@laflinslim "The pinto was one of the worst cars ever? Well I had a 1980 pinto. Drove it hard for a lot of years. Never let me down, until I was rearended by a little old lady, and it burst into flames."
The Pinto itself wasn't a "bad car," it was just that they designed it badly by putting the gas tank too far in the rear of the car. And it tended to explode easily.
Yeah, the Vega was not a bad looking car at all! Pull that POS 4 banger out and drop in a SBC and do a few suspension mods, upgrade the brakes, etc... you got yerself a fine automobile... it's what Chevy SHOULD have done... a baby Camaro.
the Olds was a good car unless it had a diesel engine. Your entitled to your opinion, but i dont think you know jack shit about cars except for what other people tell you.
The Pinto on the otherhand used drivetrain parts that had been developed and used in England and Germany for years, so they had a track record. The Pinto 1600 was used in formula Ford racing and several hi-performance european cars used the 1600 with a Lotus twin cam head. It also one of the first american cars to use rack and pinion steering.I loved to see how fast I could get my Pinto down a very twisty section of road.
Now you've done it! I'm going to have to go find me a Pinto to play with!
I was a mechanic in the early 1970s. Overheat or let the oil in a Vega get down once and you had scrap metal in the engine compartment. As Delorean said, the engine was designed by commitee and rushed into production. Transmissions were terrinle and the bodies would rust out while sitting on the lot. One dealer I worked at had a panel wagon Vega sitting on the lot for a year and a half. It went through 2 sets of fenders while sitting there!!
@hotwheelsbob2000 HA HA HA On the other hand, I ran the slant 6 in my Plymouth Duster out of water twice until it seized from heat. .....cooled it off, filled it back up with (plain water gleaned from the ice cubes in my beer cooler) and drove it for 5 more years. ....don't ever remember changing the oil....
1973 Pinto continued: The car had a wonderful manual transmission that shifted like butter also(at least mine did).
The downsides were that the engine bolts were metric and the body bolts were English, so you had to guess at which tool to use. The spare tire stuck up behind the back seat so you couldn't set anything flat on it. The seats got uncomfortable on long trips and the engine rocked at idle and wore out lots of exhaust manifold gaskets...but that may have been due to bad motor mounts.
I had a 1973 Pinto hatchback with a 2 liter engine . It had incredible steering, awesome gas mileage, The engine was very reliable, and parts were inexpensive. My car, being a hatchback, with the back seat down and the front seat tipped forward, I could get a six foot ladder in that thing with the hatch closed. The gas tank explosion problem was fixed with a $12 piece of plastic. Not hardly enough to Merritt this as a Worst Car Of All Time. I even camped in this car.
Wow, know your shit before you make a video like this. Thats not only a fullsized bronco but the bronco 2 was produced from 1984 to 1990 so 1983?? and i've owned two of them that were fuckin awesome dependable vehicles.
fiat strada- looks like they put flashlights where the headlights should be ford bronco 2 - even though im a chevy fan broncos aint that bad ford edsel - looks like a car you take a girl out on the date ford pinto - aint a bad looking car to be the first of its kind ( hatchback)
I can understand the rating on the Pacer, even though the car was reliable. I once had the cops called on me for racing through the neighborhood in a Trabant after doing 22 in a 30, so I have an odd love of them. The Yugo was ok after replacing the timing belt with a Fiat timing belt, and much better in the snow than a VW Bug.
What I need is an AMC Sportabout for converting to all electric.
You hit the nail on the head. Ever notice in these 10 worst lists which country represents the most worst cars? The U.S.Thats saying something.I'de rather have the Trabant than some of the American cars on this list
I don't understand the SM in this list of worst cars, either.
And about the Trabant I don't understand why the early ones are picked on. In the fifties the Trabant was at least remotely competitive with Western small cars - the further they went on building it the larger the gap grew.
i have a 89 b2 i just replaced the engine with 330,000+ miles on it deff not one of the worst i also get 25mpg, can drive thru 2 feet of snow and not freeze my balls of like in a jeep...
He is an idiot and has no respect for automotive history and i don't understand why he put most of those cars up their. The ford bronco is not a good choice of car to insult, ford has had the best trucks in the world over all and that is a fact. Id like to know if this dumb ass knows anything at all about cars.
@kqr573v2 where are you from? it looks like you haven´t ever seen some east eauropean car. Cars built there maybe werent fast or nice, but it was the only cars which east europeans knew. and they were so fuckin reliable.and they also did more than mile per one gallon.
