I love this scene because it shows somewhat subtly what a strong lioness Sarabi is. Just little things like the way she walks fearlessly past the hyenas, and how she is unafraid of Scar, even after 2-3 years.

The herds have moved on."---to openly challenging---"Then you have sentenced us to death!"---and confrontational---"You can't do that!"

Very telling how she seems to accept the grim circumstances, and then only takes offense to the situation when Scar is willing to accept them as well.

My parents are more of less like this in which my mom has a hard time communicating with my dad and the way he thinks because of probably how he was culturally raised.

@Hypeathon Oh, totally. In other words, Sarabi coldly accepts the devastation, but is outraged at Scar's own defiant abuse of the kingship. I just love the attitude-reversal. It happens so quickly and perfectly demonstrates the tension here.

And hell yes it does. The characters are ultimately wild animals, but they all have distinct personalities and some have fascinating relationships with one another. Very reminiscent of Watership Down (if you happen to have ever read/watched it).

I think that realization was dawning on him that he wasn't a good ruler, it's not as easy as it looks, Mufasa was better, and that he had killed his own brother and supposedly his nephew in vain. He denies it saying that he was "Ten times the king Mufasa was", therefore the freakout when he sees Simba, thinking that it was Mufasa seeking revenge.

I lost my last ounce of respect for Scar when he struck Sarabi. I had been slowly losing it after the "Be Prepared" sequence, the murder of Mufasa, the attempted murder of Simba, and his overtaking the Pride Lands, but there was something about that specific moment that made it so I could no longer "hang" with his scheming anymore. He really did hit rock bottom, at that point, IMO.
