  • WELL OBVIOUSLY WE GOT A BEAR IN RUTLAND!!!

  • why could he not be taken to a zoo? or a preserve? or a different country? why are we euthanizing animals because we've taken away THEIR food source, how is this fair? we have the technology to travel through space but we cant find a solution for a baby bear who can't find any other place to find his food. the priorities of the human race disgust me time and time again. let me remind you, we share the planet. without them there's no us. we wait until their endangered to care, what a joke.

  • With that much trash around, no wonder.

L2clean up your trash so that this shit does not happen again.

  • euthenasia is considered morally wrong/insufficent in todays culture when it comes to humans, but how about a bear? do we respect the very SAME basic rights of an individual regardless of being human or non human animals? if so what should be the consequences of such ethical issue?

  • I have bears in my yard all the time.

I had a wolf pack take down a deer 20 feet from my house while I was away.

I choose to live in the wilderness I also choose to share it with those animals already here.

Take your garbage to where it supposed to be and they only pass through.

That said this is a yearling that would have probably died of starvation because it has likely been pushed out of it's regular habitat by it's own mother or siblings.

This was likely the best option given an urban local.

  • The human race arnt the only ones getting lazier and lazier..... The animal kingdom is being affected by us too, I mean why would a bear waste his time hunting and eating berries when he can get some good tasting treats in our garbage.... Do the math if we had to put people in jail for saving a bear life from suffering then I guess we should all put handcuffs on ourselfs because guess what we're not just killing bears..... Wake up people

  • This is definitely a case of cutting down forest, too much abuse of the environment, and sprawl. However, it's even scary to think that this problem would occur even in a neighbourhood that's old and not new. Now imagine all of those newer sprawl, cookie-cutter areas and what they'd be facing.

  • Because this bear remembers where he got rewarded.

How about this bear also remembers where he got tranquilized.

  • And by "destroyed" they mean killed - not simply "destroyed" like inanimate objects... of course that "provokes" an emotional reaction.

They should have re-located him. If he was indeed eating garbage without ever learning to forage for himself, he may not survive the wild, but he'd been only been sighted their for DAYS. Days means he found a food source, not that the food source is the only thing he knows how to find.

  • I see both points of view. I recognize that it is a really sad thing that the bear had to be put down. Really, I'm an animal lover and I can appreciate those who feel upset by the decision made by the conservation officers. But I can also admit that I don't know enough about bears and wildlife to say that what I think is the right thing to do in the situation. I would trust the knowledge, training, and experience of the officers to make a decision they feel is best.

  • put him in a zoo,

  • yea thats the prob with garbage bears...i had one come around my house 3-4 times now i dont think they should be kill but just sent to a zoo or something at least

  • I think he should have been called Recycle bear.

Should have relocated it at least he had a fighting chance.

  • euthanize it? cmon put him in a zoo at least. i hope this people doing this get an eternal karma

  • Calling animal control twice, tranquilized... euthinized.. why didn't you just shoot it with a freakin bullet in the first place?!?! it would have costed a lot less money.

  • That's so mean, it was just a baby bear. Couldn't he have been put in a zoo or something like that? So sad animals have to pay the price for our screw-ups!

  • Relocating doesn't work? These MoFo's are always looking to make their jobs easier.

  • Was there no other way to do this? Tranquilize it or anything? That was horrible! I mean did they really have no other choice? Then look at how small it is!

  • when bears get comfortable around developed areas is when attacks happen.

  • @MillerKiller10001 No - it's when humans continue to build more roads, more subdivisions, more logging, more resource development (oil, gas, mines) that encroach on bear habitat. Along with more and more human sprawl comes human food waste - once bears get a taste of it, they always come back for more.

A garbage bear is unfortunately, a dead bear.

To everyone - If you care about this, educate yourself on how DEVELOPMENT and YOUR OWN PERSONAL CONSUMPTION affects other species...

  • alright, well. yes this one bear was euthanized, but if it came back, mauled a child, or other animals, or caused a traffic collision, im 85% posative all of you would blame the conservation officers for not euthanizing it and letting it come back. No one can tell the future, but in all honesty, they could be saving lives. And as a side note, its just as much everyones fault for problems like these today as anyone elses, so no one here can really put the blame on anyone other than themselves.

  • Wha wha wha. People who get all upset about this sh*t are also the people who have no contact with nature in their lives.

