  • Excellent work guys, cheers! :-)

  • Good tutorial for the parts I could hear you talk :P

  • haha you can't polish a... you know

  • how do you make a good sounding shuffle without making it sound like a machine gun?

  • @Xenitic use a closed hat and a snare with short decay and release lower them down in the mix and put them on the offbeats as ghost notes, it takes a bit of practice but you'll get there. dont go over the top with shuffle though.

  • @Xenitic u can also use an offbeat delay

  • mystery ofa good beat, in EQ, velocity, and compression

  • what is it?? Logic pro 9 ???

  • @wtfkarWill69 Nahh it's on PC.. looks like cubase 3 but can't be 100% sure.

  • @MagicalMelan thx for reply

  • @wtfkarWill69 cubase 5 or 3sx

  • what softWare?

  • bareeee leeeeeen

  • Is there a website that shows you where all the difrent sounds should sit in the spectrum ? as this is the only bit that fucks me over when doing anything. Cheerz

  • @alexxj220 Hey ... I've been researching this and it depends on weather u'r doing drum and bass or dubstep or house or watever but I found that just googling the genre and frequencies really helps!

  • Chap on the right looks baked

  • @djkestrel i was about to put a comment meself haha he looks like he's been blazing up to fuck

  • These guys crank out some fat tunes... MAD RESPECT!

  • where do they or in general anyone get good drum samples and not the crappy presets you get with most software???

  • @lancsno1 You buy a sample cd, or you sample it yourself

  • I bet this setup is ancient compared to their studio now

  • WHAT IS THAT SPECTRUM ANALYZER

  • @jaykeone I spent ages trying to get it... in the end i decided to use blue cat's freq analyser. It does the job fine!

  • @jaykeone inspector xl, god aspire85 has already told ya

  • @jaykeone RNDigital Inspector XL, I agree its the best analyser there is :D

  • what is that spectrum anylyzer?!?!?!

  • @jaykeone inspectorXL I think mate.. or somethin along those lines..

  • I wait for the day that oldskool breaks are never used for any reason at all.

  • what keyboard is that? so many pros use it

  • @saronrock Some M-Audio Keystation I reckon

  • @suppenhahn I thought it was that aswell. But i dont think keystation has that little blue lit up thing on the left bit above the pitchbend control.

  • @suppenhahn no worries. I actually found out its the Evolution MK 249 or something. Looks a lot like a keystation though.

  • Sporadic bizness!

  • Sporadic!

  • 10 layers of drums. wow! mine have about 3 lol

  • @kapowrah yeh they put drums/snares/hi-hats etc. on 1 layer each probz to make it look 'better' but in theory you can put all your drums in one lane but it can get a bit messy

  • @FuzionDubstep Depends if you want to side chain or add seperate effects to different drums really, i make my beats in one bar then duplicate it and split it into seperate layers

  • They both look so stoned lol. N WTF is up with the cameraman? On EVERY CM video ive ever watched he is bloody awful.

  • what software is that? sorry, i'm really horrible with determining which software is being used.

  • @threecheerer cubase mate

  • @threecheerer cubase buts its an older version, 3 i think

  • I cannot seem to mix my drums well, or at least get a decent snare!!!

  • camera mans drunk

  • @tnwellian I think hes drunk in every Computer Music Vid LOL!

  • @tnwellian :D:DD::D:D

  • @tnwellian and the guy on the right is stoned

  • @TehSaone I thought the same lol

  • the frequency anylizer is essentially backup for your ears eh! never thought of using one to be honest. if i learn nothing else, i will use that.

  • what are they using? ableton, sony acid? im sure its not fl studio or logic thanks

  • @SearchInSun CUBASE for shure

  • mean thanks guys, do you work on all your beats together, or work at separate stations?

  • Wanna get some shuffle? It's easy, get yur hi-hats on all the odd 16ths (1/16, 3/16 etc), and gat the same hi-hat sound but lower in volume (and maybe pitched up a little) on all the even 16ths.

