  • Frankie says!!

  • President Ronald Reagan would have kicked Konstantin Chernenko ass!

  • This is one totally awesome song to come out in the 80's! It is just a cool song and the video! Man alive! I have to say the right idea is here in this video. Let's put our armchair warriors meaning the President's who have a problem with each other into a ring and let them just duke it out the old fashioned way instead of hiding in the comforts of their palace's while our soldiers go fight for their cause. Great song and a great idea. Even as a teen I knew this all made sense here! The 80's!

  • The good old days of listning to radio Wave 103 in GTA Vice Ciy

  • yanno if you think about it, it's not a bad idea... 2 coutries disagree, leaders have a no-holds-barred cage match, perfect ^^

  • YELLO " OH YEAH" WHAT A CLASSIC LOOK IT UP FERRIS BEULLERS DAY OFF BEST FILM EVER

  • I remember seeing this video. The message is still clear: War is stupid.

  • timeless classic

  • Brilliant!

  • 80's music...the most controversial/powerful in history???

  • Una linea funk estadounidense y una Rusa.Es la prueba más evidente de las dos tribus actuales.

    Holly Johnson.1984

  • This looks like a Spitting Image sketch without puppets. Right time-period too.

  • Directed by the music video-pioneering english geniuses, Godley & Creme, of 10cc

  • Think of it as obama and putin

  • The night this was first shown i had just lost my cherry. Cheers Jane happy days indeed ;)

  • This video needs replaying on MTV given events in recent years.

  • 27 years old? How the time flies.

  • Where's Nixon?

  • Reagan vs. Gorbachev

  • @RFCRichter Gorbatšov did'nt come to power before 1985, but the song was released in 84, so in this video, Reagan is Fighting Konstantin Tšernenko

  • these are from Liverpool....gay scousers? you cant get anymore wrong than that

  • @K6C10 Holly Johnson and Paul Rutherford were yeah. The guitarist Brian Nash was shocked when his Mum asked him "You're not gay are you?' he answered, 'No, why?!' Then he siad he looked at the bands recent publicity shots and the fact they were playing Heaven in London that week and thought, 'Oh, right.'

  • I still think the cold war is not really over yet. Well atleast music was good because of it! Id call that positive negativity.;)

  • Awsum song. The Power Of Love & Relax r awsum 2. Classic 80s artist.

  • The part of Reagan was played by my mate's dad with fake nose and hair!

  • this song is wayyy better than relax!

  • Love it

  • Wow, how times have changed! This song still kicks ass though.

  • The 12" mix of this is incredible.

  • 9 RETARDS DON'T LIKE THIS???! Premium gold classic from 1984, Summer wasn't it? My sister liked watching TOTP's and I sat there and heard this as a 6 year old kid and loved it, still do. Poigniant, topical then and now. Relevant to all the shite going on in the shit hole that is the Middle East today....

  • Reagan fans claimed that he won the Cold War by encouraging the Soviet Union to overspend on its military and bankrupt itself.

Actually both countries overspent and now both are bankrupt, as the video suggests.

And the Cold War was never "cold". It was a hot war that killed untold numbers around the world.

  • @ReliableInsider

No one has ever "won" a war. Both sides lose. Every time. Something so obvious that only an adult would have difficulty understanding it, their minds made stupid with endless layers of false, conventional thought.

  • @ReliableInsider Sssshhh! Be quite & enjoy the music.

  • Yeah will probably go down as the most powerful bass lick of all time. Nothing else comes close. Instantly recognisable.

  • 1:48 Take that Mike Tyson! Ronnie Reagan was nibbling on ears long before you ever sunk your teeth into one!!!

  • Next match is USA vs China, maybe.

  • @AMIRAALIBEER What do you mean 'next'? That conflict is China vs USA, it's underway already......and China's winning.

  • @sassofalco

ahahaha, China and US are competing economically and for influence. This is NOTHING like the very real threat of nuclear tension and proxy wars that made for the Cold War.

  • Holly Johnson looks like Steve Coogan.

  • Bass riff reminds me of Yello !

  • I swear I saw Ronnie Corbett in the audience...

  • too tribes too good

  • Look at the man's face at 1:33 and thats exactly how I feel about the quality of songs these days: they just don't sound as cool as this awesome piece.

  • This music was used in The X Factor to introduce the conestants

  • @stingray4real it really is to good to be on that shit show its because of that show that im still listening to classics like this and not the tossers mirage of music that plebs listen to

  • frankie says relax! :D

  • Funny how all the really influential bands come from Liverpool?

  • @mintwithahole There must be something in the water...

  • @GarryHarriman THATCHER WAS ONE BAD WOMEN , SHE TOOK ON THE RUSSIAN WITH RONNIE , YOU BRITS WON'T BACK DOWN FROM ANY WAR , I SALUTE YOU GUY'S .. UK KICK BUTT IN THE 80'S TOO..

