I noticed that when you stop to hard cast you don't use either either Fireball or FFB, but scorch. Any reason for this or just personal preference?

I usually just use scorch when in pursuit or retreat and hit FFB for melee to kite, or FB on ranged or controlled guys.

Please forgive the nub question. I was checking out your spec and I see that you put points into burning soul. Is pushback a real problem in Cata? I know that if you are a mage and are letting melee hit you so that you can cast something, then you are doing something wrong, so then my question becomes this: Is pushback an issue when you are hit by enemy's spells while trying to cast?

@ColombianDisciple Well the fact of the matter is YOU WILL BE HIT and you want it to have less push back because it means less time you waste casting and less time u get hit mening you can get out of their....But no you will not be getting hit all the time

Push back isn't a big deal in PvE, but it's critically important in PvP. I always grab those talents for every PvP spec, especially mage.

i don't understand a few things. i've been watching your fire mage videos for like a year now, you seem like a pro but ... why would a pro fire mage : 1) ignore running scorch ( WTF ? ? ? ) , 2) waste your impact procs , 3) not use living bomb spreads with impact , 4) spam ice lance instead of scorch

speaking of living bomb + combustion spread with impact, i see that fight at the GM, wher you have 6 -7 enemies in a small area, your impact proc is staring at you on the screen yet, no spread ..

@00z3n00 These are all valid questions, but he has reasons for not doing these things. He is a fire mage, this means he CANT scorch spam because he will get spell locked and destroyed. A fire mage is up close and personal so the time it takes to stop a scorch cast is longer than someone interrupting. He only uses impact when he knows he isnt wasting it. He always times it perfectly, also has is high mana cost so he is using it wisely. Ice lance is used so you dont get spell locked.

Jeez, hating on the best = win I suppose? Back peddling is not always a bad thing. Do you play a warrior? Guess what, Swifty back peddles at times. Do you play a warlock? Guess what, Drakedog back peddles at times. Do you play a mage? Guess what (^^) Anaxagoras back peddles at times. The best use every part of the game to their advantage; this includes back peddling. It's a bad thing if you sit and back peddle constantly (huntards). All I have to say.

If you guys didn't notice. He brought massive control to the RBG and that's what he focused on. Instead of casting and getting spell locked, he uses all instant casts and only scorches when he can do it safely.

@50josh50 That's cause fire mages are in a pretty bad place right now. You can't get enough crit for it to be effective, and you go oom really fast because you aren't using mage armor. Most pvp mages are frost, mostly because of it's current survivability and mana regens. I still give him props for staying fire, even though everyone else is going frost.

@Xzigy yes, although in most cases backpeddaling is bad, but after playing a fire mage in pvp myself, i have found that backpeddaling is great for perfect positioning on Dragons Breath and will disorient almost anyone infront of you whereas a strafe run tends to slant the cone to the left or right and may miss your target completly.
