Aftermarket lights on your car that are not white and/or are for show are illegal when your car is in motion or in general traffic on the roads. You can turn them on when your car is on private property. I am not even sure whether you are allowed to keep them on while your car is stationary and parked on the side of a public road. But I doubt cops would do anything about it

Asides from that - cops are not the people to ask what is legal on cars. While they can defect you - they know a lot less about defects than car enthusiasts. For example. You could add a brake light - legal. But its red. So by your theory its illegal. Unnecessary distracting lights are defects...

My mate is also a cop. So what...? Reading up on the law doesn't mean you have all the answers either. Particularly when it can be misinterpreted. That's the job of a lawyer... I also know how to get out of a ticket if there is reasonable doubt in the way the information was acquired. However, acquiring the resources to prove that you are right and the police offer was wrong costs in excess of 60 thousand dollars for a period of 18 months or more. There was a court case just recently about it actually. And not getting out of a ticket doesn't mean you don't know the law. It means you BROKE the law. Just because a cop does something doesn't meann its legal.
All speakers are legal. What you do with them can be illegal.
If you are on public property, ie streets, and you are blasting them on full volume. You can expect a citation from officers for 'offensive noise.' If you keep it down when necessary you're fine. You cannot be an annoyance to the public. If you want to blast them... you better find a private property with no one around for a few hundred metres to be sure you won't get a complaint. Doesn't mean people don't still do it.
First of all... neons use an Alternating Current. So there is no polarity - no negative and positive. You hook them up to an inverter which supplies the CORRECT amperage. You cannot hook anything up to the subs. The subs use power - not supply. If you mean amplifier, then you can't hook up a neon directly to the amp because it uses AC. If you hook up the inverter... it will blow. The amp has immense power pulsing through it. You would fry the circuitry in the inverter.
They're actually cold cathode fluorescent lights. And I'm pretty sure I know what I'm talking about. Asides from the fact you said you hook up the 'neons to the subs,' I am also an electronic engineer.
If it worked for you... then I'm happy for you. But I guarantee you did not hook up a neon directly up to a subwoofer. Previously explained why.

The 'battery' in the picture is your 12 VDC power source for a 12 VDC rated neon. This means they are either made for a computer or automotive power source - as they run on 12 VDC (theoretically). So they are either L.E.D. 's or CCFL's with inverters/transformers. The 'lamp' in the picture, is the commercially ready and available light source you want to hook up - which have simple buffer circuits built in.

I believe they retailed for 1200 AUD, but I bought it for less. Unfortunately I have been notified that they have discontinued this stock of subs and boxes - in Australia anyway. Apparently all their new stuff has gone severely down hill :(
The neons themselves are separate from the inverter. The inverter needs a 12 VDC input which supplies the CCFL (cold cathode fluorescent light) once plugged in. Most CCFL's or neons however come with everything built into them these days - especially if they are specifically made for auto applications (all you do then is provide it power with a switch and fuse on the way). The ccfl's in my application are simply placed in the lip of the boot in front of the subs with a switchboard

Wrong again. They're all too big for a neon. And if by some chance you hooked it up to the output of the amp and it worked... then it would pulse... because speakers dont have a constant flow of current. Think about it... it has to fluctuate in order to change the frequency and volume. Adding to that... why would you attach an electrical appliance to the output of an audio amplifier. It's meant for one thing.

Kicker are good... I prefer MTX. Soundstream, rockford fosgate. There's a few out there. JL beats em all, but you pay for it. It all depends on the sound you go for. They all have specific beats... check em out and make the decision for yourself.
They're everywhere. Online stores, ebay, car stores, audio stores, electronic stores, pc part shops/warehouses. I tend not to say where because youtube is a global community, and if I tell you stores I use in Australia, you may have no idea.

Those subs aren't in a car anymore. They're sitting around gathering dust in my room. As for bolting it down... that sub box was way too dear to punch holes through it. If I did anything, it would of been velcro straps from underneath.
Sorry to say - they are not. Even though they are sitting in my garage doing nothing but collecting dust, Australia no longer supplies Thunder 7500's and this box has been discontinued. I paid a lot for this system, and the sad thing is sound systems do not have a good resale value. As a matter of fact - I don't think I've seen anything depreciate faster. I would lose about 90 per cent for what I got it for. (No exaggeration). They're worth more to me than they would for you :P
As tempting as that sounds, sorry but I'll have to decline. I don't see the point in selling individual parts off, and it won't be worth it in the end anyway.
Depending on which country you live in and where you can source it from. They vary a great deal. Best bet is to look at prices in your local region and see the general price.

If you really want to get technical... you can wire any electrical object to a car you want... as long as your power source and cables can withstand the power. And it doesnt just need a +ve and -ve terminal. You could use a large in car inverter which (yes has +ve and -ve inputs and) has AC output. At that stage you can hook any AC instrument as well (limitations set by alternator/battery/cables).
But if you want to look at the basics of a car... then you still can't hook up anything with a +ve and -ve as you also need to look at the voltage input, and whether the cabling in your car is satisfactory. It just so happens that computer fans/lights run at 12 volts.

Those subs aren't in a car anymore. They're sitting around gathering dust in my room. As for bolting it down... that sub box was way too dear to punch holes through it. If I did anything, it would of been velcro straps from underneath.

Sorry to say - they are not. Even though they are sitting in my garage doing nothing but collecting dust, Australia no longer supplies Thunder 7500's and this box has been discontinued. I paid a lot for this system, and the sad thing is sound systems do not have a good resale value. As a matter of fact - I don't think I've seen anything depreciate faster. I would lose about 90 per cent for what I got it for. (No exaggeration). They're worth more to me than they would for you :P

Technically speaking you can wire anything that has a positive and negative terminal in your car. I have 2 CPU fans wired onto my amp in mine :D

If you really want to get technical... you can wire any electrical object to a car you want... as long as your power source and cables can withstand the power. And it doesnt just need a +ve and -ve terminal. You could use a large in car inverter which (yes has +ve and -ve inputs and) has AC output. At that stage you can hook any AC instrument as well (limitations set by alternator/battery/cables).

But if you want to look at the basics of a car... then you still can't hook up anything with a +ve and -ve as you also need to look at the voltage input, and whether the cabling in your car is satisfactory. It just so happens that computer fans/lights run at 12 volts.
