one has to remember the only reason reagan is so revered by republicans is cause he's the only republican president since teddy roosevelt (who btw, left their inauspicious party) who had any success or real popularity!

can anyone name another president other than those 2 in the 20th century with a memorable administration?

the dems have FDR, truman, JFK & clinton in recent history on which to hang their hat.

the reps really are a shameful bunch with a truly empty barrel of good presidents!

@wntoply6 Interesting take. I lean left, but I tend to think Eisenhower and his administration had some degree of underlying decency. For a military man, I give him pretty big props for his departing "Military/Industrial complex" speech, though he was strangely quiet about anything re. the pending Vietnam involvement and build-up. His right during retirement maybe, but... And I'm open for debate or dispute of these words. btw I believe Mr. Carter has a good basic decency.

@GaryHMan agreed, but eisenhower will hardly be remembered as a great president by the majority of republicans. that he was much more liberal than any other republican except nixon did not endear him to the then main stream right wing.

and, certainly he's not a favorite of today's extreme right wing who do indeed favor the "military/industrial complex", even though its basic tenant for existing is opposite true Christian philosophy & teachings that the "christian" right professes to bow to!