Strange ... some of these cars are iconic in terms of their place in movies, their time and culture. I cant see how they are the worst ~ look at the cold war cars from East Europe.
The 78' Honda Accord was great! I actually had an 81' Civic station wagon that had a red interior. I bought several cans of avocado green appliance spray paint from Odd Lots and painted it. Appliance paint is great for cars...looked like a watermelon, but drove it for 300,000 miles with only 4 of the 5 gears working. When it finally went to the junk yard with a bad transmission it was still running like new.
@paulj0557 in reguards for your choice of paint its actually a high quality compound its made with acrylic and percelain .. I also had a 1980 accord sold it with 352,000 miles on it for scrap metal the core support rotted from rust and the lateral bar rusted into 2 peices . engine ran wonderful when i sold it
this guy really is an idiot... and doesnt know cars, pintos in fact have one of the most efficient reliable engines made in the united states, that 2.3L engine has been manufactured for decades and placed into various vehicles and in one ASU project reached 600hp on natural aspiration... you could never achieve that power/weight ratio on a V8 without forced induction
Consumer Reports LOVED the 1984 Oldsmobile. They are great. I still own an 84 Oldsmobile now with 130,000 miles. I have had five of these and usually sell them when they are over 250,000 miles. GREAT CARS........ but I liked your video.
the 84 fiero was fine. pintos were decent but there was a case about them getting rear ended and the car catching fire. Ford had an inside letter that said wed rather let people burn than lose profit money
pinto no. bronco no. hade pinto 302 auto 12:00 sec quarter mile. hade a brongo to. like the man said keep the oil changed and they last forever. ps ya you are a stupid.kid
@justedsuper I agree, the guy who made this list is stupid. But please, for the love of God, learn how to spell HAD before you go calling other people stupid.
In fact, in these days when speedlimits and the law is as it is, I rather own some sort of anti-status cult-classic car than the average italian supercar.
i know how to make the pinto safer, just drain the gas and take the gas tank off the back, put it underneath the car and surround it with reinforced steel bars :D
unless you can say you know the real history of the ford pinto, you shouldn't believe all of the old jokes. let's just say when the pinto first came out it was a great car.
Chrysler K-cars such as the Reliant. Dodge/Chrysler Aspen/Volare. Basically the 80's were a general crapfest for the american sh*t cars. Detroit deserved what it got.
the mazda rx2 was a great little car! I had one, and it was great!! The rotary engine was the size of a 4 banger, but performed better. The v8's could pull away. But I could out corner any v8. The only negative thing I have to say was the gas milage wan't great. this is the reason they got bad reputations. It was the 70's when the gas crunch hit. I loved my rx2 and will say it's a great car!!!!!!
The Edsel wasn't THAT bad. I think it received a rather unfair bad rap. Let's face it, all cars of that era had reliability problems.. it was the state of technology. My '59 DeSoto didn't like the -26F temps one winter morning and the oil sump pump shaft broke when I started the engine. I do miss that car though.. gotta love tailfins!
Good to see an American list that bothered to look beyond what's in their backyard. You did nail two of the biggest stinkers, the Trabant and the Edsel. The Accord doesn't really belong on the list because of its reliability. Although if you want weird and shocking, look up "Reliant Robin", "Lightburn Zeta" "Nash Metropolitan." Australia's Edsel was a car known as the EA Falcon; not because it was ugly, but because everything that could go wrong, did
You re a real dumb ass. I've owned many of these cars in the past and found most all of them to be very dependable. If you don't change the oil and run the hell out of a Ferrari it will be a piece of shit too. Get your facts straight before you show the world how stupid you are.
You have several cars here that were very good, just not marketed well. I had an AMC Pacer station wagon for years. It was one of the most dependable cars I ever had. I regret getting rid of it to this day. I have a Bronco II and really like it. Renault Daphine was a good car that was ahead of its time for the US. The only really bad car I saw was the Yugo, and it served the purpose it was intended for - a cheap, throw away car.
this clown that make this is ony partially right.. can't say I know enought o comment on some of these... love how just certain years of travants and yugo's like there were good years... No honda or Jappo's were bad enough to be on this list, yes, chevette, should be here...GM can never live down the Vega.. and the other junk they produced in the 70's into the 80's..
How could you create a list of the worst cars and not include the Mustang II. Ford emasculated the Mustang and made it into a 4 cyl. econobox. You didn't see Chevrolet making 4 cyl. Cameros or Corvettes just because of the "energy crisis" of the 70's.

