@hodst3 Thats what most fighting in ww1 was like, most soldiers were issued bolt action rifles and bayonets and had to rush against interlocking fire from machine guns under artillery and rifle fire. In the Civil War they had to do it many times with muzzleloaders as there was allot of attacking fortified positions and trenches in the Civil War aswell.

You try and tell that to someone who had no choice but to kill or be killed. Do you know what kind of damage that would do to someone? To tell them that they MURDERED someone and that they had NO right to defend themself? That is a STUPID statement. You need to rethink it.

@gat0rbball actually, homicide, genocide, suicide, infanticide, femicide, etcare all technically murder. It may be classified as self defense, but it is still murder....justified murder, yes. If I defended myself against an attack it is still an assault that I committed, albeit justified, but the definition doesn't change. You need to rethink that.

@pillowbugg I don't even remember my post, but I will say that MURDER is the unlawful killing with malice aforethought. That little clause "with malice aforethought" distinguishes it from any other form of killing.

The mechanics of it vary greatly in ways far too great to go into detail with. There's plenty of articles, reports and even footage of shootings on the internet that can do a better job anyway. Just bear in mind that bullets merely punch holes to one extent or another and that people react in different ways if not stunned/killed instantly (often not).

The most powerful bit of writing ever about WW1 is the original translation of ''All Quiet on the Western Front'' written by a survivor, it is just superb.British authors too wrote good accounts, but ''all Quiet'' just says all that needs to be said.

The part where horses are terribly wounded by British bombardment is probably what prompted the book/play ''War Horse''. The sacrifices on all fronts was appalling.

@pillowbugg Women DID outnumber men massively after both Wars...it took a long while for a new generation of men mature up, then these were put into WW2..there were books written about it, women who never married, and there simply weren't enough men around..only the very young and old were left! It was a tragedy for them, too, denied the opportunity to have a marriage/children in very conventional times.