  • We're Canadians. Our country was built by the wildlife and nature. Do you honestly think we like killing animals in this kind of situation? Do you think we get a thrill out of it? No!

If you think, we Canadians, like killing our wildlife due to this kind of issue. You've got another thing coming.

  • alot of stupid people on here saying its such a horrible thing, what about when it attacks someone?

  • VERY sad; however; if they have done enough studies (tracking released animals at various distances etc) & have learned from this that the bear is definitely going to return to the neighborhood, or starve to death..then sadly, the euthanasia option is likely the kindest.

I hate that too...but it might be true.

IF they haven't got enough support from such studies, then shame on them for their laziness & disregard for that bear & all wildlife.

  • poor little bear:(

  • The bear eventually would have mauled some person...it got rewarded with garbage and it would be back and back for more.

  • @MegaJim79 Then the people should move.

  • I love how you can kill a human and get 10 years in jail, but kill a animal and get nothing.

  • @l3allinJames That's just a stupid thing to say, im not even gonna waste my time on informing you how stupid that comment was. I would hardly consider a bears life as valuable as a humans, but whatever you say.

Good choice by the officer anyway, it makes total sense, obviously the bear will come back, or find another city to find garbage in, why not? It's a free meal for the bear thats easily accessable.

  • put it in a zoo prob solved

  • Good decision.

  • why didnt they just take it to a zoo

  • I see ppl writing comments like, "they're right for killing it".

I'm sorry but who has the right to take another's/animal's life?

The animal will have to scavenger to get food, and may starve to death. But that's just the way things are, ppl have taken their habitat, for their own needs.

So how in the world do you think it would be fair for us to judge and kill the bear because we think "it's for the best" when were the ones who taking its habitat, thus making it looking for food elsewhere.

  • @TypicalPeppers i know this will sound totally egocentric but, we humans are the supreme rulers, so we can do basically what we want, get it? thats just life and reality

  • Why don't they put him in a Zoo.

I mean, if he can't make it in the wild, why not keep him alive in a cage.

  • A very unfortunate outcome but not an unethical one.

  • WHAT? ITS JUST A INOCENT CREATURE! humans are evil!

  • These problems increased since they stop the spring bear hunt which controlled the population but also scared the bears back into the wild. The irony is they are killing more bears through bears coming into peoples garbage that if they allowed the hunt with people paying for hunting tags and licenses. Yet the MNR don't want admit they were wrong when the canceled the spring bear hunt it's just easier to kill off hundred of bears and let them go to complete waste.

  • Relocate it way into the wild and it'll cross state lines to find that neighbourhood? Hmm...

  • Let me get this straight, they kill a bear because it's hungry and searching for food, and they let murderers out on parole?

  • They could have relocated the bear to a really remote area or even given it to a zoo. They killed it because that was the most economical means to get rid of it.

  • its just an animal...

  • sucks ):

  • The news is so dramatic and alarmist by using the word 'destroyed'

  • "euthanized" my ass...the unsuspecting 2 year old bear was sniped at point blank range....you can see it at 0:45...a guy sniping the little bear.

  • @rafuzibitch Tranquilizer gun, genius.

  • I cannot believe this! This makes me so angry, like Mermaidsunset mentioned the humans have taken over the animals land, there is no other solution to kill it!!!!! We have many zoo's around the world that I am sure would help out on making this 2 year old bear live a long, happy fulfilled life! But no this conservation officer just decided that killing it would be a better & easier solution then having to find another way to help save the bear!!!!!

  • poor bear :(

  • what a sin.. this bear didnt have a home or anything.. where i live there are little black bears and big ones every summer... they eat garbage.. out cops and conservation officers dont kill them here unless they are like trying to get people and that.. and besides these people are taking their homes and food sources. like here too but, i live in a very small town in labrador............... My piont is why kill him when he isn't harming anyone ? so what theres a lil garbage, i can be cleaned up..

  • stop making hippies cry by recording this garbage and stamping it "real news"

  • @MrBonnerful bears can travel up to 180 miles a day they have a good memory they will remember where the food is. if he doesnt go back there he'll remember that populated areas have food, thus going straight back to them. I have lived around bears my whole life and know how they work, lost much livestock to them and had many dangerous encounters with them just because they were relocated and came right back again.

