  • Kyle Landry posted a dozen comments on this. Enough said.

  • Nice! I think you succeeded in making each track unique but still feel like they belong to the same game. In other words, gj :) Also nice instrumentation choice, piano + flute + strings sounds great!

Check out some of my compositions if you want to!

  • i like the concept..check out my video called dark side of the mirror..lemme know what you think..

  • this is great like everything you make

  • i haven't quite gone through with the whole game making process, and i'm still trying to figure out how to properly set up my piano to transmit data through midi so i can record the music, (although i think i realize what i'm supposed to do now...) Anyway i'm probably going to just try composing and maybe put the music up on youtube or some other site.

  • Might you be a pastafarian, good sir?

  • I do not condone noodly appendages.

  • who's Ozzie ?

  • *shrugs* Some guy who goes on a quest.

  • A world famous monster hunter who travels the world slaying beasts that plague innocent people. He disappeared several years ago, but he has been spotted recently, taking down monsters pro bono...

  • thx for ur time

  • I propose a sequel.

  • (double post sorry,)

Of course, I might end up getting more creative if I use Reason, but I don't know.

  • Awesome OST... and I would have to agree with Illusion being the best one.

I'm going to try to compose music for my game... but I kinda need the following before I can get started: Knowledge of how to use game maker properly :P, and a setting/plot so I know what kind of music my game needs... and it seems that I do better with the harpsichord setting than i do with the default setting... (long comment end)

  • What kinda game are you working on? Once you have a mood or emotion in mind, the music and art style should come naturally.

Oh, and while things like Reason add a nice touch, I still write my stuff out by hand.

I remember reading that if you can't create a masterpiece with an ancient 2-octave midi keyboard, a $10m studio won't help you much either. All the inspiration has to be internal -- anything above the basics of music is just decoration meant to cover up things. Or something. :)

  • Well, I was going to use Game Maker, but now I am going to make an RPG using a different program that is specifically for making RPGs.

As for the music, I already have several compositions (that were actually just improvisations but they felt right for the game) in mind. Although I haven't come up with a good battle theme, or boss theme, or major boss theme... or end boss. :P

I probably won't start the second half of June, and it will take a while, since I can only work on it at night.

  • thins video makes me hungry.

I am going to get a sandwich

    with extra cheese

  • You're not gonna tell me and ease my pain?

  • Heheh. It's a puzzle! It'd be like giving away solutions to portal or World of Goo or something :D

If you're on the last level (where the awesome music is), follow your doppelganger around :)

  • The only screen I even see the doppelganger on is the first one, and I guessed that he's supposed to be walking around unseen on the opposite side of the map since you run by each other and that you're supposed to figure something out according to that, but I still couldn't make anything happen going by that guess. I was running around trying to think of different things for at least an hour, and I was totally stuck. It just doesn't make sense.

  • The music is really good and it fits the game perfectly, but please....HOW DO YOU GET THE LAST ITEM?! Haha. You made me go play the game and everything wasn't too hard to figure out up until that last thing. You gotta tell me. It's bugging me.

  • Hey good job, it sounds really awesome and simple too like a SNES game. :D

  • GermanSeabass is one of the best players of piano besides myself BRAVO

  • strangely enough, i'm listening to this so i can stay awake to bs more on my project that's due in an hour..... thanks man. lol.

  • This is good stuff, the midi type sounds really fit with older style games and rpg's. I particularly like the "Illusion" section. You might be interested in some of the compositions on my channel which I've composed, they're a bit more epic and less nicely subtle than your stuff, but they have a game / film music sound. Check them out. But overall nice stuff 4/5

  • is this for the game|???????????

  • Yeah- check the video description. You can play it for free.

  • yeah i played it like 20 times

  • congradulations, you´d done a great work ^^!

  • I can form the video game in my head and actually picture the game... pretty damn cool my man :)

  • Good work, impressive pieces. My only criticism is your over reliance on the piano, it gives all the pieces too much of the same feel in my opinion.

In my compositions i like switching instruments around as much as i can, but it's just a different composition style.

