They are for the already redeemed, its something that aids in become holier to spend less time in Purgatory. You realise they didn't die on the island, though, right? I mean, Jack did, but the ones that were in the plane actually got of the island and probably lived their lives to very old ages, we don't know. The afterlife thing just showed they were so connected from their experiences, that none of them could move on from limbo/purgatory until they were all together.
@berserker912 That 'after life' side-story was for emotional satisfaction; you get to see what happens to every one of them at the very end of the line, but that isn't the full story; they all lived their lives separately and died at different times, some years later than others. We aren't told what the characters did immediately after they escaped on the plane, that's something left for us to fill in however we wish. Though we do know Hugo and Ben stayed as guardians of the island.
ok this is what happened no one survived the plane crash they ALL died and ALL had fantasy's about what it would have been like if they survived that's why when Jack got there and saw his father his father said aren't we all dead because they were all dead from the beginning they just had fantasy's about what it would have been like if they survived and had to live off the island

I can say in the chapel there were references to Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism, and Islam. It was very inclusive even if most references were Christian in nature ( "Christian Shepherd" ). The chapel made it clear it wasn't JUST a Christian afterlife. LOVED IT!
Thank sol 24 had a decent ending. I was half thinking we were going to end up with another ending consisting of everything you have watched for the previous seasons dosen't actually matter because everyone dies. Bullshit ending

@giomole Actually, I will say that over 70% of people liked the ending. The people who are expressing their frustrations are the science fiction contingents (geeks) who obviously post negative reviews online. It is kind of sad because it demonstrates that half of the things in Lost went over their head. All the answers cept maybe Walt and Egypt WERE answered by the way. You never get all the answers in life handed to you in a silver platter and the same is with Lost.

the flash sideways scenes was them in the after life or "spirit world". They had to remember their mortal life before moving on and when they came into contact with each other this happened. Christian said to Jack, "some died before you, some long after you". The church was a meeting place where they could all get together, reunite, and then move into heaven aka the afterlife together. This is why Ben apologized to Lock, and stayed behind. It was actually a very beautiful ending.

I liked the ending, i think it was pretty awesome. Don't care for anyone elses opinion, i thought it was very well planned, and in my eyes, the real survivors in Lost was:
Sawyer, Kate, Claire, Miles and Lapidus. And perhaps Desmond later on, but how would i know.
They made it off the island! (I think it was a pretty random group)
As for the side flash, nice touch but i liked the "real story" a lot more.

I agree. It would be end more satisfying than what was presented. Well, I must admit when seeing Jack covered with blood and the dog coming the only thing I had in my mind was - So now he's going to eat him?(Do not, I repeat, do not have your dog come no way near human blood, it is tasty...). And my biggest and final disappointment with Lost finale... well, actually it goes together with BSG finale, but okay. As European atheist I do not want to be persuaded on TV I like, that I should BELIEVE.

@Derealmist I don't understand how this was in any way persuading you to believe. I am atheist also, and in no way did it seem like an ending about "god." Just because you do not believe in god does not mean you do not have a spiritual side. The ending was about redemption and atonement, the ultimate apotheosis, and a meaningful "ending" with the ones you love. Also, a central focus of the show has been science vs faith.
@Derealmist The show makes numerous biblical references and allusions on the integral thematic focus on science vs faith, but it doesn't stress "GOD" but in fact the ideals that religious people should follow, redemption, forgiveness, atonement, etc. To say that you do not believe in those principals is sad since that is what the show is about. Never was this show about an island. It was a show about characters, journey, and a strong thematic focus that no show in history has every dared to do.

I always ask people if they thought the title was referring to a bunch of people being lost on an island, or being lost in their lives (lost souls). Obviously you believed the first one, and missed out on a lot. Deep= a show that explores the philosophical questions such faith vs science. You really think deep means another CSI episode?

Initially, I wasn't thrilled, but looking back there was a moment when my heart dropped knowing that the story was over and in essence, the lives of the characters. I would attribute it to the end of a really good book. That being said, the mystery part never really came to fruition. I understand that leaving partially mysterious has it's benefits, but there were so many plot holes useless characters. It needed to be more thought out.

Jack does not die! As i recall jack was in the same spot he was in when the plane crashed in season 1 ep. 1 also right next to the dog! The plane that he saw was the plane that crashes and with the people he helps. It is a parallel loop. It happens over and over again. You even see the shoe. A huge clue that he does not die it just happens over and over again.

