her playing literally brings tears to my eyes. especially this song. she has more spirit passion in her fingertips than most people have throughout their whole body after a lifetime of searching.for it.
There is nothing more I want right now than to see her perform live.
Actually that's a lie, there is one thing I want more - for everyone else to see her perform live. Everyone who has never heard of Hiromi, and everyone who refuses to listen to jazz simply because it's jazz. Everyone should experience this, and it makes me a little sad that not everyone will.
i thought jazz is based on the music, not the organization of the melody, jazz is feeling the flow of the music, classical is organized and thats what separates the twp but i love them both
@applejus1 Jazz is also incredibly organised, it's just improvised stuff is organised in a split second. Are you trying to say the big band music isn't organised? In classical it can take up to 3 months to write a moment of music, in jazz it takes a moment to write a moment of music (a quote from Bill Evans)
for example from 3:30 to 3:45 she plays about 24 times ! same 4 notes pattern. You feel like the CD has blocked and repeating same notes. Also her phrases lack a lot of fantasy in developing melodies.
@AkaMouTinn well i think thats exactly what makes it cool :) She lets the pattern work over the chords... it builds up tension untill she releases the tension in another phrase. But nvm everyone has a different taste.. For me she stays brilliant :). Greets
this is the only one that really has good touch. Hiromi has great technique but must learn to organize and develop it in deeper melodic variations. Not just simple scales. Some times i feel i am listening to Jazz Czerny. This song is an exemption.
From the very first note to the last one, there is a striking musicality, a never-ending inspiration; everything is deeply felt, thought, and easily communicated to our soul.
She is an angel who had the good idea to come down on earth, and the excellent drums and bass players are in perfect harmony with her.
JE SUIS ABSOLUMENT FAN!!! Sensibilité, virtuosité, amusement, groove, innovation, tradition, NRJ, beauté, équilibre, .... IL Y A TOUT CE QUE J'AIME!!!
Technically, this playing isn't phenomenally difficult. I mean, if you compare it to Liszt or Kapustin or something. You could become this good even if you took up piano late in life; although where you'd find the time if you had a job and so on (kids have so much time to practice!) I don't know. What makes this exceptional, if anything, is the soul, which is less like something you can teach. (But it's probably not totally unteachable.)
@cricrousofia tons of people are techinically capable of learning this, probably even I would, but her greatness is that it would take me months of practice, and she's capable of improvising in the high technique level, or in other words, she can apply what she learned on the piano to her feelings and she has no borders and she plays whatever she wants :-D
@JamesCamien This also isn't the most difficult thing I've seen her do. Watch her attention here... there's spots where she's more into what everyone else is doing. She could play this song and do both of our tax returns at the same time. Ok, I'll be real, in 8 minutes she could START our tax returns. I started playing piano at a very young age, and I'm not sure I could become this good. With dedicated practice and a gun to my head, I could play 1/4 of Hiromi's stuff 1/4 as well as she plays it.
@neimaD11 actually with lots of practice, it can be attained. theres nothing supernatural or mystical about it. she had excellent teachers and hours and hours of practice a day.
@Peabody6517 It's not supernatural of course, but you do need to be born with a predisposition. Few people could ever be this good, especially when it comes to live improvisation; great musicians (like Ms. Uehara) just have amazing, musically-oriented minds constantly flowing with creativity. That's unfortunately not something you can learn. :(
@ZMcKowen You have to be born with a gift, I agree, but you can still learn to get creative, and have LOTS of fun with that. But to get THIS good you have to be born with a freakin piano in your hands :P
@ZMcKowen You have to be born with a gift, I agree, but you can still learn to get creative, and have LOTS of fun with that. But to get THIS good you have to be born with a freakin piano in your hands :P
