@bahbond - you are playing in the key of E flat here. (you are tuned halfway between low D and E) ;)
I usually tune my gourd to either E or F. -gourd banjos are not made to be able to hold the same high tension as regular banjos that we tune to standard G and A. Always tune them 1-3 steps below normal banjo tunings.
When not playing it, turn the bridge down flat- otherwise the skinhead will develop a permanent depression in the middle and the string action will become too low.
That's awsome, a really great sounding banjo. I'm seriously thinking about making one. That's exactly the sound that I'm looking for. What did you use for a skin and where did you get it? Great job with The Cuckoo too.
Great version and so is the sound of that banjo! I don't know if it my eyes that play tricks on me but it looks like the head of the banjo has melted lol. Looks really cool :) 5 stars!
Awesome sounding first banjo!! I'm currently gathering knowledge/parts to make one of my own over break!
What type of strings did you use? Did you use calf-skin for the head? What diameter gourd did you use? (looks about 11")

Great sounding gourd banjo- you did a grea job building it and playing it!
I have a Menzies gourd banjer. They sound so good in low E and F tunings.
You should put up some more gourd clips- sounds totally yummy.

Hey Bahbond. Great sound! What tuning do you use?

@thelastamericancowbo Modal tuning, not sure of the actual key, as it is tough to tune up to standard!

Very nice. Some if the best fretless playing I've ever heard!

How this gets only 332 view saddens me. You performed the song top notch, and the banjo is sweet and authentic. Well done!

I got the calfskin from Janet Davis Music online, or Stewart McDonald. I don't remember which one, it took a couple tries! Thanks for the comment.

nice banjer! ..and I would think most folks could take at least 30 seconds of the gourd banjo.
