The name Goku comes from a famouse Japanese book written very very long ago. Both Goku form Dragon Ball Z and the Goku from Saiyuki are based off the character from that famouse story.

Actually the reason for that is because both Dragon Ball and Saiyuki are both based off of the same Chinese legend "Journey to the West" (A.K.A Monkey). Saiyuki is more similar to the actual though. But is still, of course, has its differences.