  • Love how this shows how quickly and how easily war can escalade from just a simple argument. Robert Burns sure knew what he was talking about when he said "Man's inhumanity to man".

Humans...will we ever get along with each other?

  • garry, no probs

  • @GarryHarriman THAT WAS my point, the thick fucks in america dont get the video

  • fantastic song but waste of a paul smith suit

  • Einfach nur die bestennnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn

  • trop pourrie

  • May 28 1984?..that's exactly a year and 3 days after I was born lol

  • Working for THE BLACK MAN

  • @martydrooo LMAO hahahahahahahahahahha

  • one of the best tunes/videos ever !!!!!!

  • why wont this share with my facebook?

  • Great left wing fantasy song and video. The left in Europe was convinced that President Reagan would lead the U.S. to nuclear war with the U.S.S.R. A number of bands, including Frankie Goes to Hollywood and Heaven Seventeen harped on this theme.

Their dire predictions and defamation proved overwrought.

    Now on to global warming.

  • @vorenus911

In fact the video is much more and less simple than that.

Watch the last twenty seconds, what's happening?

Incredible song, and fantastic concept for a video taken in it's entirity (even down to the cable news coverage), probably the best mix of the two Ever.

  • @vorenus911 I don't see how this has anything to do with left-right politics. To me it seems just a song that protests the cold war itself.

  • @vorenus911 aye what tripe. AS IF the u s of a would be so stupid as to actually drop nuclear bombs eh !!!!!!!!!!!

  • @vorenus911 For those of us old enough to have lived through the cold war it was no fantasy. The thought of Cowboy Reagan caused many to shudder, partcularly the Europeans who potentially could feel the brunt of a Soviet attack first. The true sham was the Soviet economic system which could no longer live on a lie. It would had come down Reagan or no Reagan, proven by the CIA having no clue Eastern Europe wold collapse when it did.

  • wish i was alvie when this came out. Im a 87 job

  • Music and gay music, what the fuck is that

  • comon ussr )))

  • A song and video which sums up the 1980s for me in many ways

  • i lol'd so hard at this video!!

  • this is the song whats on the top when i was born :))))))))

  • @little6g congratulations, one of the best songs ever produced

  • ah ah aaahhh... love all the " i'm not gay but i still love this" comments... this has gotta be the best bass line eva(nod to "filmnoirist"..yes dude.. it is!!!).... although... Gat Decor's "passion" is maybe just as stonkin... dunno... cant make my mind up...hey -it's ok to be straight and still love this.. hahaha.. u sad fuckers!!!!

  • I am not gay, but I like the gay music.

  • I'm gay but I like Trace Adkins.

Kidding, I'd never listen to Trace Adkins. WOOOOOOOO!

  • @warriorprince1010 fgth gay???????????? 0__o

  • @warriorprince1010

    So do I ;]

  • @warriorprince1010 what is so gay about this song?? the band is??

  • @warriorprince1010 How can music have a sexual preference...

  • @tallicalad It can. Listen to this song.

  • @warriorprince1010

    Boystown gang check them out

  • @warriorprince1010 am not a lesbian but i just love hollys music.

  • THis still kicks ass .

  • great song !!!

  • Best bass riff ever?

  • You ought to hear Ry Cooder (Last man standing) -film soundtrack ;-)

  • @filmnoirist yes and no. Great bass line, yet done on a synth. Thumbs up though.

  • Classic 80's, Love It!!!!

  • 4 alternatereality85

what u say is so true

    2tribes all we r

  • Still my all time fav tune

  • brilliant stuff noy gay but love the music that one is pure class..

  • Holly and dancer/backup singer Paul were the only gay ones in the group (although they were basically the face of the group).

The guitarist, bassist, and drummer are all married to women.

  • Great song and awesome video, I guess we finally know who this match! Old Ronnie kicked some ass! Thankfully Americans now realize what Reagan was doing.. trying to end (and win) the longest war in modern history.

  • Gr8 Song, Gr8 band, i was lucky to see them live at there last ever show in Wembley in the 80's they were out of this world!!

  • Absolute classic. It was way ahead of its time, and sadly, its still as relevant today as it was back then - and even sadder, it will probably still be just as relevant in another 25 years.

Extra bonus points for the crazy middle eight :-)

  • AHHH you must have been at least 3 yo this is from 1985 that's a fact..But yes you were very young! How about the "Sex Mix" of RELAX??

  • i think you will find this was 1984 however that was the release date in the uk

  • Yes anch0rman13 you are right i was wrong about the year they did not release it in 85 but 84!

