I didn't like Min-sik in SMLV. I felt that Park was trying to convince us of the protagonist's goodness by making him truly despicable, and that he failed. I just wasn't convinced by the setup. And, to be frank, I found the scenes where children were tortured to be disgusting. They just went over the line a little bit.

I think that had to be shown, though. Otherwise, the viewer does not truly grasp the depravity of the one being brought to justice.

I found the end of SFLV very satisfying. And her custom-made North Korean pistol was awesome. lol

I take your point that there was reason for it to be shown, but I don't think the reason were sufficient. In other words, I wasn't convinced by him as a character. For example, he was a schoolteacher and presumably someone who would have been able to take a lot of people in. This never came across. It thus supposedly made it easier to sympathise with the protagonist, whom I nevertheless didn't find very sympathetic.