Try getting 2 cymbal sounds in as well; one with a release and one that closes quickly. (E.g. release cymbal on 3/16, closed cymbal on 13/16.)

  • which frequency analyser do they use? you can see it at 1.35 min....but which one is it...my freq analyer is shit..need this one, too....thanx

  • they are using Elemental Audio Inspector XL

  • what does a frequency analyser do?

obviously it analyses frequencies, but what difference does it make?

    cheeers

  • @Jimmmeeehhh it doesnt make a difference to the sound it tells you the volume of each frequecy

  • And you can use that information to seperate the frequencies better by using eq, compressor, gate and carefully selecting your sounds. Also try and use the time dimension to seperate sounds by introducing pauses in the melody and seperating multiple melody lines. These are some of the techniques you can learn by studying mixing.

  • @clan232323 there is a nice freeware analyzer called SPAN from VOXENGO

  • Comment removed

  • @EarjaxProductions SPAN is an analizer. Elephant is a compressor/Mastering Plugin. big difference. I am not shure why you drop that in ;o)

  • If you guys want to learn something, watch "Nathan Fake Masterclass"

they do a track in 45 minutes with creating nothing

    pure shit.

  • anyone know what monitors they're using?

  • mackie mr8 monitors

  • Speedy delivery!

  • @diderkamal1

those are not MR8s those are Mackie HR824 MK2

  • @diderkamal1

    HR824's mk11 actually

  • @diderkamal1

    HR824's mk11 actually

  • What program is that? I'd really like to know because I can't see its name anywhere on the screen

  • cubase

  • i know a geezer that uses logic in his studio. and he does voiceovers for tv and that.

  • Does anyone know any good download sites to get rock breaks to make the splash. It seems there the hardest to find. If you could help me you'd be doing me a huge favor. Cheers guys, JB

  • You can get a great drum sampler call drum kits from hell and make your own rock beats (very easy), Even blast beats like Anaal Nathrakh are possible and sound organic

  • just find any live drum break sample will give you that splash sound you're after.

  • Where abouts??

  • @ JB you should look at a plugin called addictive drums, you can program the beats yourself but it comes with grooves and sounds very real

  • You can't polish a what? :F

  • why on earth are they using windows?! buy a mac lads...

  • Yea they could get a virus or something might crash. Mac's don't get viruses or crash. They should have make this whole track in garageband and exported to itunes.

  • garageband?! bit schoolboy. cubase is okay. logic is really good - what i use.. protools is king.

  • Everything I said was sarcasm. I don't expect someone making statements like 'protools is king' to understand that.

  • ahaha im not joining in your youtube abuse bollocks. whatever man.

  • protools is probably the best DAW going. Logic isn't really very serious. Cubase is alright too

  • logic isn't bad. the only reason I have it on my comp is coz my lecturer wont take any work on ANYTHING else. Cubase is cool and pro tools is the fuckin nuts.. logic is the only one that isn't really a professional audio DAW. You wouldn't find it in real studio

  • mmm i disaggree. ive had sessions at a couple os studios that use logic. pro tools is definately the majority, of course.

used to see cubase alot in colleges n such. havnt seen much in studios. maybe cubase is favoured by the electronic musicians - ive done mostly acoustic work.

  • they do, its just very uncommon to get a virusfor mac.

  • wut software they usin?

  • cubase i think bruv

  • @riekie14 : Cubase/Kontakt

  • any one know were i can down load a sectral analyzer as a plug in its not on cubase studio four or if it is i cant find it HELP

  • Google this: "Voxengo SPAN". It's a good, free spectral analyzer. :)

  • i think that spectral analyzer is a waves plug in. :-)

  • The Spectrum analyzer they are using here is called "InspectorXL" by RNDigital Labs :)

  • can I go chase and status university in holland?

  • is there any chases n status tutorials on settings for bass and synth sounds??????

