  • Wonderful. No one would be able to hear some of that if she hadn't done what she did.

  • Amazing girl, it's just in the blood !

  • She's a doll!

  • awesome!

  • This sweet, sweet woman brings tears to my eyes and joy to my ears. Raised 9 kids and plays so soft&low. She is in heaven right now pickin' under a tree and smilin'. WHAT A BEAUTIFUL PERSON.

  • This IS over Jimi Hendrix's head

  • She is so sweet

  • Great music, keep on pickin' Etta!

  • Her Smile Always Warms my Heart~

  • She had a great tone and an easy, summer breeze style. I really enjoyed watching her play. You can hear the early Virginia folk influences. Where did she learn One Dime Blues from? Jefferson?

  • When did this interview take place?

  • She is a treasure indeed. And there is a course at Homespun from her as well! Gotta put that on my wish list.

  • She is truly brilliant! I also play "two-fingered" like she does. I'm in good company...

  • Totally absorbing - what a wonderful woman!

  • Piedmont blues really hit home with me. Since I am from the Piedmont and all. I love Delta blues as well, but I don't think Piedmont blues gets serious praise like Delta blues.

  • what a beautiful person

  • i wonder who was her father

  • Her father was Boone Reid and can be heard playing guitar with Etta Baker and Taj Mahal on an earlier recording, however he never produced any individual recordings

  • Thanks for the response. I am here in Morganton NC where Etta lived most of her adult life. Boone Reid was only recorded playing solo banjo in the 1950's.

  • what a wonderful woman!

  • Most people probably won't believe me but i'm related to her

  • THIS is were it ALL comes from folks! This is history! This woman is amazing!

  • I would say that THIS is the place (North Carolina) where she came from and also my favorite - Elizabeth Cotton - absolute genius

  • Oh wow. Thanks for sharing this.

  • Nice sounding Martin dreadnought mahogany guitar. Nothing like the sound of those bass notes on a dread. Mahoganys tend to be brassy, but since she plays without picks, it's probably the best guitar for the job.

  • enjoyed, especially the a bit of story about her!

    Cool music too!

  • Hey david you doing the open mike on tuesday?

  • If you like this, Mrs Etta Baker, Family and Friends' 'Instrumental Music of the Southern Appalachians' is a great album.

  • Hey! If you want a piedmont blues expeience, check out the group Piedmont Project. There you get the stringband alternative. They have been said to "keep it real".

  • I'm depressed, I should quit guitar :(

  • I cannot begin to describe how amazing this is. Wow... Just wow.

  • so humble for all her amazing ability

  • Once again- Thanks for posting. AMAZING - Just about a 100% AMAZING STUFF. 5 stars

  • R.I.P Etta Baker

Thank you so much for posting this...

The Piedmont Blues are one of the best things about being alive.

  • Phenomenal, possible the best YouTube video I've every seen.

  • Extraordinary documentary. Great music, information and production! Super!

  • Fantastic interview. Thank you, David Holt -- and thank you Ms Baker!
