Any video of guys travelling on their bikes is a good thing. I've been without a bike for two and a half years now because of an accident, so I just like to see people enjoying their bikes. It does my heart good. I may get back on this summer, so I'm starting to look at V-stroms. I really miss my Blackbird. BTW-where was the tunnel shot?
@2WheelEscapeArtist Thanks for the kind words. We really did enjoy those bikes. The tunnel is the way in to Real de Catorce, Mexico. It is a beautiful part of Mexico that is very safe and close to the USA (about 1 day drive)
I'm sure you're a much better rider. I wish you could come teach us with your infinite wisdom and experience. I am truly saddened whenever someone who wasn't there insults me based on a 1:44 clip.
did you know the Vstrom has the engine fromtwo wheel topedo Suz TL1000s,all be they tamed it down due to style of bike , it gives this machine a LOT of grunt..not great off road, design is touring, comfort, pillion comfort, high visibility luggage..BMW gs range, heavy, if amazing machines, only as good off road as the rider..watchLONG WAy ROUND with Mcgreggor, how many times did they drop it, ..Value for money Vstrom is near top, tho some quality of it's build in places refelcts the price.
It is a great bike on the highway as well as good gravel roads. As someone who has ridden north to south of the world (almost), it isn't the bike that I'd choose to do that kind of trip. Even though Ewan and Charlie did it on LWR, the GS is another bike I would consider after the V-strom (vstrom is way more reliable, IMO). You're nuts if you travel distance on those big bikes. They're too hard to park in your hotel room :)
v stroms are NOT!!! ladies bikes ive ridden one and although they dont do 280kmh they will give u a thrill drill out the pussy muffler and she sounds really grunty and the torque they have is amazing and they handle fuckin suberbly so easy to ride and comfortable too id rather this wicked lookin bike over those bmw any day i bet ur a know it all fuck head wose never even sat on a bike so till uv ridden one SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I just got back from riding 200+ miles of off-road in central Oregon. Set up correctly, and in CAPABLE HANDS, the v-strom, in my opinion, is an amazing machine. My 08 KLR 650, by comparison, totally sucked off-road, because the skinny front tire always pushed.
I had a DL650 for a couple of years, it was a great bike on the street and on hard pack dirt. To me it always felt really top heavy in the loose stuff.
I agree. I don't have a dirt bike except when I was a kid, but looking at the weight balance on that bike, it would not be as maneuverable as a dirt bike or lighter duel purpose bike. But it certainly has the bigger engine. Yet, for what it is, I think its a great bike.
it is too heavy, once it tips a certain degree while immobile or very slowly moving , a single person can't keep it straight. think 550 pounds plus his own weight to keep upright. it is not staged.
No fault on the V-Strom. The rider sucks. He is braking and acelerating at same time and definitely scared. Sorry, I'm not a Peterhansel, but I had a laugh seeing this guy doing this. I've done some lousy roads on my Strom and it keeps on going. He needs much more practice.
And remember: it's a trail, not an enduro bike and not a trIal bike.
My guess is the acceleration is because of the sharp decline he is riding... I don't think he was gassing it. We were just having fun taking the bigass bikes places they shouldn't go =] Though the last drop would have been difficult on any bike because of the grade.
It was you?! You also seem very tired... :D I know that after keeping the Strom from falling 3 or 4 times you feel like throwing the bike away. :D
Better luck next time.
BTW, try some Continental TKC'80, they are amazing off-road tyres. On the Portuguese V-Strom forum some guys tried those and it almost seems a different bike.
It looked to me that the tires might not have been good for going offroad. I didn't see much tread. Wrong tires for the dirt, plus what you said, will cause tips all the time. Just had to throw my $.02 in there. :)
People who say they have a trail bike are nuts -- but one thing to know... shots of the bike not having any problems aren't as much fun as people falling =]
I agree, thou comments say it is a good dual pupose bike the videos dont seem to support that idea. But then again it might be the soft suspension plus the street tiers.
Soft?! You don't know the V-Strom. Soft suspension is the one on a Africa Twin or on a Transalp. Soft is definetely NOT the word for the Strom suspension.
hahahaha, I don't know about that! The strom can make it anywhere a GS can, just not 120mph on the highway. Since the video, I have added a F650 GS to my garage. They're both great bikes.

The vid doesn't do the grade or the loose surface justice, but yeah - I can certainly use some practice ;)
Btw, no gas involved - that was just gravity