The only negative thing I have to say was the gas milage wan't great. this is the reason they got bad reputations. It was the 70's when the gas crunch hit. I loved my rx2 and will say it's a great car!!!!!!

Hey! I took my drivers test on a '58 Edsel. My father collected 14 of them (he knew they would be collectors items.)
Where's the IH Scout 2? Worst vehicle I ever owned. Couldn't move it until the engine warmed up and had to replace the spark plugs every 2000 miles.

@RamonPreston international scouts are awsome!! and edsels are ugly ps fords suck

i think you should add "Toyota Avanza" "Toyota Hilux Vigo 4*2" "Cherry QQ" "Proton Savvy" and "Sangyong Starvic" to the list
and why Pontiac Fiero is one of the worst car?

PINTO FTW
Garfield36900 2 months ago
The Edsel wasn't THAT bad. I think it received a rather unfair bad rap. Let's face it, all cars of that era had reliability problems.. it was the state of technology. My '59 DeSoto didn't like the -26F temps one winter morning and the oil sump pump shaft broke when I started the engine. I do miss that car though.. gotta love tailfins!

I think I'm going to make a top 10 worst "worst list" this one will be featured in it.

Good to see an American list that bothered to look beyond what's in their backyard. You did nail two of the biggest stinkers, the Trabant and the Edsel. The Accord doesn't really belong on the list because of its reliability. Although if you want weird and shocking, look up "Reliant Robin", "Lightburn Zeta" "Nash Metropolitan." Australia's Edsel was a car known as the EA Falcon; not because it was ugly, but because everything that could go wrong, did

why is there only one honda on this list, every honda should be on this list

@Henningfest Well, only one classic to be fair - the Citroen/Maserati SM.
SuperPrivate2011 3 months ago
You re a real dumb ass. I've owned many of these cars in the past and found most all of them to be very dependable. If you don't change the oil and run the hell out of a Ferrari it will be a piece of shit too. Get your facts straight before you show the world how stupid you are.

dude, you accidentally put a honda in there. you should fix that.

The only really bad car I saw was the Yugo, and it served the purpose it was intended for - a cheap, throw away car.
leebirdwell 3 months ago
The Yugo belongs in a class all by itself.

DRCRUE1313 3 months ago
Worst in what way? Fuel efficiency? I'm sure they're all terrible but probably no worse than nearly all cars NOT on that list.
Safety? Maintenance?
Seriously - I don't know.
The manufacture of gas-powered cars should have been banned in 1990 and mandate electric-cars only. It's the only way to survive peak oil.
mphello 3 months ago
why there is no LADA?

I have Yugo, the car is not bad in general,It's cheap and great on the gas :)
Twiki1989 3 months ago 2
this clown that make this is ony partially right.. can't say I know enought o comment on some of these... love how just certain years of travants and yugo's like there were good years...
