  • I just got the BluRay for Robocop, and it's great, sure, but no Making of content that Criterion put on their fabulous LaserDisc, it's another great avenue for asking a director, their feelings on DVD, LaserDisc, Home theater and TV versus theatrical. And when you know it's a film Paul is helming, it would seem like he gets final cut on it! haha

  • C'mon you apes! You wanna live forever?!?!

    One of his best films.

  • This man is seriously underrated. "Robocop", "Total Recall", nobody can make violent, fucked-up films like these.

  • @NamwobYnda83 As it stands, Total Recall is set for a Reboot from Young Hollywood, you could say. Basic Instinct as well, It's one of my all time favs

  • "Sometimes a dream is what makes you a slave" - Liz Phair

  • Kubrick was one of the few directors who was so respected that studios would let him shoot for as long as he wanted

  • @Casarzino As mentioned here, David Lean is thought of in that same elite group

  • I love this guy... He get involved so much in all his own movies, most director usually pushes small things to someone else. Believe me try to do more research on this man.

  • He speaks excellent English.

  • @hanshotfirst1138

LOL you are a funny guy

  • Yeah but in context, he specifies being able to walk away for at least a few minutes and get some fresh air and time away from work. He said composers as an example of someone in the same industry with a different work ethic. I'm sure he would know how his composers work, he's been making films for decades.

  • Paul is a smart man, and should get more recognition. Sure, some of his more popular films are pretty unsubtle, but the guy has more brains than you would think. I'm sure we will see more great films from him soon.

  • Yeah, you definately get that impression here. Lots going on upstairs

  • I think all verhoeven's films are more subtle than they appear at first sight, even his "blockbusters".

  • Corporate greed has stomped on creativity and art. It makes us all a little smaller and closer to war. Think about it.

  • I don't think he's referring to deadlines but rather schedules.

  • I would love to be in his position - maybe he wants to trade?

  • I'd trade!

  • Fave Verhoeven quote: about being considered for directing Return of the Jedi, but being turned down by Lucas after he saw The Third Man and Turkish Delight:

"I guess that George was afraid that the Jedi would start fucking right away!"

  • Oh yes, and "Do I feel I have a responsibility as a film-maker.... Nope, I just do what the fuck I like..."

  • I'd trade too! But maybe I don't know what I'm getting into...

    I'm a wannabe filmmaker, so...

  • video? what camera are you using?

  • Comment removed

  • Of course, the things he hates most about directing really comes down to his choices to direct big-budget studio pics, with....lots of pressure.

But he's great. He's got a great visual style.

  • "maybe they could make better movies with more time"

--That's why Kubrick's films are so great. He took a lot of time to shoot, and reshoot.
