@RFKFANTS67 totally, part of what makes this scene so sad, the false hope of the beautiful music, the promise of the ocean and the power of that enormous tanker and thinking they might be on your side.
This movie is still amazing to me. The way the song Amazing Grace is put in a movie in which all hope is dashed is somehow... I don't know how to describe it. Whenever I hear Amazing Grace, especially done by bagpipes, I can't help but think of a man thinking safety was within reach, only to find out it was not so and the woman he loved and tried to save would be gone forever.
Oh that music!..and the look on his face as the woman he loves just melts in his hands..and not the way I would want a woman to melt in my hands!..Leonard Nimoys acting is so good in this movie also...The best of the Bodysnatcher movies!
In 2005 They are HERE NOW. They are taking over healthcare, education...even the car companies and banks and student loans. They are democrats and RINO republicans.
@McNugget06 i actually didn't mind the 2003 version that much (it was better than the abel ferrara one, anyway) but yeah, it's nowhere near the 78 one, it's not even as good as the 50s one.
This is the best invasion movie...amazing...the filming during her investigating at the beggining was great...then this part w/ amazing grace...sends chills!!!
My brother and I just saw this film. I kind of like it, but he thinks it has slow pacing that teeters it near boredom, and just overall didn't find the film appealing. I don't think it's a masterpiece of anything, but I like it.
@berrypievision2 that's the 70s. for people used to modern movie pacing, movies in the 70s usually feel slow. it was just the style of the time, a lot of movies still modeled themselves after stage plays, which are typically very deliberate and talky.
if you look at lalalapie's profile at the bottom of the comments page there's a video called "war in iraq" that uses the exact same song to similar effect. i thought it was striking that it seems to be the exact same recording. it's very moving music.
Perhaps if whoever wrote this were the director of this film, we could have had a more happy ending!. The whole concept of the movie is everybody, regardless of what the situation is, is becoming a fucking pod person, no matter whether he leaves her for a moment or not. There is no escape. You dig this?
Yes I know how films work, thanks. I was just stating the position that we all feel when somebody does something like that in a film - "oh don't leave her there you idiot". I didn't carefully plan out what I wrote - this isn't a written publication, it's the internet where we can type pointless responses on the spur of the moment.
yeah, i feel the same thing every time i see this -- don't leave her there you fool! it's sorta like the cliche, "don't go in there, he's got a knife!" as viewers i think we're put in that position deliberately to more keenly feel the loss and the tragedy.
if you ever read "hamlet" or "romeo and juliet" there are a thousand times you want to wring the heroes' necks for their impulsiveness and stupidity. doesn't diminish the plays at all, it's part of what makes em work.
A real heart-rending clip from a truly great science fiction masterpiece. The rendering of Amazing Grace gives the atmosphere a grim premonition of approaching death, of hopes and dreams dashed for these two people who will never make it. Great acting by Mr. Sutherland and Ms. Adams. Movies like this will never be made these days. Thanks for posting.
Something about Amasing Grace, the Sea and great ships that go hand in hand

@highway234 Comparing the 2003 version to the 78 version is like comparing dog shit to the Mona Lisa.

@highway234 The pacing of modern films in the 50s, 60s, 70s allowed for contemplation and reflection.