Apart from that i think they're great.

  • I'm a little let down with your "woodlands" song, I don't really think it conveyed a forested game area well, and the piano run in 4:25 didn't do you any favor.

But all of your other songs hit arcade classic well. I particularly like "illusion".

  • Mm, I agree- it's probably the weakest of all the pieces, and I'm still unhappy with most of them. I was rushing to get it done, since I only had about 6 days to compose the entire thing..

And yep, Illusion's my favorite as well. :D

  • Woodlands is great, but indeed not for a forest. But it could fit well into an Underground Dungeon or something like that. I especially like the part, that (again) begins around 4:32. I try composing oldschool pieces myself and think, you did a very good job!

  • i wanna make a game just so i can ask you if you can make a soundtrack for it. Please make more inprovisions!

  • Dude, you MADE these? Wow, good job

  • this sounds like ff7 or ff5 or somethin.. lol good but your sounds are old.

  • yep, I was aiming for a classic arcade-ish feel.

  • DAMN NIGGA, YOU A PIMP!!!

  • you hit it on the nose... its like a sega genesis - golden axe meets a ny one of the older ff games, even up to ffIX. pretty sick

  • That's a catchy tune. :D It sounds like square-enix themselves made it, which to me, makes it all the more awesome. ^_^ you should ttly write more! :)

  • i like all the song !!!!!!!

  • It all sounds great to me. 5 stars!! :)

  • everyone5* from me:D

  • Yeah, I can definitely hear a Layton influence in Downtown Barricade...which is good, because I loved that game's soundtrack.

Great job with this OST, GermanSeabass! If you play your cards right, you could have a career in this!

  • Xd I can't play it yet, but I could make my version of it and post it as a video reponse.. But I'm just an average piano player so I understand if you wouldn't like that. But I may not play my PS3 PC gameboy or whadever in the next exam period because of my maths T_T so I'll have plenty of time

  • I'm hoping to release sheet music some time -- I'm just in stress with school and such. But hey, I'd love to hear what you came up with~

  • Ah thanx a lot! And yeah I'm also pretty busy with school but playing the piano comes second xDD

  • uuhm my 2 vids ( dearly beloved and simple and clean aren't much of inspiring piano playing but I have an improv on riku's theme and I think it's really really good when it's up, mind if I ask you to check it out?

  • thats fucking raw. mad props

  • pretty good i think i have heard your title theme before

  • Lol yes, I could definitely see SNES in it... This was great! (.!_!.)

  • this video is mmmmmm

  • Tomohito Nishiura, the composer for the Professor Layton music, would be proud.

  • Thank you! And ah- good to find out who the composer is. Thanks!

  • For a musician like you, I should be thanking you.

  • I like Frostbite! I can really hear that "The Snow is Dancing" song by Debussy in Frostbite! XD Awesome composer, I wish I had some composing skills T.T

  • You are seriously one of the best musicians on YouTube! I wish I were as good as you. But I am not. You're really good at piano and composing! That was nice of you to write a soundtrack for a game of your friend's.

  • I like it Sebastian, keep composing, this is a great start. I like the SNES feel you're talking about, it's definitely there! BTW, Reason is a great program. I havent used it in a while, but I used to have a blast with it!

  • Cool! It fits perfectly to video games, well done! Five stars!

  • How beautiful it is!

  • Is it pronounced 'Q-izzies' or 'oy-zs' ??

This is a quest to find out what it is pronounced xD

  • Ozzie(oz-E)'s quest

  • haha.... the title theme is so catchy....

  • this is some nicely done stuff.

i'd love to do something like this, if only to play all of the instruments on the track.

  • this is some nicely done stuff.

  • Something is telling me you really put your feeling into downtown barricade. Maybe you would like to compose for KH3??

  • srry 4 double comment, but I was just wondering if he was going to use ILLUSION for bossfight. I would use it for a bossfight...

  • Would like to, yes. Ohhh, yes. But I'm not worthy ... and SquareEnix still doesn't know about me.

    Yet.

