Thats a cool clip you have made there , really like it . I have been here on a few different occasions but have never spotted that seclusion cell with the mirrors , any chance you could point me in the right direction of it as i will do another trip there just to get a shot of it . There is a link to all my shots on my channel . Thanks
I'm sorry if I misled; you're quite correct; that image wasn't taken by me. If you can provide me with certifiable details I'm more than happy to credit to you, or to remove that specific image.
"Insane Asylum" is a term only really used in the U.S., the UK psychiatric hospitals that are still standing today such as sevs would have first been constructed as "County Asylums" (the Second Essex County Asylum built in 1910 in the case of Severalls), then usually wen't through name changes as attitudes changed. Later the place was renamed Severalls Mental Hospital, then finally just Severalls Hospital. Oh and the "cells" you speak of are actually seclusion rooms. Sorry to be pedantic :P
We specialise in a technique, we call block heaving. Basically we find a heavy lump of concrete two or three of us can carry. Then we run at a door or partition wall, letting go of the block and "heaving" it at the door. It usually smashes straight through the door or wall creating a tremendous amount of damage, accompanied by much laughter!
We also use the same concept to break up wooden stairs or burst holes in floors. There's quite an art in using materials on site to create maximum damage.
nah just passed the open ward, is a wood theres a little shed where the underground tunnels havn't been locked, go through them come out and you're smack in the middle of the yard.
We have lots of memories of Severalls. To be honest we smashed the the hell out of the place about 2002-2006. There's still lots of sinks, toilets there to be smashed if anyone fancies a vist.
Our urbex group stopped smashing stuff there about 2006 though. We've moved on to break up other places.
i work at sevs and see how its fallen in to a state.... and to read the posts of this breed of people who brag about smashing buildings up and flooding them what the fuck are you about??? i grew out of that shit when i turned 10 or 11... sevs is a massive part of colchester history be it good or bad...not all things were harsh or abusive to the people who lived there! ask the patients if they are happy now...being isolated in private homes and cut off from their friends...is that progress???
Yes we are urban explorers. Some buildings we explore and do not damage. Other crap buildings we exercise our urban exterminator role. By blocking valley gutters we cause the rain water to overflow inside the building. Or we break an internal downpipe and arrange it so the water cascades over the floors. This causes the whole building to start rotting within just one or two years. The water does all the work. Not too much smashing required.
We explore some buildings. For buildings of merit we don't disturb them. For other buildings we are the urban executioners. We burst holes in the roof allowing the water to decay the building. We make holes at the low points of valley gutters, thus ensuring massive water entry. And we smash everything inside, thus sealing the fate of the building. Yes Janpuk, we are the knights of the urbex world. We have the power to record or to destroy. We know far more about urbex than you might imagine.
No, actually we are urban explorers. We explore a lot of old abandoned buildings and smash the shit out of the insides. What you don't realise is that all these places are going to get demolished anyway, so we are doing the authorities a favour by giving them a head start.
Me and my mate are urban explorers. We've been to Severalls quite a lot and busted the crap out of quite a bit of stuff. It's a great place for kicking doors off their hinges, heaving blocks through partition walls, and smashing up sinks
15 hours is a long time. Did it have an effect on you afterwards, like dreams, depression? I have found that from some places. And you just KNOW I have to ask... will you be showing us the other parts of it?
I live vicariously through ya'll in urbanex. This is great footage, absolutely (no disrespect meant to the people who lived there) drool-worthy. How long did you stay in?

The problem with places like this is that you might not go in that insane, but it'd sure turn you insane enough.

I'm probably not giving much away to say find a hole under the perimeter fence or dig a fresh one in a secluded corner.
Once you are in, the corridor network keeps you out of sight. You don't need to move outside the buildings too much.

If you can work out a way to get in, avoid any security and stay there as long as you can, yes!

Interesting, I have explored here a few times.
It was opened in 1913 and closed in 1997 btw.