Everything was predictable, Cherry Jones's acting was pitiful, and nothing happened. I mean, who thought Jack would actually shoot Charles? If you disliked Lost's ending and liked 24's ending, this show was never meant for you. 24 is a decent show, but that ending was a horrendous end to a season 5 copycat.

@Ne0nBlu3 Its not a female symbol. It is some egyptian thing though. Who built it, well plenty of theories, but we know it was during the reign of Jacob. He probably had others build it just like the temple. Why is it there? It is Jacob's home since the cabin was infiltrated, and my guess is that it is more proof that this lineage of protectors have roots in Egypt like how the light teleports Locke and Ben to the desert.

I'm watching LOST all of it now. From Season 1 to Season 6 and am nearly done. Outside of "The Constant" I really wasn't that moved or impressed.

but seriously, from what i've seen the seen the opinion is split down the middle. half liked the ending, half hated it. i really liked the ending, but that doesn't mean i wouldn't have preferred a more satisfying conclusion with having a hit load of questions answered. like everything else in life it's all a matter of opinion.

@giomole Actually, I will say that over 70% of people liked the ending. The people who are expressing their frustrations are the science fiction contingents (geeks) who obviously post negative reviews online. It is kind of sad because it demonstrates that half of the things in Lost went over their head. All the answers cept maybe Walt and Egypt WERE answered by the way. You never get all the answers in life handed to you in a silver platter and the same is with Lost.

Guys,
the flash sideways scenes was them in the after life or "spirit world". They had to remember their mortal life before moving on and when they came into contact with each other this happened. Christian said to Jack, "some died before you, some long after you". The church was a meeting place where they could all get together, reunite, and then move into heaven aka the afterlife together. This is why Ben apologized to Lock, and stayed behind. It was actually a very beautiful ending.

I liked the ending, i think it was pretty awesome. Don't care for anyone elses opinion, i thought it was very well planned, and in my eyes, the real survivors in Lost was:
Sawyer, Kate, Claire, Miles and Lapidus. And perhaps Desmond later on, but how would i know.
They made it off the island! (I think it was a pretty random group)
As for the side flash, nice touch but i liked the "real story" a lot more.

I agree. It would be end more satisfying than what was presented. Well, I must admit when seeing Jack covered with blood and the dog coming the only thing I had in my mind was - So now he's going to eat him?(Do not, I repeat, do not have your dog come no way near human blood, it is tasty...). And my biggest and final disappointment with Lost finale... well, actually it goes together with BSG finale, but okay. As European atheist I do not want to be persuaded on TV I like, that I should BELIEVE.

@Derealmist I don't understand how this was in any way persuading you to believe. I am atheist also, and in no way did it seem like an ending about "god." Just because you do not believe in god does not mean you do not have a spiritual side. The ending was about redemption and atonement, the ultimate apotheosis, and a meaningful "ending" with the ones you love. Also, a central focus of the show has been science vs faith.

@Derealmist The show makes numerous biblical references and allusions on the integral thematic focus on science vs faith, but it doesn't stress "GOD" but in fact the ideals that religious people should follow, redemption, forgiveness, atonement, etc. To say that you do not believe in those principals is sad since that is what the show is about. Never was this show about an island. It was a show about characters, journey, and a strong thematic focus that no show in history has every dared to do.

@acebunny17 And this is why I feel Lost captured some of the wrong audience. Lots of the show went over your head I am guessing. Such as whole allegory of life. I always ask people if they thought the title was referring to a bunch of people being lost on an island, or being lost in their lives (lost souls). Obviously you believed the first one, and missed out on a lot. Deep= a show that explores the philosophical questions such faith vs science. You really think deep means another CSI episode?

@JPatrelli I was pleased how the show wrapped up emotionally. Initially, I wasn't thrilled, but looking back there was a moment when my heart dropped knowing that the story was over and in essence, the lives of the characters. I would attribute it to the end of a really good book. That being said, the mystery part never really came to fruition. I understand that leaving partially mysterious has it's benefits, but there were so many plot holes useless characters. It needed to be more thought out.

@JPatrelli Well to me redemption is the pretty much the same thing as forgiveness, but its just that religion has stolen it from pure humanism to make it a religious thing, a sacred thing, so I dont see the utility of it, forgiveness is what it is all about. The only utility I can see is making money, seriously the church used to make people pay big money to be redeemed, religion is BULLSHIT

Jack does not die! As i recall jack was in the same spot he was in when the plane crashed in season 1 ep. 1 also right next to the dog! The plane that he saw was the plane that crashes and with the people he helps. It is a parallel loop. It happens over and over again. You even see the shoe. A huge clue that he does not die it just happens over and over again.