  • they need to do a dubstep tutorial mann. they got the hottest wobble sounds n effects

  • lol a dubstep bass is rly easy to make

  • who said it wasnt :P but making a hot ass banger is a different story. end of the day we're not all at chase & status standards lol

  • lol , you can make the same effect with fl love filter :P , but yeah they got nice shit ;O

  • i mean, anyone can use an effect. but composing it and arranging it into something creative and mind blowing isnt something everyone does, evidently :S

P.S my names Amir too for fooks sake :P

  • nice hat

  • what eq are they using to cut the bass?

  • ''Waves'' plug in

  • cool, cheers!

  • why are you guys saying dnb HAS to be complicated, it can be the simplest song yet be fucking awsome...

  • erm what's the name of the software they are using?

  • "cubase sx" isnt it-hard to see from blurry vid..

they're deffo using waves plugins tho-spot them a mile off

    :-)

  • okay thanks mate : )

didn't know such artists use programs like this

  • Cubase SX. But that was then. They are a lot older now. ;-)

  • It's called Adobe Photoshop

    Good luck.

  • Great video, thanks.

  • I've seen all of these tutorials now and it just makes me realize how unimaginative and boring d'n'b production is. Im not pidgeon-holing the genre in any way, and I know there are more creative artists out there (SPOR), but all of these d'n'b guys do exactly the same thing. I think the best one of these 'production masterclass' vids has to be the young punx. He really knows his shit.

  • LOL

He's so proud to tell he use no compression and no maximizer.

But he use packs already compressed and maximize, or samples from CD already processed too. Does he realise that ?

    There is no work here.

Plus this D and B is too simple.

listen hellfish or anything from Planet µ, and you'll ear what is a real work.

I never heard Chase and status and I'll surely never do.

  • dude, you suck donkeyballs

  • Why ?

    are they your idols ?

I Hope not, they do the most simple electronic music ever made. A shame to earn money with that.

But you're probably 17 and don't know what is complicated music. So you're not responsable of your bad taste

  • dude this is just an toturial! They not showing of their skills, they not my idols, but they can make music :p Im 16 and I know electronic music better then you think, jackass :p hah

  • LOL

you don't know what an oscilator or a deesser does

you don't even heard about early reflection

  • mate you've just made yourself look like a complete ignorant prick for saying that. So you think the only 'good' music is what is complicated and makes money? What exactly qualifies you to judge somebody else's taste in music? They make music that peopole go out and have a good time listening to, I bet you can't do that. I'm studying for a music degree, and I can make shit as complex as you like, doesn't mean it's good. That's just ignorant

  • no, I think the only good music is complicated music and make no money.

D and B is not enough complicated for me except Photek and certain other guy.

paris hilton make people go out too !!!!!!

    it's not a proof

Listen Hellfish, and Venetian snare. That is complicated and good music !

    :D

  • well thats just stupid. lots of awesome musicians and artists make money too. music can be over complicated, like avante-gard jazz, and sound shit! drum and bass isn't always simple either, drum and bass can be as complex as african drumming, which you'd learn about if you knew about music. Try listening to Music Club by these guys... they know how to make a tune

  • LOL

If you think "chase and status" do great music, you definitly don't know nothing about this music, dude.

There is no work compared to milanese or Bogdan Raczynski

    This is D'nB for kids.

    Try something else, you'll see

    bye

  • we all like different stuff, keep your opinions to urself

  • D and B is not enough complicated

  • and...?

go listen to breakcore or something, this is drum and bass is, get over it. if you want complex dnb then listen to spor or noisia

  • I follow your advice :

I'll keep my opinion to myself.

I leave you with "Noisia and spor are complex dnb", you're probably right. ( :D ... LOL ! )

If I want complex music, I'll surely never go to Renegade Hardware !

bye, and thanks for Ae and AFX.

  • LOL you're exactly the type of brainless IDM-loving dick lickers that AFX despises.

