Kitting in ranger is so far easier than what you are showing here... playing as a lvl 23 Ranger and you aren't using the "forward arrow" at every jump shot you're doing =/ It greatly increse the time your kitting last.

@TYiFuZzo If you dont kite = you stay still so the mob will come to you and kill you. Kiting is a way of doing damage without taking any (or taking as little as possible)

Ok, so I just watched this... I don't really get the .... bonus of doing it. I suppose it's to get a continual forward movement modifier damage increase? I do that without jumping. I don't understand the reason for jumping. I do not use my mouse to move though, I use the forward and right strafe directional key which gives me a constant forward+strafing modifier, and obviously just stop for the moment to "cast" the stand still abilities. I just don't understand why to jump. Explain?

@Misstakeda I said the forward and right strafe directional, I mean the forward directional and "E" key for strafing. And use the left hand on the "E" key to perform my abilities.

Eh, I can't exactly say that i like your kiting technique, you use jump shot on animations that can be done while in motion, therefore making your kiting worse.

@1337sauce1337 I did this during launch week way back in September, so it's not perfect by any means, but it does illustrate the technique. I don't really jumpshot in pve anymore, but it has its uses in ground pvp.

how are you moving, exactly? using the right mouse button and then left to move? and if so, do you release the buttons when you jump? if i dont, it doesnt work - but on auto run it does work (using keyboard auto)

This is not what caused PvP to be bias towards ranged classes.

It was teh +29% attack speed and +24% move speed everyone got end-game...

i prefer the "click to run" option and press down my skill button and hold it until the shot is done. then i click, jump, press down wait until the shot is done and so on...

there are some skills you can activate while runnling like the "slow arrow" (don't know the english description)

do u have a macro for the autoshot? sometimes while shooting at a mob the autoshot just stop and i need to trigger der button again and again. do u have any ideas how to handle it?

Unlike stated in the video, autoshot does NOT make the jumpshot fail. You can jump, then before the apex use autoshot, and after use skill and it works.

You can also jump, use autoshot while in the jump and as the character lands and bends it's knees, then do the skill. It has the same effect. That's what I do and it never fails.

There's apparently also a way where you can press the skill button slightly BEFORE jumping, but I haven't managed to do that myself yet. Seen people do it though.

Srry to double post. Someone stated this is a bug that will be fixed in the future...NCSoft has stated repeatedly Ranger is functioning as it should and jumpshot is a functional mechanic not a bug. There may be plenty of other bugs needing fixes in this game, but jumpshot doesn't look like it will be being changed.

Someone asked so...reason this is important: to max dps. You cancel the attack animations making the skills do dmg instantly instead of after animation. While doing this u can autoattack btw skills (shot weaving) to increase dps even more. some rangers have told me that mastering these techs has doubled their dps output (maybe exagerrating but more dps is more dps)

Thanks a lot :) The good thing about rangers is, you can handle way more higher leveld opponents than mages: They resist when they attack 3-4 lvls higher. Im lvl 25 atm, with full, blue, +10 gear with a 6% godstone on my wep (I know, it's a waste :p) but I downed a lvl 33 sorc and 32 SM :p <3 Rangers ftw. Sins are the most fun for rifting though :o

i lag... about 400ms ping on average... for people with my same problem... yeah this jumpshot technique tends not to work, though it works for all my friends who play with much better systems. for people with lag like mine, if you take a tiny pause and use your skill. immediately after pressing your skill button, press the space bar while moving in the desired direction. you will get the same movement speed, although the skill anim. is still shown, which causes for a slight pause after you jump.

i felt like i didnt explain the end of that explanation too well. so basically, you will jump immediately after casting your skill, so the skill starts in the middle of your jump. there will be a short pause immediately as you land, but it wont hinder your kiting so long as you have the mob slowed. works for me, i kill 35+ of most classes at lvl 30... but not sm's or clerics of course.

Jumpshot > Weaving in my opinion

I've done a lot of testing between the two and jump shot has won it for me

Jump shooting allows you to gain ground AWAY from the monster, while using a skill

Weaving keeps you in one spot, putting you at risk. It IS easy to avoid attacks but sometimes we'll get cocky and try to squeeze an extra skill before we move which can end up badly. If you've kited elites before, you'll know what I mean. All this applies even worse to PVP

Jump shooting also gets your skills out faster compared to weaving so you can get outta there faster, autoattack and repeat.

As well there's the damage buffer. Constantly moving forward with the jump shots gives you 10% damage to everything whereas weaving puts you in one spot. If you're jump weaving, that's fine but slower output of skills

Jumpshot is better in the lower levels. Weaving is better when you get higher attack speed, more runspeed, and harder hitting autoshots in the late game.

I just have one problem. I'm a fresh lvl 10 ranger and I'm having trouble with mobs resetting in mid-combat and gaining full health. I don't even run very far and this happens about 80% of the time. Is this simply a d-bag mob or is there a principle I'm missing? Thanks =D

You need to make sure you don't stop hitting the mob for too long or it will reset. Don't forget to use your auto attacks between skills.

Because if you dont jumpshot you have to wait 1-2 seconds for the shot to go off before you can move again, and you lose the forward movement modifier damage bonus. You dont have to do it to kite, but it helps a decent bit.

Yet another thing that needs to be fixed. I beg to ask do the Koreans care at all? Why does it take a NA/EU launch for stuff to start getting fixed like simple things as UI, and only rangers being able to bypass the animation lock. This reminds me of BW's in warhammer skipping their GCD and flattening people. While this may seem fun in PVE in PVP this poses an issue to other classes being almost insta killed. I've just bought Aion and have got a low level ranger, and this guide does help. However I find its stupid that you have to spend so much time kiting and jumping around just to kill 1 mob!! After 10 mobs I'll be annoyed.. After 50 mobs I'll be pretty fedup of whacking the space bar.. After 100 mobs I'll be using my head on the space bar!

You can do Arrow Strike while moving, thus letting you be able to use the full Forward modifier to your advantage and not have a chance to fail the jumpshot.
