Michael Shure's parade idea is fucking BRILLIANT. And it could work. Each parade, depending or normal attendance, gets a chunk of city to parade around. well jamaica is like 3 percent but 15 percent at least (its probably more than that) mixed with white.. other places are around the same 3 percent or whatever but the french islands are more like 9 percent.. it doesn't really matter if any of them are white or not..they are still west indian.. west indian comes first.. b4.. race.. you need to understand this.. however, in the states.. it is more like race and culture are joined together.. it is not the same.. in the west indies..

@NYDASH28 basically most of the "white" has been mixed with black and since the majority of people are black then of course most the white is going to be distributed as people being like 1/8 or 1/4 white or something.. on all sides.. which would probably notshow most of the them.. so what is basically white?
for certain my grandfather just looks black and is dark and his mother was 1/4 portuguese, my fathers mother was very dark and so are most of her sisters but she is 1/4 white and 1/4 indian

i forgot to say that my other grandmother.. was 1/4 french.. so

for instance my grandfather was a poor white.. he had 8 children in a tiny house.. same for.. the woman who is married to my mothers brother her parents had 8 children also in a tiny house..
a lot of wes indian black people are actually partially white(even though this may not be seen)some of my cousins are basically just really black and look black but they are more than 1/4 white.if you go back a couple of centuries white people made up the majority in the west indies

The census basically mixes ethnicities and 'races' as categories
It needs to stick with either,
black, white, brown, red, yellow, arab (I don't know what colour to give that)
Or just split the world into different regions and have people check off stuff (for themselves, parents, grandparents.. whatever)

Where as West Indian means a region.. as in an ethnicity.. that has it's own culture because of the place it is..
Also.. I don't think that the term African American makes any sense because
1) They are not African

They were trying to get a "Non Hispanic Caribbean" option on the census but it was shut down
Basically black west indians.. choose the option if it says "black or african american".. if it just says "african american" nothing will be chosen..east indian descent and chinese descent west indians do not choose "asian american" and i guess white west indians would choose white .. I know some west indians that choose hispanic even though they are not

Basically.. the census probably needs to redo its whole self and forget about racial categories and just split the world into say.. 8 or 9 regions and have people.. choose a region.. because right now , race, is very insignificant, and grouping people together with other people solely due to the fact that they look like someone else makes no sense

Dominican Republic, Mexico etc are labelled under Hispanic when everyone else that speaks english, french, dutch, portuguese or papiamento is either forced into some group that they don't want to choose to be in or made to click 'other' like they are unimportant

Michael Shure's parade idea is fucking BRILLIANT. And it could work. Each parade, depending or normal attendance, gets a chunk of city to parade around. And each year the parades would get better and better because of the inevitable hatred and competition between the...whatever the fuck sets up a parade (parade committee just sounds weird) that will form. It also gives people a chance to discover different parades they normally wouldn't attend......fucking brilliant I say!
