The Republicans did not help during the 60's. It was LBJ, a Democrat, who passed the Civil Rights Act, and in defiance, Strom Thurman, a Democrat, became a Republican.

Godspelladdict, LBJ needed Republican votes to pass the Civil Rights Act of 1964 because the Democrats in Congress were against it. BTW, al-Gore's dad voted against it.

LBJ only got the Civil Rights Act passed with Republican votes, the Democrats were opposed to it, including al-Gore's father.

Of course LBJ solved everything all by himself. Yes it is true not all democrats were racist and not all republicans were not racist. The fact remains that republicans have done more for civil rights than democrats could ever dream of doing and Obama would not be where he is today if it was not for the republican party. JFK himself voted against civil rights as a senator. I'm sure an ignorant fool like yourself doesn't even know that.
