I froze my crashed external WD 500 Gig HD for a week. Today I connected it to my PC and was able to back up ALL of the data to another drive!!! SUPER WIN!!!

think it might be the gigantic screwdriver that got stuck inside your drive case that caused it o fail but not sure

I like your less orthodox troubleshooting methods! I have Maxtor, I used for about a month, and my computer doesn't recognize it anymore! Says it RAW!

I have the same drive and its making the same noice, but i made a coppy of the drive, Every thing in working, I noticed the drive was failing the smart test (Mac osx Hdd test)
Yea it was in a mac, and i got a 7200 Rpm drive to replace it but im never buying wd drives, I got another one thats replacing the wd and its going to be fine i think

you know he was dying to put that screw driver on the disc...the head looked in good condition its the arm that wasnt working which can be easily replace a trip to ur computer shop a couple bucks and u keep ur data n ur hard drive runs like new..now go stick the screw driver in ur eye out of frustration.. :)
