The Hanon is useful to all musicians on all levels...It retains and improves your dexterity. Unfortunately, the guy is playing it to slow at 90 because he is suppose to do an entire rotation on each two beats.
Hanon STRENGTHENS weak fingers (such as the ring finger on the left hand) and it also teaches dexterity. When you need to play a passage using two fingers from each hand in unison or in harmony, Hanon definitely helps! Anyone who says that he is beyond Hanon is only fooling himself. These exercises were used for centuries by classical virtuoso pianists!
@zestymike48 In addition to playing in different keys, one can play in different rhythms, loud-soft, stacatto-legato, etc.--even double octaves. They are very helpful. I just wish I had recognized this 4 decades ago. Now I'm suffering....again and fear that won't stick with it :-(
@zestymike48 actually, since the excercises were written in the beginning of the 20th century, there is no possibility that it was used for centuries. Hanon does help (a little) if you know how to practice it... but few people know how.
Hanon's exercises will fucking ruin you --- that shit has destroyed so many pianists! Sadly, most have to learn the hard way, and oftentimes by then it's too late (as in the physical, emotional, and psychological damage has already been done).
basically if you want to be faster at playing a song especially classical music ... practice at a slow speed but hitting the right notes and not having to stop to think about what note to hit. You play at a slow tempo, then increase gradually.
if you play it relax at a slow tempo then you are able to play it relax at a fast tempo. I'm a proffessional and had to practice this to (I still do) It helps very much with playing the licks you want to play. And you have control when you play them if you practice a lot of Hanon variations. And try to make as much excersises as you can and keep everything with a less tension as possible.
lol buy the hanon midis and put theme in synthesia perfectly