  • lol this was number one when I was born

  • When the Russian guy punched the American, it reminded me of the old Doom game, when you get shot and the screen goes blood red.

  • Oh my goodness, I had no idea that this classic was directed by Godley & Creme!

Holly Johnson has the most awesome voice :)

  • I'm not gay but I'd give Paul Rutherford one, he's gorgeous! Ped is the classic Scouser.

  • My favourite song in 1984!

  • Great song, and video. It would still be realevent if it were played on t.V. today.

  • Love your youtube name. Pure class!! My sentiments exactly! x0x

  • @OsamaBeenFartin much more retro anyone?

  • if i were gay i'd play this song while gettin a tadger rammed up ma rim. pure class

  • hahahhahahhhahahha

  • please fuck off with these chain letters!!!

  • Brilliant piece of music.

Channel 4 or Sky used this music when they showed the highlights of that week's NFL games. The music really worked well when showing highlights.

    Frankie were a top group

  • (One octave lower, apparently.)

Hey, but don't let it spoil your listening pleasure of what is just an outstanding four minutes of music !

  • The bass on this track was actually programmed by Trev Horn and Steve Lipson. It's apparently too low to be played ordinarily. It took months and nearly cost Horn his sanity.

  • Wow! So you mean Mark O' Toole's bass isn't what I'm hearing? I'll never listen to this song (no matter how much it KICKS F*ING ASS) again. Thanks for setting me straight.

  • FUCK THATS SONG IS COOL :D

  • when this band hit the scene they wer the dogs bollix..great music dudes

  • as a Yank, I have to ask: "dogs bollix", is that good or bad?

  • it means brilliant, fantastic, amazing, the best

  • jameson excellent answer it is the lot of them and maybe more haha

  • good!

  • Grande grandissima!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • loved the video

  • Grate band, grate no 1 from 84,, but i take my hate off to the best producer of all time "trevor horn" his work stands out from the rest.

Trevor horn should do a re-make of two tribes for 09, with obama & north korean leader "kim jong-iL" in the ring, looks like something going to kick off soon between these two, I hope its only going to be a war of words, and nothing more.

  • reagan could've kicked his Commie-Red ass.

  • Yeah I know, but it was all good stuff. Damn, I was at Ramstein Germany at the height of the cold war when this came out. For such a tense era- it was a very socially-- issue free time frame. People actually got laid. BTW CapWeinberger visited us at the base theater. Reagan was great.

  • Comment removed

  • Always thought this was Frankie's finest hour. Which is saying quite a lot, actually. One of the few good things to come out of the 80s.

  • Alot of good things came out of the 80s. alot I mean alot of good groups def better than the 90s. Are we livin in a world wer court tv is the new god. hoo ha hoo ha

  • Mark O'Toole was a fantastic bass player. And Frankie had some great live performances. Pity much of this single version was programmed bass by Trevor Horn. Find some live versions on Youtube!

  • excellent bass player or programmed......... still sounds good today

  • Remember this video first being shown on channel 4 in the UK this was a time when music meant something and had an impact todays downloaders don't get the feel of vinyl and the excitement of a new release on a Monday morning

  • Bass played by the great Norman Watt Roy and drums by Charlie Charles from the Blockheads.

  • Thank U mate for giving the names of the musicians, because i always wondered who played the bass on FGTH records because it sounds so great!!

  • Wave FM from GTA vice city!

  • Loving this song! Brilliant!

  • Is it true that the Blockheads and not FGTH are actually on this record?

  • Songs today just don't have this sort of drama or such great production! One of the greatest 80s songs!

  • Au Au Au...Yeah!!!!!!!!

  • Now that Ron Paul is no longer involved with our countries future, perhaps a remake with Ron Paul vs the head of the US federal reserve, with Fort Knox exploding at the end and all the people in the crowd having their pockets inside out looking for money, and a lot of forclosure and video clips of fed reps ensuring us all is well. that would be cool.

  • lol only made 3 songs

  • I remember walking through school singing this when it was at number one, imagine 500 kids belting this song out in 1984, thats how big it was!

Living in a land, where sex and horror are the new gods!

  • What an intro. Frankie goes to hollywood was banned from british TV in the 80's.

  • Putin and Bush, it's happening again. Sad stupid times

  • hut 22!!!!!!

    bloody

     brilliant

  • Ron Paul Continues to get punches vs Romney, or McSame and then restrains them at the end to stop the planet from exploding, or not? you decide

  • I agree this should be rereleased but it should be Ron Paul against whom ever the current republican representative is? McSame, Bush, you name him/her, let's have an online vote!

  • This should be rereleased and the video reworked to feature Bush/Blair, Bin Laden/Saddam tag team.

  • Saddam's dead. You should replace him with Vladimir Putin.

  • They blew up the world!!!