  • LOL

  • What the fuck did any of that mean?

  • Comment removed

  • Maybe, that is exactly why they are not putting anymore processes on them then!

You stupid fuck. You stupid, stupid fuck lol.

You can't even write English properly "and I'll surely never do. " Sheaaaaaaaat!

You deserve to feel the pain of a thousand lashes of a wet shoelace on the pee hole.

  • You seem to know nothing about internal mixing LOL

I'm sure you never heard about early reflection too

You're just able to say "fuck".

    Can't you speak english "properly"?

  • claim34 SHUT the fuck up!

Im not gona get into any arguments, stating my opinion because i couldnt put up with reading anymore of your bullshit jargon... 'you dont even hearda burta shmurta internal reflection'... you FUCKKIN IDIOT!!!!!

Go listen to some other music. theres no room for fanny holes like you in the dnb scene.. some advice go read a book, educate yourself and maybe write your shit opinions down in that.. coz know one wants to hear them...

  • im really amateur when it comes to this..but how do they change the sound of the kick drum?

    What are they using?

    Thanks.

  • Same question... what Analyser?

  • What spectral analyzer they using?

  • What spectral analyzer are they using? Anyone know?

  • its the ixl analyser

  • obviously

  • one is chase and one is status

  • Saul (left) is Chase, and Will is Status

  • Comment removed

  • its cubase sx 3 mate

  • Thats not reason its Cubase, reason doesnt use audio.

  • yeh, its cubase, reason looks completly different!! lol

  • 4:46

    He says rimshots. Hehe

  • nice sheen.

  • If anyone has worked out or knows what that spectro analyzer is called tell me. thx! leave a link were to find it.. realy appreciate it if anyone can tell me thx.

  • Inspector XL, on the 1/3 Octave tab.

  • wicked vid, thanks for the upload!

  • edit: scroll a few posts down and read lol someone already asked your question.... and i've answered it again.

  • looks like cubase sx3

  • what program do they use to make beats...... ent a vst.. is it :S

  • whats the rock break they use?

  • i fink its the break from the start of oasis supersonic..... just as good

  • How do you/what programs do you use to make beats from scratch?

  • reason is best for dub and drum and bass .. i use fl but ull need to do alot of work to make pro sounds.. i got a sik libary nd found a couple of pro kicks takes bare resurch most of the shit is wak nd all the sounds in fl are wak.. PRPELERHEAD REASON i think there using cubase not sure

  • The program and vsts don't matter

its what you do with them that does

and you can use any program for making drum and bass

    they're all fundamentally the same

  • what program is that?

  • Cubase

  • right, Steinberg Cubase SX 3

  • buzz nuts lol good vid tho helped me alot big up man

  • good tutorial; played wkd set at dnb awards a couple weeks ago!

  • anyone know what sequencer c&s use?? is it 'reason'??

  • That's cubase.

  • hi do you know if that cubase 4 studio

    or cubase essential 4?

what do you think would be better for what there doing.

    thanks if you know anything.

  • Studio, i imagine. I'm more of a Logic/Pro Tools man

  • thank you appreciate that.

I never had software just hardware,im tired of using that.logic cubase ableton

is what I was looking at.I just got sonar

and I dont like it so I need a better one.thank you.

  • buy cubase 5 most updated version.

  • Cubase

  • Anyone know the rock break they use?

  • This tutorial shows the architecture of a break. I would like them to explain more how to analyze the frequencies and to compress them.

PS: The guys are completely stoned, is visible especially in the beginning, big up boys!

  • wow 5* true pros :D

  • I can't get that kick!!i'm using ableton and my kick doesn't "kick" like that! any suggestions pleaseee!!

  • SATURATOR to give it some dirt and thickness.

also, try lots of different kicks.

  • Start with some better samples. Try some kicks from "club sounds" sample cds/packs. Good samples and a little enveloping make all the difference.

  • damnit.