  • the young bear is innocent

  • wow the person is a conservation officer...that is not conservation. that is the murder of a BABY; a SMALL cub that would have survived after easily being relocated. I could understand if it was a massive bear that they cant control, but this is just a cub

  • I cant believe what im reading in these comments, millions of animals are culled for food every year and youre complaining about ONE bear that is endangering the lives of a community? Give me a break.

  • In A FEW MORE YEARS THERE WON'T BE ANY BEARS LEFT IF THIS KEEPS UP.

  • Thats BS.....If the bear is placed in an area where there is a proper food source it will stay put. No need to kill it!

So Much for The Conservation of WildLife!

  • ''He'll be back...'' ooh I'm scared

  • and these people have the audacity to call what they are doing ethical. The ethical thing would be is to atleast try and relocate him. This makes me sick

  • poor lil guy :(

  • i agree with everyone it obviously sucks to see a cute fluffy bear have to be euthanized but did you guys not hear the end? the conservation officer said "it's much more ethical to euthanize an animal than to starve it to death"

  • this is absolutely horrible; and I'm talking to those wardens! You should be ashamed of yourself. Try to justify this kill? Relocation does work. They do it in the Northwest Territories all the time with the polar bears. The problem is you don't want to take the time

  • It's much more ethical to euthinize an animal, than to starve it to death. Hmmm....and yet it is against the law to euthanize a human. Even if they ask for it to be done. Even if they will suffer and perhaps starve to death in care homes. Perhaps we have something to learn from this video.

  • This is horrible!!!

  • @Delisle4

that is how it is. human beings spread like virus infesting the planet...destroying everything

hunting for fun (very barbaric btw), destroying natural habits, soon there will not be many species or habitat left

  • They should change the term "Destroyed" to "Murdered" and then they should make it very clear that conservation officers didn't murder this bear, ignorant people did.

  • I know what the hell does destroyed mean can't say murdered? The bear didn't hurt anyone just making a living why can't they put him in a zoo or something?

  • @anthonyhiscox well, considering we "murder" several MILLION cows and chicks EACH DAY, I really don't see why this would be a big deal

  • @Fig1024 It is not - but Youtube allow ladies and "new age nice guys" to comment on Youtube videos.

  • Oh, poor cousin. RIP. Truck loads FULL of garbage. WHO's fault is it. We are cutting down our forest to make room for urban communities... WHERE are they suppose to go? The destruction of this beautiful animal is HUMAN error, HUMAN FAULT!

  • @Mermaidsunset

Agree with you. While visiting BC I have seen loads of posters saying to be responsible with food and garbage to discourage bears '- yet that trailer full of garbage just makes the area look like a shit hole. And who looses out - the bear. Pathetic. When will man stop wrecking this planet and spreading into animals natural territory. Probably never - makes me ashamed.

  • @Mermaidsunset OMG!!! ONE BEAR... who cares...

  • Why did they Kill the bear? That is BS cop! You don't know that this bear wouldnt survive some where far away from there. KILLERS!

  • @MrBonnerful like they said at the end the bear would come back.. even if they moved him to the middle of nowhere.. he would find a new community to eat its trash.. likely attacking a child or the local pets.. maybe even an adult.. bears are not friendly they are wild and will kill people.. the chances going up dramaticly if they are living off a community.. all that said it is very sad he had to die :(

  • @MrBonnerful No, they're right. It would have starved to death; painfully, and in an excruciating manner. It would be downright torture to allow this to happen.

  • @MrBonnerful Yea, then if the bear came back and killed a kid, you would be complaining that the conservation officer didn't kill the bear. I am pretty sure you just like to complain.

  • at least put it in the zoo =.= instead of killing it

  • They shhould have moved him 150 KMs into the bush.... thats i think is wrong... if hes hungry he will kill a rabiit.. or a somthing

  • Booo!!! Personally, I'd rather starve to death then be tranquilized and murdered in my sleep.

  • O MY GOODNESS are you kinding me. he was only a baby!!! what a stupid person to say that since he has the taste for garbage he will just come back NO YOUR WRONG guy!!!! He was only a baby!!! There is no need to kill this poor animal because he was hungry, we just needed to relocate him. We need to do something about this!!! I VOTE NO

    A concerned kelowna citizen!!!!

  • @kodaandtoomai Yeah.. it was a baby. All it knew was eating garbage. It would have grown up, not knowing how to survive any other way. It's the best option.

  • @NoJamOnYourBread

that is how it is. human beings spread like virus infesting the planet...destroying everything

  • Poor bear =[

  • Its such a shame. Ah well.
