One of the things that makes Alanis' soo amazing is the pure raw passion she has for her music and for LIFE..and that is sooo amazing. I just love her!
Please be philosophical Please be tapped into your femininity Please be able to take the wheel from me Please be crazy and curious Papa love your princess so that she will find loving princes familiar Papa cry for your princess so that she will find gentle princes familiar Please be a sexaholic Please be unpredictably miserable Please be self absorbed much (not the good kind) Please be addicted to some substance Papa listen to your princess so that she will find attentive princes familiar...

TLDR I don't need Nicki Minaj to make me happy o3o
this is not live... you can see at 1:02 (gentle princes familiar) her lips say something different. anyways, this is the best alanis' song. she's sooo sweet
it's so nice that alanis keep true her own scence.... not as shakira does nowadays. i remember the comparissons between theese 2 artists, when shakira used to sing deep songs like this one
Yes, I DO love this wonderful song. @ apontador123 you're right... this songs speaks about TRUE love and I find it so poetic... Alanis Morissette is such a talented singer-songwriter...

@esriful She is singing how the girls just want to find men ('princes') like their fathers: Sex-o-holic, philosophical, addicted to some substance. So fathers should take care of their daughters and be a role-model so they find good men (loving princes familiars, gentle princes ect.).
@SEORGJSGE like the way u think!! Alanis is pretty much one who writes about how I am feeling, how I have been treated, and how I look at my growing up and all the relationships and friendships I have had or have!!! She is my hero and idol! I am only four months and 18 days younger than her, both of us born in 1974!! I am very honored to share that with her!
@debfan74 I agree...she takes ways that I feel or have felt and puts them into words when I can't. It's something that she never fails to do...She is a lyrical genius, and not understood by enough people in my opinion.
Please be strangely enigmatic, please be just like my... Alanis te amo como no tienes idea!!! I truly loved this song since the first time I heard it. Lyrics r totally outstanding and the melody just lets u flow in a better inner ideal world. Actually, she was my inspiritation to start writing and it went so well that I became a Spanish teacher and study literature at college. And am only 22 lolz! Thanx Alanis!!!
The thing I love most about Alanis' music is the fact that no matter how sad you are, she can bring a smile to your face. Some people think her music is depressing, but I think it's real. You can feel every note she sings, and she never felt she would be 1/100th as successful as she became. First and foremost, she wanted to express herself through her music. If people bought and liked her music, that was icing on the cake.
Amen to that. And I totally agree with your bit about her music bringing a smile to your face. I mean, I've had countless days where her songs have popped up on the shuffle playlist on my ipod. . .and I instantly have felt. . .good after I've heard her song. .whatever song it may be. Her music is genuine. . .and she is real.
I'm glad that someone feels the same way about her music that I do. What's strange about your comment (not really strange, but coincidental) is the fact that I was listening to this song with you as you responded to my comment. To quote Alanis, "Isn't it Ironic? Don't you think?" ;)
<3 "It's like rain on your wedding day. It's a free ride when you've already paid. It's the good advice that just didn't take. And who would've thought it figured!!" fantastic. I think this just made my day. LoL
so say when the song goes " Papa respect your princess so that she will find respectful princes familiar," understand it to mean "Father respect your daughter so that she will be able to distinguish respectful men. hope this helps. :0)
I thought it was meant in the metaphorical sense, that a daughter will look for a husband that bares a resemblance to the way her father is toward her.
stop: this is the best lyric from Alanis! A good song, a good lyric and a good performance. she's a great singer as i've never seen just because she's touchable!
there's something wrong.. in first chorus, when she sings '..so that she will find GENTLE princes familiar...', in the video she sings '..so that she will find LOVING princes familiar...'
Prince, as in male, princes as in more than on/plural. She is talking about how the kings should talk to their sons (padre a hijo, si habla espanol) and how she wants her man to be. How the prince should be raised.

Women tend to be attracted to men who remind them of their fathers. I took the song to be encouraging fathers to be the kind of men they'd want their daughters to marry - gentle, loving, curious, flawed on a reasonable level, etc. The last line is kind of Alanis' wish that her own "prince" would be just like her own father.
