johnny blade off that album

  • Never Say Die gets canned a lot, I dig it, Also it's predecessor Technical Ecstasy, Two great albums showcasing Sabbath moving away from their darker sound!

  • Dirty Women!!

  • Hell yes, killa solo on that track!

  • @willibear7 yeah man i love that album thought it was better then most including sabbath make it out to be

  • @willibear7 i know the language you speak my friend...johnny blade was probably the best track on there after title track

  • @willibear7 I've always enjoyed listening to "Johnny Blade" from that particular album!

  • @willibear7 Johnny Blade!

  • @willibear7

That album is a classic. They were at the end of their run but they still produced a

    masterpiece. Johhny Blade...Over to You...classic

  • @willibear7 yeah johnny blade kicks ass

  • @willibear7 Yes. heard of it and have it on vinyl. Back in the 80s there used to be a tv program called "In Concert". Introduced by Annie Knightingale from Radio 1. One program was of Sabbath touring with this album. This was the first time i'd ever seen them live. I have to say it was much better than listening to them on Black Sabbath Live at Last. I used to have Never Say Die on one side of a cassette tape and Technical Ecstacy on the other. They'd be in the car and would just keep playing!

  • @willibear7 I guess my fave would be Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. I often play it on headphones to go to sleep to. Add the whole album to or three times or once and then add Sabbath Bloody Sabbath and Killing Yourself To Live about ten times each. SWEEEEET! Reckon Born Again is up there too. Gillan can really scream! Shame he didn't make some more albums with them. Dio was ok, may he rest in peace, but i preferred Gillan. Not a big fan of Deep Purple but love Perfect Strangers. Comeback no.17???

  • This was probably a bootleg when this person bought it. And we all know the quality of some boots. Real music lovers can handle watching a boot. Dio's Grandmother, who is Italian, did the "sign" when Ronnie was a boy. He was the first metal guy that did it. Dio was in ELF before Black Sabbath. He may have been doing it back then.

  • If she did the sign (it means cheated in Italy and other southern countries). It must be the biggest misunderstandign in music history then, lol

  • 2:56 . .so it was OZZY not Dio who invented the devil sign (actually its upside down spiderman shootin' his web)

  • Neither of them invented it.... Its an italian hand gesture to ward of the devil called the corna.

  • yeah actually Romany/Gypsy . . just thought it kinda funny cuz Dio takes credit for it but right there was Ozzy in black n white. . I like my spiderman explanation better, though. .

  • cool song, wish i was there to enjoy it

  • Sure, we'd all love to see this in better quality but that's not really important. What matters is that some footage from this legendary Sabbath show has survived and will be around for evermore.

The band were playing at their absolute peak in 1974. Ozzy sings his heart out here.

  • Amen Haggisman!

  • that's a great way to put it...

  • wow, SPOT Freakin on . a classic performance from musicians and a singer who care about their craft

  • I was there it was awesome, along w/ deep purple , eagles , black oak arkansa, rare earth, elp, seals and croftsand....

  • I was at both cal jams. I was new to so cal back in 73, went to the first concert, it was a mind blowing experience.

  • For those who say Ozzy is not a good singer.

  • This song says it all about our society.

  • I know a dude that was ACTUALLY at this concert.

  • all-time classic

  • Iommi looks like Scarface withouth his moustache.

  • is there a good quality of this show available anywhere? im willing to sell my house to get it!

  • ees this sheet music or good music? I don't know it could be crapo. . . sory my english, it not very good. Thank you.

  • Such a shame this isn't better quality, still thanks for putting this up :)

  • very young!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i wish i would've been alive in those days and was able to go to this show.......deep purple, black sabbath, and e.l.p. on the same bill.........FUCKIN AMAZING!!!!

  • My b & w version of this is much better quality. I did the sound for California Jam. It's bigger than rock and roll.

  • iommis is scary without his stache

  • ha ha ha ,,. Tonni without mustache looked like Neil Diamond.lool

  • awesome song :D

  • i have the color version

  • I want to reach out and touch the sky

I want to touch the sun

But I don't need to fly

    I'm gonna climb up

    Every mountain of the moon

And find the dish that ran

    Away with the spoon

  • I wish I was there

  • Wish You Were Here

  • fucking iommi's guitar sound is fucking fantatstic..even in this terrible quality !!

  • We're lucky there is ANY footage from this show of ANY band that played that day.....it was intended for live broadcast, so they didn't plan on keeping the vid footage......what survives today was gonna end up in the trash but thankfully didn't

  • Heavenly! It doesn't get much better than this, despite the poor tecnical quality. But what a masterpiece of a song!

I know there's a whole film of this happening including at least Deep Purple. It really should exist some more Black Sabbath with better quality from this evening.

But thank god Toni grew his mustasch back!

  • old

  • woah tony without facial hair

  • es material solo para coleccionistas como yo , muchas gracias...

  • hi

    jui bye go guy

  • This show just how good Ozzy was back in the day.

  • I shit my pants

    Prepare for the Coming.

    ROFL

  • Gracias por el material.

  • Thanks. As Usual He's Great!

  • I was there!!!!!

  • no you weren't. you suck.

  • yes i was, jealousy, tisk, tisk.

  • the authenticity is cool and everything, but i listen to them for their music, and i cant really hear it like this : /

  • I've been looking for this concert on tape or dvd for ages!Where did you find it???

  • Prepare for the Coming.

    WTF?

  • I think ozzy is a really smart person, his mind has just faded over years of prescription drugs and alcohol.

He still probably has deep, coherent thoughts, but its just hard for him to put it into words at this point.

  • right...prescription drugs, like prescribtion cocaine, prescription heroine, prescription weed

well i partially agree, i do think ozzy is intelligent, but has brain damage and comes across as brain dead because its hard for him to speak coherently

  • ya exaclty, Ozzy is so smart everyone and everything tries to be like him... no one can say in a middle of a slow song something like " I FUCKING LOVE GUYS (fans)" and just know he means it, plus I wouldn't of skip my final exam and run away from home back in highschool unless it was going to c a ozzy concert. NO front man has created as many guitar gods as Ozzy, The only reason Zakk Wylde is still playing for Ozzy is cuz he can't find anyone good enought

  • My exact tape of this is a lot better. I did the SOUND at California Jam.

    Prepare for the Coming.

  • i am preparing!

  • March 15 is when I open a major nationwide publicity campaign. At first we're promoting the 35th Anniversary of the behemoth.

    Prepare for the Coming.

  • This whole show is on a bootleg cd called Bagdad. The cd is 63 min. of awsome Sabbath.

  • Spideroriol, thanks for the post obviously from Cal Jam this is archival footage of Sabbath but this seems to be some modified bootleg from the original film I have "children of the grave" from the same concert on various tapes that I

have bought through the years but I have never seen additional footage until now is there complete footage of black sabbath's performance available. ?

  • sabbath rules great song, could the tape be any worse xD

  • geiles lied

    grausige aufnahme

  • SMOKERS GET HIGH

  • great song, crappy video taping

  • I have the Color version.

    Tjeck out my channel!

  • unf546646464cking real...... this is as good as it gets folks

  • wow this version is fucking awesome

    ozzy's vocals are amazing

  • OMG!!! Tony Iommi with a clean shaven face , now thats a 1st......

  • i don't know what kind of crazy train you've been riding but i've been the prince of fucking darkness since 1979 man~ozzy thanks for posting this its great

  • BLACK SABBATH gua banget man

  • This thing's bigger than Rock if you know where to find it ;-)

  • how you dont know who the hell is tommy iommi poser!
