The alien chasing you that you have outrun six times now, or shot and killed 20 of, or the monster who kills EVERYONE around you, without more then an arm reach from the trees? What is scarier? Fighting for your life... or Not being able to fight against the unknown which seeks to take it? Give it a watch, an amazing piece.

I thought it was an excellent movie, if for no other reason than the incredible soundtrack by Jon Hopkins. I just recently discovered him, which led to watching this movie in the first place.

Watching Monsters, you can tell that so much effort and love was put into the making of it. It definitely shows all throughout. I like the way there isn't "sufficient monster action", because you get the idea that the whole point of the film and what the people were going through wasn't all about the creatures they had to face. Though it sounds hokey, it's totally valid, and I adore this movie for all that it stands for.

@ibreatheinthesky Well it's why I hate the new, 28 Days Later knock off version, of Dawn of The Dead. The old one had zombies yes, but the movie was less about them, and more about the survivors. Too many movies today in the horror genre sadly are all about "oooo look! Neat Monster Design" rather then pacing. Dawn of The Dead (org) was different, in that it stressed the chaos, and how Biker Gangs for example, had their own army since only those who could fight, had any chance of surviving.

I thought the aliens were completely irrelevant to the entire movie. Instead of using aliens, use the Cartel or something, I don't know. I know it's a short budget, but at least include more alien action if you are going to use the title Monsters.

I watched this movie mainly because there was a similar hype put into it as district nine which I felt was an awesome movie. After watching it I do feel that the quality of the video itself is great, but the storyline was almost utter crap. It seems as if the story writer had initially just wanted a story about the monsters, but was asked to throw in the couple at the end, maybe when he found he couldn't get anyone to support it and had to rework the idea for low budget.

I watched this movie a couple weeks ago @ I was disappointed that it was inaccurate when it came to setting. 1) the scenes in Northern Mexico are in a dense vegetation, rural area you think if when you think of SOUTHERN Mexico. I looked into it and it turns out the movie was filmed in Guatemala, which does not help Mexico's true image of a modern, NOT rural and poverty stricken country as it is depicted in Monsters. Also, it's a wonder how so many references to Guatemala are allowed on the movi

@DVV9 Just the fact that it had no plot whatsoever and that it was actually a pointless movie made it funny to me. The whole time I was expecting something to happen which would eventually turn out to create some kind of storyline, but it didn't. It was mostly the thought of 'what am I watching here?' that made it funny to watch. Also, the narration in the background was pretty genius ;) I'm not claiming it was the best movie ever, but I found it enjoyable to watch.

This movie is really terrible. The horrible lead actors and sloppy/pretentious script overpower any basic technical capabilities the director shows. Just watch District 9 instead. Amazingly, the allegory in District isn't nearly as heavy handed or ineffective as it is in Monsters. Thanks Gareth Edwards. Now independent films can suck as much as studio funded films.

Phil you and many other people need to steer away from using the word soldier to describe our TROOPS. Soldier only describes members of the Army, and yes its the biggest branch of the military but there are hundreds of thousands of other members, including Airmen, Sailors, and Marines. All clearly describing which branch they are from- which are all VERY different in policies, culture, and traditions.

TROOPS describes them all. It is insulting to call a Marine a Soldier.

I think it's pretty clear that ***SPOILER*** the chick dies when the last monster attacks and even if she doesn't they get left behind and blown up by the military.. They have got to stop killing the main characters at the very end of monster movies for dramatic effect, it has become predictable and annoying. :|

Movie was meh... I get that it was low budget, but saying that movie was awesome for the little money it took to make it doesn't make it any more or less enjoyable. I watched this movie the other night before I knew about this movie club. For a low-budget movie, it was an honorable effort, but I really don't think it's worth the time. The premise was very good but the movie was more about the relationship of the two characters than anything else. And that didn't flesh out completely either.
