Agreed with all of your second comment. On on another note, Socialism at the state level is another matter all together. Localized governments are better able to determine what their states need. Poverty programs may work and should be tried. Ultimately, if people do not like the TAX BURDREN or size of STATE GOVERNMENT they can always leave the state. There is much to be said on the subject (when considering homogenous countries countries ...like in SCANDINAVIA).
Democracy should be practised as close to the people the decisiions concern. Big constructs like the EU, the USA or the CCCP kill democracy because people don't think their one vote matters, they don't know the representatives, and many decisions do not concern them at all - everything seems so distant they lose the interest.
I don't think "big governments" as such would be problems. You fund them with taxes and they usually offer average salary jobs. It's how you use the taxes!
Let me clarify this. If you use the taxes and the "big government" to create and upkeep infrastructure (build roads, plumbing, telecommunications) or services (law and justice, health care, eductaion) "big government" can be a good thing. It develops the society, keeps it peaceful and healthy. Also corporations make profit easier in a developped country than underdevelopped banana republic.
But using tax money to spy people and wage wars would be stupid.

I bought a laptop last August as Bestbuy and it has Windows 7 installed. I have had Windows 98 second edition, Windows ME, and Windows XP. None of the other systems combined has had as many updates as Windows 7. It is almost every day that it says it has a new update. What the hell? How is this possible? I think Bill Gates is updating us with govt. spyware. I am not updating anymore. I also do not stay connnected to the internet as my computer can connect itself.

Turning on your microphone, Turning on your camera, tracking your laptop within a meter, they write it into your user agreement. @GamesInsane For what it is worth, my computer has no web cam or mic, that I know of. I did see 1 thing interesting a couple months ago. I use a wireless mouse but my kids always talk about a track ball or something to that effect. At any rate where this thing is on the computer there was an orange light on. It is small and blends in with the black on the computer. Do you have any idea what this might be? I have no doubt that it is nothing good.

Poverty has to do with the income gaps within the population - much more so than the wealth of the country.
In the USA the richest 1% have more total wealth than the poorest 90% of the people! If you dropped the wealth of this 1% to the same level as 90% of people, the 90% would be twice richer than now!!!!
From 1980 to 2006 the richest 1% of America tripled their after-tax percentage of the nation's total income, while the bottom 90% have seen their share drop over 20%.

Agreed with all of your second comment. On on another note, Socialism at the state level is another matter all together. Localized governments are better able to determine what their states need. Poverty programs may work and should be tried. Ultimately, if people do not like the TAX BURDREN or size of STATE GOVERNMENT they can always leave the state. There is much to be said on the subject (when considering homogenous countries countries ...like in SCANDINAVIA).

Democracy should be practised as close to the people the decisiions concern. Big constructs like the EU, the USA or the CCCP kill democracy because people don't think their one vote matters, they don't know the representatives, and many decisions do not concern them at all - everything seems so distant they lose the interest.
I don't think "big governments" as such would be problems. You fund them with taxes and they usually offer average salary jobs. It's how you use the taxes!

I bought a laptop last August as Bestbuy and it has Windows 7 installed. I have had Windows 98 second edition, Windows ME, and Windows XP. None of the other systems combined has had as many updates as Windows 7. It is almost every day that it says it has a new update. What the hell? How is this possible? I think Bill Gates is updating us with govt. spyware. I am not updating anymore. I also do not stay connnected to the internet as my computer can connect itself.

Turning on your microphone, Turning on your camera, tracking your laptop within a meter, they write it into your user agreement. @GamesInsane For what it is worth, my computer has no web cam or mic, that I know of. I did see 1 thing interesting a couple months ago. I use a wireless mouse but my kids always talk about a track ball or something to that effect. At any rate where this thing is on the computer there was an orange light on. It is small and blends in with the black on the computer. Do you have any idea what this might be? I have no doubt that it is nothing good.
