I remember articles about her in the Camp Pendleton base paper talking about her work at Long Beach Naval Hospital. She never remarried. He took on over 1000 elite Japanese troops.  You have to appreciate that the Japanese had never been defeated and thought Americans were soft. Then they met Chesty Pullers Marines and John Basilone. After that day, they were beaten at every turn I guess the Americans werent so soft

yea me too. but anyhow its supposed to air in like january 2009 and it chronicles the battles of guadalcanal, cape gloucester, peleliu, iwo jima, and okinawa. i heard its supposed to be real good and to add on that tom hanks and speilberg are involved with it like band of brothers which was awsome. and then generation kill came on. i was like meh because it kinda talks down our Corps but it is what happens alot. but anyhow yea, its supposed to air in early '09 and i hope will be real good.

GySgt Manila John Basilone is one of my heros and insipartions. He mowed down wave after wave of oncoming Japs and held off 3,000 of em. During the invasion of Iwo Jima he said to his men "Weve got to get these guns off the beach" and ran up the hill and was blown to bits by a mortar. He was the only Marine in WWII to get the medal of honor, navy cross and purple heart. He was also a boxer and on his arm was tattooed "Death before Dishonor". These guys are amazing.

I'm looking at a "Congressional Medal of Honor" challenge coin given to me by Commander Michael Thornton a Navy Seal who was awarded the CMH in Viet Nam. (For my work with Injured Marines and the local Marine Reserve Unit.) On the other side of the coin it says "Congressional Medal of Honor Society"
