  • Do we use picks full on or hybrid picking?

  • @miyavizim I do both and I believe EJ does as well depending on the situation. I think in this vid I just use a pick the entire time though. Carl..

  • like if you could tell he'

  • @GuitarLessons365 kinda sucks that you removed it.

  • @trafficjam10 It is still there. Just check the song lessons page... :)

  • @GuitarLessons365 well that's what I did the first time around, so I tried a second time and I'm still getting the same result: "video has been removed by the user".

  • @trafficjam10 Which video are you referring to?

  • @GuitarLessons365 the Cliffs of Dover lesson video. Sorry for the lack of clarification, I replied to a comment you left in the 'Uploader Comments' section where you were responding to someone else.

  • @GuitarLessons365 Oops, your right except that was just an old trailer for the lessons.

  • can you analyse alexi laihos style or any power/ modern metal guitarist that shreds melodically? thanks.

  • Hii Carl....instead of picking every note..im using the pick and finger technique...!

    Do u recommend that..??

  • @mehulpanditful Definitely, I do it myself like that a lot of times plus EJ plays it like that a lot of time as well. :)

  • Hii friend....very nice stuff...!

The good part is ur teaching this in form of an Etude..!

Can u please do a lesson on Eric Johnson's chord playing too...??

It will be great and i guess many will agree to me on this...!

  • @mehulpanditful Hey thanks, I do have some videos on his chord style. This easiest way to find them is to go to my main website (link in description), then click Lessons Archive and go to the Advanced Lessons section. You will find all of my EJ style lessons there. :)

  • @GuitarLessons365 Hii Carl...thank u so much for this..!

Ill tell u something funny...we both look alike...lol...

My good wishes with u....all the best..!

  • very nice

  • great lesson , very clear and good explanation

  • Hey man,

First of all.. Thanks a lot for the lessons, they're really clear and helpful.

I have one question about this lesson though.

Can you explain to me what you use the open voiced arpegios/triads for? Do you use them when improvising, or do you use them when playing chords?

Can you tell me/show me how I should integrate them in my playing?

    Thanks!

    Grtz

  • @jandewitte Hey thanks for watching. Open voiced triads can be used as arpeggios or chords and Eric Johnson does both. As for when to use them, there really are no rules. You can obviously improvise with them or use them to write a song. You can use them in a solo or as chords within a rhythm part. I really feel the best way to learn where to use this stuff is to watch and listen to EJ a lot, he is the master. Then take it and do you own thing with it. Good Luck!! :)

  • Nice Cover Mate L Check the site for lesson"s Keep it up man Greetz From The Netherlands

  • killer skills....thanks for the video

  • Excellent lessons - very easy to understand and follow - I will be making a donation - you are well worth it. Do you play any Jerry Garcia? Maybe "Eyes of the world" ?

  • Very very COOL !

  • @SIRONEDRAGON Thanks a lot!! Carl..

  • Make a lesson on Guthrie Govan's style. like his tapping, and outside chromatics.

  • Great lesson's dude ton's of help

  • Hey man great lesson, really opened my eyes to what you can really do using a scale, i was just messing a round with the pentatonic and figured out some cool combinations on notes using that triad technique. Thanks!

  • finally...someone teaching picked arpeggios (not sweeping). Sounds good.

  • fender strat nice, i use PRS guitars

    All the Best

  • is that guitar conected to an amplifire or an amp and a special sound box

  • @davidcarache Thanks for watching. I am recording direct with my guitar going into a Line 6 POD X3 Live, then with the POD going directly into a Apogee Duet into Logic Pro. :)

  • this is a good lesson on string skipping to

  • Thanks!

  • Hey thanks for the video!

  • Hey!! I suscribed! Nice pickups.... :)

  • nice !

  • Cool this will help me alot. :-) Cheers

  • Interesting even though I doubt I would ever use.

  • since you emailed me i feel i need to comment this sound. I like the delay, but my god the dist you use is way to "metal"ish and i beleave you need loads more middle and bas in the mix to have a great E.Johnson sound. since you already use the neck pickup. I have a realy hard time to hear the coloring in the triads with this sound. not in arpeggio mode, but when you strum them all together.

  • I find most of this stuff useless when it comes to improvising in a jazz context. I teach harmony and ear training at a university here in Philly. What guitar players mostly lack is the ability to hear chord qualities and and Identify intervals. Thanks for sharing tho. Stop by my page when you get a chance

  • Hey man, I aprecciate what you are doing.

    You helped me a lot!

    Thanks and greetings from Guatemala!

    :-)

  • JOE BONAMASSA

  • very cool

  • Great work. Thanks for doing this, and keep it up!

  • right on man...helpful as hell..lol

  • excellent

  • What pickups are those? EJ, last I knew, typically used vintage 50's style Strat pickup. Those are clearly rails pickups.

