  • More than 20% breaks is unproductive? I usually use 20% of the time for the work itself.

  • booooo to commercials on youtube

  • yeah! more youtube!

  • Will you be more productive if you watch porn at work?

  • Occasional breaks allows you to relax and also gives you something to look forward to...the carrot on the stick to encourage you.

  • Exactly.

  • I'm at work right now.

    Hmmm....I don't feel more productive...

  • Well I think it cuts the fatigue. I think taking breaks would work best if you find your job very boring. If you find it engaging, you won't need any breaks. It goes without saying, of course. I wouldn't facebook from work though, they have a "real name" policy now. But it's not like you can't just name yourself Lou S. Bauels or something.

  • This sound advertisement is fucking pissing me off to no end.

Anyone know how to shut it up without refreshing the page until it's a different advertisement?

  • Firefox + Adblock

  • I'm doing it now.

  • boss your at a 10 when ya need to be at a 2

  • Lol...I bet youtube, facebook, and twitter all funded the study...

  • I own my own business and watch youtube and whatnot while i'm in my office and it cuts my productivity about 80 fold..lol

  • I have a steady part-time office job spending long hours by myself not interacting with ppl (for the most part) and really doing a whole bunch of nothing. I would go absolutely NUTS and probably would've quit years ago if I wasn't allowed to bring my laptop, psp, ds, magazines, books, portable dvd player, browse the web, etc. lol

  • A little I guess is cool.

  • go australia!!!

  • I do not watch it at work.....I listen while I work, normally. Just like the radio.

  • Same here

  • I like to minimize the show.

  • The last thing that any corporate America, media executives and many in government want, is a citizen who engages his or hers critical thinking skills.

Thank you for reporting some real news.

  • Corporate America does not want "informed employees" and therefore, will not allow employees to access formats (such as youtube or facebook) through their firewall, nor abstain from what they deem as "punishment". But then again, isn't "creating mindless drones" what we are all about in this country? Look at the school system and what is taught, irresponsible media outlets and the limited "talking points" that they focus on throughout the day.

  • I've been a sub teacher! If you gave the kids access to youtube in school, they would TOTALLY abuse it!! Two girls one cup reactions, Charlie the unicorn cartoons, guys lighting up m-80s and blowing up different items, rap videos! Kids are fuckin retarded!! I'm trying to teach my nephew about 9/11 and showing him footage of what happened(he was three at the time and not aware), he got bored and showed me a video of a horse farting!!

  • You should add the link in the details of this video so we can post it at work.

  • Maybe the ones taking the internetbreaks most often allrdy was the most produktive. Maybe it has less to do with what they do then their actual personality and nothing to do with youtube etc.

  • Cenk, I CHORTLE at this stupidity.

A guy who used to be a friend of mine, who lives Down Under, lost THREE JOBS because he was too busy doing YouTube and Facebook to DO his job.

  • lol we used to call these a "smoke break." Mabey they need to call it a free internet break.

  • you know the problem with these kinds of studies is that somebody will come up with a counter-study proving the opposite of this study.

this study does make sense only in one way though, taking breaks for productivity is key.

the part about specifically visiting youtube, facebook, and twitter is pure Bolonium. doing anything not work related would be equally acceptable.

  • good point! but I think they were just using facebook and stuff as a means of "non-work related" activities. but ya, you're right.

  • But, in authority, it is not gratifying; to not browbeat the workers. Where is the browbeating effieciency here? The basic status role of first level management is browbeating and threatening. Who beat Jesus? It was low level management at the behest or agreement of all upper level management. This could be referred to as the Abu Graive model of organizing human behavior. Why do people beat people? It is a primal way of exhibiting authority. It has variations, but mostly threats.

  • "Didnt" as did not want to, or "didnt" as in where not allowed to?

If they where not allowed I would think its more about worker happiness than using the time online.

  • I check up on TYT etc on my 15 minute breaks or during my lunch breaks.

  • I might be possible that efficient people watch more clips by default.

  • Bullshit! Facebooking, Youtubing, and Twitttering in work WILL GET YOU FIRED!

  • fuck that if I am not working I am going home I don't want to hang out with the people I work with

  • dude, fuck twitter, thats why you cant get good service anymore, because everywhere you go some dickhead is always fucking off instead of helping you

  • Internet addiction is now a real disorder and I'm gonna OD on this shit.

  • LOL!

  • I really just can't stand twitter its the most fucking retarded thing ever made.

  • Yes, twitter is for cunts. They should've called it Twatter.

  • Still don't understand the Twitter thing either...I just don't have that much exciting to say about my life every 3 minutes...*shrug*

  • "anal bosses" did anyone else have a dirty image when you heard that? haha

  • i love the young turks!!!!

  • Man, I'm always about 5 physiology, 3 Biochemistry, and 2 Physics chapters behind because of Facebook and TYT. This study was indeed done by Google, cos hey, the more clicks we give them, the more money they are gonna get.

  • fail

  • who did this study google?
