  • wow this video even proves it works i mean did you see him own that old lady in the backround!

  • simple and ot the point

  • v ery helpful thanks

  • My favorite swim. Faster and less tiring than others. No longer known in France. I'm 74 and can still swim it properly !

  • @38violon wow!! my grandfather too know it and swim when was younger!

  • This is an excellent swim method for those that have fear of water or reduced cardio-vascular fitness or are in the sea and exhausted.

The key factor with this method is your head stays out of the water at all times which allows you to maintain even and consistant breathing.

In sprint Tri's I easily manage 400 Mts in 3mins 38 seconds with this method

  • ahaha look at the chick doggy paddle in the background xD

  • @arjont The chick in the background is wearing a water jogging belt and at the rate she's going she's getting a kick ass cardiac workout; she might be a runner in rehab or an accomplished triathlete.

  • sidestroke is stupid.

  • thats wrong..

  • that is not right...

  • @biftedes why

  • @booksonrecord because in sidestroke you have to put your head in the water so your body can slide in the water. i f you have your head up, your feet will go down and pull you to sink.

secondly your arms should extend more than this video so you can slide and to pull more water. Its easier.

  • @biftedes youre right

  • is the combat or side stroke more strenuous?

  • and put your head in the water. what are you doing? youre only getting about a 3/4 stroke with your top arm lol

  • u swim slow

  • I learned this stroke just from reading the technique I transcribed from the Complete Guide to Navy SEAL Fitness below and watching a video like this one. It helps to save energy & swim several kilometers without getting tired so a person can do other strenuous activities afterwards.I used it to help my wife when she experienced equipment difficulties while scuba diving in Curaçao.

  • Think of placing something from the leading hand to the following hand near the top part of the chest

  • combat stroke is allowed

  • hey guys forgive my ignorance - but this is the side stroke they expect you to do at the PST correct? One may NOT do the combat swim - Correct me if I am wrong..

  • I NEED HELP WITH MINE!!!! watch my side stroke video and give me some pointers anyone.

    watch?v=r5Tky_jNooE

  • I'm stroking right now ;)

  • darn i dont get the legs?

  • this is REALLY helpful thx so much!it's really nice that they show this under the water.=D

  • I tooted in the water once.... talk about acceleration fish boy.

  • Just got my SEAL contract today! Obviously I have a long way to go but I'm still pretty excited!

  • hell yeah man, i got mine Monday, good luck to you, and ill see you on the beach, hooyah

  • what are your stats currently for pst

  • im competitive everywhere else except swim,

    11:08 swim

    95 pushups

    100 sit ups

    15 pull ups

    9:45 Run

  • nice job. what's holding you back on the swim? is it technique?

  • your right, its technique, thats what my mentor told me. Ive been working on it. my problem is when i scissor kick, my legs have a habit of coming out of the water, so im just wasting power, but im workin

  • And be sure to sort of tuck your head into your lead arm so it dont create drag from being up.

I'm in this process also. It's an amazing journey and I have a great mentor to guide me through it and get me ready.

  • 9:45 1.5 mile run? Are you a fatbody?

DEMONJOSH. You need 11 min swim atleast to meet min reqs for the seal pst. Keep working at it though little guy.

  • @minella18 12:30 actually

  • @minella18 the minimum time is 12:30 for the 500 yard swim

  • @demonjosh16

That's pretty good! Yeah swim is hard for most people most don't have much of a background in it! But just keep working at it swimming at least 5 days a week doing intervals and overdistance and it'll drop a lot! also watching these movies is good too! I watch CSS stuff and freestyle and breastsroke technique I do about half freestlyle at the pool. When I was first at BUD/S i swam a 10:15 an managed ok! now I do 8:00. But all ur other #s look good I'm still tryin to go back too

  • @nobodynoth55 hey thanks for the reply, i dont even remember putting up a comment, i was at BUDs to, got performance dropped. gota a year before i can go back. What class were you?

  • @demonjosh16 class 251 was awhile ago u?

  • @nobodynoth55 282, so almost a year ago

  • @demonjosh16 Nice that's cool why'd they performance drop u? I heard they do a lot of freestlye swimming in indoc now? do they still do tons of flutter kicks with ur ear to your arm going across the pool? haha

  • @nobodynoth55 the obstacle course got me. You go to BUDs prep in great lakes now, and you do a lot of freestyle there. you do all that there. I guess they dont call it indoc anymore they call it BUDs orientation.

  • @demonjosh16 Ahh shit, yeah that's weird bud/s orientation lol ok whatever Yeah never went to great lakes first time, some did just not me don't know how it'll work this time with me being prior service and all. Plus gotta wait till may till my laser sugery 6 months is up probably this thing'll get dragged out Are you going back? I have a rope climb in my backyard works great for prepatation i think ...forearm strength etc

  • The way they prepped at Little Creek is just as I described. It's a little mor difficult at first, but in the end more rewarding. I used to do it the way shown in the video. The energy you save relaxing and rolling really helps you out in the longer distances and van really knock your time down. Give it try, and I'll try and post the training film as soon as I can.

  • keeping your head out of the water like that is actually considered improper now. you're supposed to relax your head and roll over when you're ready to breath as part of your stroke. if you try and take the pst like this they'll correct you.

  • no they wont hatecape, I just passed my 3rd PST yesterday and keeping your head above water is fine. That is the NSW way to complete the side stroke. Dont let anyone tell you different.

  • There are two versions of this stroke: the standard side stroke and the combat side stroke. The one in this video is the standard. The ccs is more efficient and quicker. You can use either one for the PST, but you will soley use the ccs at BUD/S.

  • @etsuace182 It's true they will correct you most places also at BUD/S! it's not as effiecient to have your head always above water for more reasons than one. basically you just don't need to do it it wastes energy and slows u down with drag.

  • its not that hard my freestyle is so weak. when i do this stroke i feel like i can go forever. strokes come eaiser to different people, different strokes for different folks. haha!

  • dude that looks hecka hard

  • it is probably the most efficient stroke for long distance swimming. give it a try.

  • either that or the CSS (Combat Side Stroke). It's a little different.

  • For distance swimming, is the CSS worth learning? (i.e., is it faster than traditional sidestroke, with same efficiency?)

  • Yes.

  • I swam with a PJ last week and you put your head underwater when you do a regular sidestroke as well......

  • its not required, its help for some plp who dont float as well in the water ;-0

  • lol, owned!!11