  • @flmason Hey thanks for watching. The pickups were a Dimarzio Fast Track 2, Chopper and Pro Track. However, I have since had the original EJ single coils put back in it. :)

  • Excellent, dude! One of these days, I'm gonna get this song down, and all correct. Some nice tips. I really appreciate it, though my brain is a bit fried after a long day of work on about 4 hours of sleep, so I'll have to come back when I'm a bit more alert, focused, and fresh! Thanks alot, though! Press on! :)

  • thanks...great lesson

  • nice . do you have some easy ballads in santana style ?

  • very good baster

  • I liked the lesson and what you're doing but the tone on the guitar is too thin and gainy. When you hit chords or more than one string you can't really tell what's going on.

Thanks for making videos though. You're rockin.

  • awesome man what amp????

  • Actually I am just recording direct through a Line 6 POD X3 Live. You can get some nice stuff out of it. :)

    Thanks for watching!! Carl..

  • @GuitarLessons365 what type of pickups are you using on the strat

  • Thanks, I like your style!

  • i use to listen to EJ 24/7 back in the day ... great work!

  • Very well done! 5 stars and I subscribed. I am already a member of the live365 Guitar courses via email and have told everyone in my contact list to check it out!

  • THANK YOU... VERY VERY GOOD JOB

  • i have a line 6 spider IV i just want to play the riff i dont have distortion there only tape echo so i geussed "hey metal is distortion" so i put on metal and tape echo and it really doesnt sound like it im using a fender strat squier affinity series

  • if you look under songs and years (or is it user?) idk one of those two its there i have the same thing unless you have the 30 or 15 watt if so then you better off usuing a little tape echo and insane with less drive or metal full drive

  • nice!!thank you!!!5*****

  • great stuff !

  • Very good lessons, every interested person is able to see clearly how to play!:)

    Great work!:)

  • Great, love to hear that. I have some other EJ vids to if you haven't seen them already. :)

  • 5 Stars, my friend.

Nailed EJ's tone, btw. Sounds just like him. Are you using a tube screamer?

  • Hey Thanks, actually I am using an EJ signature model but with some Dimarzios in it. I record direct into Logic Pro through my Line 6 POD X3 Live.

I really appreciate the feedback, check out my other EJ lessons if you haven't already. Cheers!! Carl.. :)

  • well taught. Thanks

  • Thanks for checking it out. Hopefully you can use the other EJ videos as well. Cheers!! Carl..

  • thanks :) could u do ozzy osbourne?

  • Do you mean like a Randy Rhoads style series or something? I plan on doing that in the very near future and it will cover a lot of his techniques. Thanks for the feedback!! Carl..

  • Hey KDewey92 thanks for watching.. I am actually using a Line 6 POD X3 Live and recording direct into Logic Pro. You can get some nice sounding stuff out of it and it is what I use to create all my video lesson as well as the full performance recordings over on my other youtube channel. Cheers!! :) Carl...

  • dude thanx a bunch could you do yngwie malmsteen next

  • cool .. i like em they screem awsome =D

  • great lesson! nice stratocaster i have a black one :)

  • Thanks!! Yeah I just love the EJ strat, can't imagine playing anything else. It has the perfect flat fingerboard radius, nitro finishing and deep contours and just feels amazing. Gonna put the original pickups back in it soon. :) THANKS FOR WATCHING!! Carl..

  • no prob! :)

  • awesome

  • Thanks a lot!! :)

  • them hot rails pick ups?!

  • Hey.. they are a Dimarzio Fast Track 2, Pro Track and Chopper. I replaced the original single coils in my EJ sig. strat a while back because I needed a humbucking sound for a project I was doing, but I didn't want to play another guitar. I will probably go back to the original single coils soon though. :).. Hey thanks for watching!! Carl..

  • 0:46 - 0:50 dramatic voice change xD

    nice lesson :D

  • hmmm I just noticed that. I must have needed to clear my throat or something. LOL.. Thanks for watching!! Carl..

  • Thanks a lot JayGuit1, I have some more EJ lessons in this channel if you liked this one.. :)

  • nice pickups!

    what are those?

  • Hey allrockirwin, thanks for watching!! I replaced the original EJ single coils with a Dimarzio Fast Track 2, Pro Track and Chopper. I needed a humbucking sound for a project I was working on at the time. But I am thinking of going back to the original singles coils. I haven't decided yet. :)

  • thanks for the lesson .can you please make it slow next time when you explain because i think you speak very fast and do the exercise slowly so everybody can learn yor lesson accurately!cheers!

  • I will do my best, you can download the tab if that will help. Unfortunately youtube gives me a 10min max for the vids so at times with the more advanced lessons it can get kinda rushed. Thanks for watching!!

  • I need to learn this entire song.

  • sounds amazing!

  • Im subscribing and if you could do some buckethead that would be amazing

  • Your Eric Johnson vidoes are REALLY great. You teach his style really well. Thanks for all the work you put into the lessons!

  • Thanks, I really appreciate it. Let me know if you have any other players that you would like to see profiled!!
