You see in those times the other religions of Muslim societies were forced to pay taxes, in return for the taxes the other religions did not have to fight the wars Muslims fought. @sunnydht I've been to France several times and have NEVER run into problems with the stereotyped rudeness. I speak rudimentary French and the people there are very friendly and accepting when you try to assimilate a bit into their culture. I also have noticed that the French are not just rude to americans, but to each other too!

Islam is based around one guy, Mohammed and his words are literally Arabic words from God that he dictated. That makes it pretty impossible to "interpret" in the way that the Bible has to be interpreted. We know the Bible was written down much later so it's easier to imagine errors. And Jesus himself interprets and even cancels stuff from the old testament.

You see in those times the other religions of Muslim societies were forced to pay taxes, in return for the taxes the other religions did not have to fight the wars Muslims fought. On the contrary, the Muslims were forced to conscript if nescessary in wars in order to protect the country.
You see it's a fair and equal trade in my opinion. The other religions contributed to the country's greater interests fairly, just as Muslims did.

I have read that they at least had the benefit of not serving in army. But that also meant they didn't get to steal the loot from the villages they invaded. On TV last night I saw a program on the Anglo-Saxons in England. Of course Britain was invaded plenty of times (anglo-saxons, vikings, normans, romans), but there was also some tolerance for other religions.
The anglo-saxons allowed people to worship the pagan gods and Jesus at the same time. So it's wrong to say ONLY Muslims were tolerant.
I wish I had more time to study history, as it's fascinating. It takes a lot of time to compare who was the most violent.
