This has always been and continues to be one of my all-time favorite Archies' tunes! I could listen to its beautifully crafted melody and harmonies over and over, and NEVER get tired of it. As a matter of fact, that's exactly what I do when I'm listening to my Archies records! Just hearing this lovely song only once is never enough for me-I have to hear it two, three, four times in a row!
I LOVE Ron Dante's mellow voice, and I love the story the song tells! Thanks for posting it!
Watching these segments bring back the old memories from The Archie Show. I was 13 and in junior high school back then--right near the time I gave up watching cartoons to be more "mature." Now I can claim I'm in my senile "second childhood" stage. Works for me.
@wainoco318 Actually, I prefer watching them again as an adult, because now I can enjoy them again, AND see things that I wasn't looking for as a kid... the quality of the animation, the over-use of stock animation, the excitement of finding "new" animation that was not previously used in an episode, etc.
I had this song on a record cut out from the back of a cereal box. I loved it as a kid and it still strikes me as some pretty good bubblegum pop today!
@beedwarf "The Archie Show" from 1968/69, and "Archie's Funhouse" from 1970/71 are both available in complete series DVD boxsets from Genius Products. "The Archie Comedy Hour" from 1969/70 is not available in its original form, however, the Sabrina skits from it are available in a Sabrina DVD boxset, also from Genius Products, and a lot of the other material from "Comedy Hour" is available in the "Archie's Funhouse" boxset as BONUS material.
This is one of my favorite Archies songs. When I was 16 years old, the Archies TV cartoon series and first LP (The Archies) appeared. I even looked like Archie Andrews; red hair, freckles, beginning to learn to play guitar. But, since I wanted to have been born a girl, I imitated Betty Cooper in her tamborine playing. To this day, I'll throw in an Archies CD, grad my tamborine, and do "The Betty". I have a very thin waistline because of this.
Thanks Windsorbear, I use to have this song on one of those records you cut out off the back of the Super Sugar Crisp cereal box! I also had Jingle Jangle and Nursery Rhyme! I loved those songs!
I've got the "Jingle Jangle" video online here. However, the "Nursery Rhyme" video is "missing in action".... one of the missing song segments from The Archie Comedy Hour. Nobody seems to know what happened to them as they were not in the Filmation archives as purchased by Entertainment Rights / ClassicMedia. Hopefully they will turn up someday. I remember that "Nursery Rhyme" had a great video and a different intro than what was on the track on the "Jingle Jangle" album.
u know what odd some times when here the person singin reminds me of the banana splots songs u heard in 1969 .....did ron dante do some writin for bananna splits also i know ritchie adams did alot to
You got it... wish my copy had better color. The version in the DVD boxset has excellent color... if only there was some way to slow it down to correct speed and correct pitch.
beside likin the original alvin show i sure enjoyed the archies man i feel old do u all.....13 when last saw in 1970 and pass till 1972....I watch my late brother oh man did i get teased alot watchin
The comc books had Archie as Hot Dog's owner at first... then the later comic books showed Jughead as the owner. Pets came and went in the Archie comics. For a while, Betty had a cat named Caramel. Veronica had several dogs and cats.... depending on which story you were reading. In comics from the 40's, Jughead had a cat. At one time in the 70's, Archie had a pet skunk.
cool. I remember waking up to watch the archies every Saturday in the 60's!!

I'd forgotten this song from my childhood, and yet I still knew most of the words, 30 years on. Awesome song.

@youngishpete Always said that this would have been a top 20 single if released. It is just a great "feel good" song.

I just found out that Ritchie Adams and Mark Barkan have credits for some of the Banana Splits songs. They also wrote a lot of the Archies stuff.

I don't think Ron did anything for the Banana Splits.

well, i think you might have to convert your dvd to avi or mpeg, then, if you know Sony Vegas, you can edit the picture, audio and all on it.
