I used Audacity around 2005 and didn't really like it, but I must say the software has improved a lot since then. Also, this may just be psychological, but it sounds like it plays my music files a lot clearer than iTunes or VLC.
@Roachamous just start trying to figure out some of your favorite artists' songs (that sound do-able right now.. nothing too ridiculous) without looking. For now just focus on the bass lines and then after that work on hearing melodies and chords. This is just how I started though; I say try what I did and see what's easiest for you to pick up!Ear Training/Interval Training programs REALLY helped me too. You can find a plethora of free ear/interval training programs online.

do a how to get audacity to beable to record music , all the lame download shit that impossible to deal with , i have tried for hours audacity is worthless fraud progream there is no way to get it to work
Andrew , Whilst your a bit of a rarity onYoutube ie someone giving lessons who understands what they are talking about -I think you have approached this the hard way -why not use program like Adobe Audition that slows down the notes without changing the pitch , highlight one or more notes , put them on a playback loop, then slide your fingers along the guitar freeboard until you find the notes
Great lesson, Andrew. I'm glad someone mentioned your channel in some other channel I visit, maybe Justin Sandercoe's. You and him are the best guitar teachers on YouTube.
Great video bro, I'm gonna try singing the notes! :D

Is it also necessary to be able to listen to a random note off of a solo and be able to say which note it is?

at 8:30, how does he know its a B something chord? My ear is so bad that I wouldnt know if it was a D or G evern ;'(
frigitar 1 year ago
@frigitar when he figured out the first 3 notes with his guitar he noticed the last one was a B
it went D D C# B
because the chord came in on the B note and they sounded very similar, the chord is a B
