The thing I love most about Alanis' music is the fact that no matter how sad you are, she can bring a smile to your face. Some people think her music is depressing, but I think it's real. You can feel every note she sings, and she never felt she would be 1/100th as successful as she became. First and foremost, she wanted to express herself through her music. If people bought and liked her music, that was icing on the cake.

so say when the song goes " Papa respect your princess so that she will find respectful princes familiar," understand it to mean "Father respect your daughter so that she will be able to distinguish respectful men. hope this helps. :0)