  • Hmm I find you more worthy than some of the composers they are using now... And we'll just spam square enix's mail with information about you till they check it out xD

  • hahahas they will ^.- ...you just need to meet and be friend with someone really famous...and have him introduce you to the world =D

  • Its all really good but you couldn't get away with putting midi in a published game haha.

I think you might need more "fast" songs for a video game though it really depends what type of video game it is

  • Well, the guy I made this for isn't employed by EA Games as composer (yet) - and he's still in college as a game design major. But I'm still in school as well, and I'm not even sure I'm going to pursue music professionally.

And hey, MIDI is more powerful than many think :D

  • yup midi rox

  • I love how the title theme changes to 3/4... and there is some percussion sounding thing playing on the off beats its so cool!

Windy peaks is very interesting! The melody could be catchier, but the chord changes are very awesome.

  • Woodlands was wicked awesome!! I loved the piano run going into the cool part XD. That part is my favorite thing I've heard so far. I'm already favoriting this ^.^

Barracade already sounds really intense, like someone's going to die. I really like it. It reminds of haibane renmei, and I loved the music in that anime. oOOO nice downward flute run in a different section XD I love your composing seb haha.

  • piano in the background for frostbite is sounding great. Good choice of instruments to get the cold feel btw. Do I hear glockenspiel?

  • Yes, you do hear glockenspiel! Barricade is a level with a spider as the opponent. The song gets reeaaally repetitive after about 10 runs. Illusion's my favorite, just because it isn't as musically stale as the other songs.

Windy peaks... I did that last, and ran out of time. So, it's a 16-measure (..I think) piece. Plus, the Windy Peaks level is shortest, so you don't get to hear the song more than twice :D

    Woo first composition!

  • I love it. :)

Oh and Yasunori Mitsuda may have composed the music to Professor Layton & the Curious Village, but I'm not 100% sure on that.

  • I like it. Keep up the great work!

  • nice :)

  • Nothing less than i would expect from GS. Good Luck and contonie (SPELL CHECK) your own quest to composing music

  • OMG YOU ALSO COMPOSE GREAT!!! Good job, I really saw a character running trough a game xD

  • great piano player and composer

  • cool dude

  • Woodlands reminds me of Final Fantasy X when Tidus is in the ruins I think. Just the beginning though.

  • Hm, yay! I'll just claim that as an Uematsu homage.

  • Great job bud. Sounds good for someone just starting out. I just started composing some more orchestral stuff recently, haven't finished anything yet though.

  • Hmm, I like it!!!! Very nice, the pan flute sounded pretty cool and mixed really well with the piano. ♥

  • this is awesome!! nice work!

  • ...

I'm currently composing for a game too though I'll be needing a help from a good composer too could you help me?

  • Sure! Let me know how I can help!

  • this is a nice OST O_O

  • ever think of making game music

  • professionally i mean

  • Thought about it, but I don't really have the experience or knowledge to do it. I'm still an amateur. Perhaps one day~

  • you could pull it off

  • Its been a while since i caught you looking at your own videos but this is the 3rd strike. :D

  • Wow game design! This is some great stuff, very catchy zelda/ff like

  • I really liked this. The Downtown Barricade one had an FFVII feel to it when the piano and strings came forward. Mysterious and drawing, just like all of Uematsu's work. Great job GermanSeabass. You always impress me with your stuff. It's nice to see you breaking out of piano playing and trying your hand at composing. Keep up the great job!

  • Thank you! I'll be getting back to the piano as soon as I find some time to 1. sleep, 2. eat. :D

Mm, school overload sure is fun.

  • Being a composer I'd be happy to criticise you, although there's very little to criticise if you wanted non-advanced SNES-sounding compositions - Great job!

Tomohito Nishiura is the primary Level 5 composer, so I suspect he also did the music for Professor Layton and the Curious Village, but I can't confirm that.

  • I say that - It's not exactly a compositional criticism, but the pan flute is far too loud in comparison with the rest of the instruments in Ending/Credits, and should be closer to the balance of the Title Theme. I'm probably pointing out the obvious to you, but you wanted criticism lol - They really are great compositions for game music!

