My first reticulated python was a normal and our literally took her 2 months before she stopped biting me and even after that she still bit and struck the cage when I walked by lol. But shes a sweet heart now
i just purchased a whise phase albino female hatchling and she is NOTHING like the tiger retic i had. she is by far the most aggressive little female in my snake collection lol hopefully she will tame down
it is not a big enough snake to do much harm BUT it can still cause some damage, if ur not afraid reach in fastly and grab it behind the jaw bone and it wont be able to bight. hold it like that and it should relax. you should pad the cage so it doesnt injure itself and you should stop teasing it. it is definetly going to get hurt.
try not to let it hit the camera or side of the cage so it doesn't injure itself. handle it more and more gradually getting it used to you and don't feed it in the cage that you keep it in. they become used to food being dropped in and then they learn to go after whatever enters the cage, hand or mouse.
Mine started like this..In three weeks she let me pick her up (I still wear my leather gloves at this point) and she'll sit on my hand and keep her head covered acting shy. So the progress is good. You really just have to work with them I start with gloves and a snake stick. Then progress like I have. 3 weeks and we're doing ok.
Take something that smells like you, i.e a shirt you just wore, etc, and put it in her tank. She'll hide in it and start to associate your smell with safety and not danger. Keep handling her!
It would break my heart if my Buddy ever bit me...I want a snake I can handle and enjoy...she is beautiful but ....I don't know about all that aggression
she's come along, just enough for me to get her poop out LOL<
but she's an awesome retic, a friend of mines is going to buy her soon..he doesn't have plans on breeding her so he's just thrilled to have her. for me, i believe we developed a BAD relationship LOL< her head is just getting massive...& getting bit, well i dont even jerk back anymore i just put my hand in there and get tagged just to change her water. & she's not stressed @ all
@ondre200 Whether she cares about a hook or not, she needs to get used to one and you or your friend or both need to learn to properly use one. She may be little now, but Retics have some very long teeth and they have a bit of a serrated edge along the back and they can do MAJOR damage. As in need the services of a vascular surgeon and a neurosurgeon king of damage. The trick is to learn to minimize the risk of a bite.
shes young and shes a retic, most baby snakes are nippy and aggressive, it has nothing to do with feeding this is not a feeding repsonse it is a defensive response but causing him to bash himself repeatedly on the glass is not to wise, you'll end up with a injured snake
Keep her cage totally covered so she doesn't keep striking at the glass which is going to eventually damage her tip scales. Get a pair of gloves til she gets used to being handled. The above suggestion is also excellent. Some snakes though never break. If she doesn't I would trade her for something else to a more experience handler who loves the challenge. Makes you want to smack the shit out of her don't it??? I had one that was fine til she went to live food ... then she stayed wild.
& she even eats f/t jumbo rats! I asked bob Clark awhile back if feeding her f/t help calm her down? & he said no! But she still eats f/t with a live feeding response. So I do not believe feeding your snake live kepted it wild...maybe its because you never handled her enough OR maybe you were just being abusive towards her! HUH? LOL<;-o & NO I did not wish to smack the shit out of her! She's just being her! Which I love!!!!!!!!!
Reticulated pythons are among the most aggressive of all constrictors, and are the 2nd largest by weight. They are no joke, and not a good pet for beginner or intermediate snake owners. You really need to know what you are doing with these to avoid serious injury or death. Retics can and WILL kill people if you make a mistake, especially around feeding time or with an aggressive adult.
try exercising in a old t shirt, really get it sweaty (trust me), place the shirt in her enclosure, the shirt will smell like you and and usually a snake will hide under it .then she will feel secure with that scent, hence when you handle her she will think that she is in good secure hands, start by handling her for 10 mins a day and you'll break her eventually...good luck taming!!
i've been getting her out since she was a hatchling. she's also had hiddy holes, she's even been eating f/t & p/k. i dont even watch her while she eats. & she still pisses & shit on me after she bites me when i put my hands on her. she's just NAAASTY! she doesnt speak TAME! NO WAY...NO HOW. but my tiger is pretty cool.
i have been catching sankes for 20 years now i get them from the wild reticulated pythons are the most agressive snakes that i catch.
was your snake brought from the wild and have you ever held him when you first got him? if you wont to know more and i advice you to reply to me and i will tell you tips good luck with your agressve snake:p
hey man thanks alot i appreciate that i'll reply with a full description of this bad baby, & she's been like this since she was a hatchling. some people thinks its the hide hole or she's feeling threatened but i removed it just for the vid, she also hides under the water bowl. but when i open her cage she comes slithering out. she even constricted my arm ounce, i had to pour some fuckin crown royal on her to let me go. but i'll write back as soon as i get to my computer.
ya my granite Buremese is like that too.. Every time i walk by his cage he smashes his head into the glass tryin to strike at me.. I think it might be cuz hes still a baby, so ima wait it out and see if he gets more calm
Yeah Yellowheads are a little more aggressive...I agree with Dannylatics about the hides...she's probably striking cause she feels vulnerable. LOL@ your commentary. Hook training is the way to go...I had my sweet tempered 10' Uno zoom out once thinking I'm food...you HAVE to get that imprinting down when they're this young and stay constant with it. Retics will always keep you on your toes. Good luck m'friend. I can't wait to see more vids from you! Love your Tiger btw.
hey thanks dannylatics for the advise? what if its not the hides though? she's still the same way, i've even covered her cage with a black blanket, like bob clark told me since she was a hatchling, Thanks again!
I thought most pythons are cool enough to be handle, well at least a ball python does. I know some blood pythons are more likely to exercise their teeth LOL.
However why get a python if we can't handle them or toy them right? no offense tho' but for me, I rather get a rhino/gaboon viper which I know for damn sure I can't touch them or else the grave is waiving at me LOL.
no offense taking at all bro, your right. If you can handle those viper babies, getting bit by a python is somewhat of a privilege. im letting her tag me though, i have to work with her. THANKS! for your opinion & you take care yourself my friend.
jeeze i dunno bout this one couldnt tolerate a snake that can get 20 feet plus and is that mean can you even get it out the cage ive had some really mean snakes and if i can just get it in my hands it would mellow out, every time i take it out
she's so fast...ounce she hits the surface it's kinda hard to grab her, she wiggles out of my hand. she's so sick...she will kill a baby rat & wont eat it, she just want to kill it. she picks & chooses when & what she wants to eat.
you know how if some snakes dont wanna eat, they will let their prey cruise around. not madusa she just kills it & makes me do the dirty work. LOL! THE TRUE DEFINITION OF A BEAST!
ya thats crazy if shes just killin rats and constantly not eating them, ya i kno how that is once they get out of ur hands theyll bite u when u go to pick them up
My first reticulated python was a normal and our literally took her 2 months before she stopped biting me and even after that she still bit and struck the cage when I walked by lol. But shes a sweet heart now

For a start get 2 hides in there, one at the warm end one at the cool end to make the snake feel more secure
Stop winding it up tapping on the tank cos your just stressing it out