  • Hm, listening to it again, the pan flute is rather loud. Ending Theme? Heh, yeah- I just got lazy, and it was Saturday and I was running out of time and energy at 3am. Most of Uematsu's music is a good example of what you described - just hinting the theme instead of plainly copying it.

    Thanks!

  • sounds awesome

really sounds like game music too

    good job

  • this does sound like game music

  • Sounds great! :)

  • I like it. It does have an SNES feel.

  • NIce. Though I do wish that you actually record yourself playing on video. That way, it would be more entertaining and attracting to others too.

  • Hmm, yeah- but I only play piano, not pan flute, cello, violin, sitar, or glocken. Oh, and I don't sing either :D

  • Wow....you are very inspiring to people attempting to start composing =D I feel like Im playing an old game by just listening to this XD Nice work, very.

  • Loved it all!

Especially The Title Theme and Illusion

This could definitely be worth purchasing in stores :) both soundtrack and collections

  • This was a nice one.

  • Great, as usual!

    -Duke

  • I didn't really find Woodlands "twangy", it sort of reminded me of some emo hippy music..

  • Hahah! Is it too fitting that I'm going to school in Santa Cruz?

  • Sebastian, I can see it now: Ozzie's Quest Piano Collections in stores now!

    Lol.

AND plus the original soundtrack. =P

Downtown Barricade's my favorite. But Woodlands is pretty cool too.

  • Sebastian, I can see it now: Ozzie's Quest Piano Collections in stores now!

    Lol.

AND plus the original soundtrack. =P

Downtown Barricade's my favorite. But Woodlands is pretty cool too.

  • I loved them. If I had to offer advice, I might say that the instrumentation for Woodlands didn't entirely fit. Keep in mind that instrumentational coloring is a vital tool in making a player feel like he is in the gaming environment. And I don't know what happens at the end of the game, but the credits didn't sound perticularly triumphant- something to consider if that is what you are aiming for.

  • True, Woodlands was odd, but the guy wanted a "twangy" feel to it. Since I didn't find Shamisen samples for Reason, I used a Sitar. Meh~

The credits.. heh. [I'm so cheap]. It's the same as the Title, transposed from C to D and with another piano track doing 16th notes arpeggios :D

    *fails*

  • Illusion: Now this is a song that will be heard on my Media Player quite often from now on! It's a really cool theme! I'd say, the best track of this soundtrack, but that's just my personal taste!

Ending/Credits: An 'alternate' version of the Title Theme? Has a nice Jazzy/Swingy touch to it!

    You're a great VGComposer! I'd rate this soundtrack overall a good 8/10!

  • Illusion's my favorite too. I didn't quite get the overly-excessively-cinematic-epic feel to it, but for a first "final boss battle" composition, I'm happy with it :)

  • Its Excellent 5 star

  • I have to say, I like it. Even though some of the instrumental choices are extraordinary on times (Sitar in Woodlands, anyone?)

The Title Theme is a tad to transitional for my liking. Yet, it's still a wonderful piece!

Frostbite: Saying this music is written to fit a mysterious (?!) cold place, I say it does what it needs to do, I wouldn't listen to it outside of a game though. It's just really one of those songs that could really get up into the atmosphere of that level.

    More on the way!

  • Yeah, Title Theme bothers me, but the entire project was done in a week, so it's too late for regrest :D

  • Definitely has a very strong SNES element to it - especially Woodlands and Frostbite.

The name had me thinking it was a Chrono Trigger composition so I got really excited!

But I wasn't dissapointed, this is really good! And some parts even have me thinking Chronor Trigger.

    You should do Schala's Theme .. :D

  • cool it is great i think like this guy

  • cool it is great i think like this guy

  • huhu

    echt schön :)

genau die richtige musik zum teetrinken mit freunden oder zum baden XD

oder halt einfach mal entspannen *froi*

    weiter so!

    lg Nadalya

  • It's very nice.

I think you should compose more :D
