  • Anyone knows Brian clay his throw is very far given his bodyweight he must be powerful in his legs his bw is approximatively about 190lbs

  • Anyone saw Brian clay how far he throws he is also a good sprinter That means that he is gifted in power in hislegs

  • Werner Goldmann, the "doctor" in the background?

  • i think you got mixed up with udo beyer. cause i know he does like 550 or more

  • udo is well over 600 also you can't look at ulf timermann arms to say he can't bench 550. If i used your logic then I guess its easy to say he can't squat over 550 too. He's not a huge shotputter, but it's widely known amongst strength athletes you don't need to be big to lift big weights or throw far in ulf's case. I had a weightlifting coach you could squat 260kg x 5 at 85kg.

  • Wow, that was a FAST eccentric. Anyone know how much was on the bar?

  • no more than 500 , I'll guess somewhere around 350-400. Ulf didn't have a massive bench

  • stupid!!! and how do you know that.

  • just look at arms. it s obivise that he doesnt bench that much

  • cmon now dud, dont be ignorant u dont have to look like anything 2 fit a description. It was well known he had a 550 bp.

  • he is only doing like 455 right there.with the pad on to make it easier. and no he is not well knowh for his bench press. he is well known for the fact that squats well over 700 lbs. that way he was such a beast in the shot put. bench press doesn't mean crap in the shot put

  • I didnt say he was well know for his bp. I said It was well known he had a 550 bp

  • bench does help a lot in release speed though, esp with the 16, that thing is no joke

  • no it doesn't. what matters is your legs and getting your hips in it. thats the key. a great throw is one were your hips is behind and the shot put will just fly out of your hands like rocket. cant do that with just upper body. it may help the bench press but the legs are ten times important then the legs. trust me i know and most pro shot putters would agree with me

  • ohhh ok so thats why cantwell can throw far? wrong. he has no legs, just a massive bench, rediculous explosion and a super fast release on the shot.

    speed at release is important

  • yeah speed of release is important but christian cantwell also does back squat of 800 lbs. granted he does bench 620 lbs but he does still use his legs to get that shot put moving. granted he use only slight bend in his legs but he still use them. he has to and everyone knows that. throwing comes from legs first, abs then finally arms. plus cantwell ridiculous explosiveness comes from the fact that does crap load plyometrics and the fact that he get crap load speed across the ring with his spin

  • what you're saying is that using your legs will make the shot magically "fly off your neck". obviously that wont work for cantwell. and of course he has a massive squat, i dont think any thrower would enjoy doing only upper body workouts.

i bet you anything that if cantwell sat more with his throw and exploded up with his legs, he'd be over the 80' mark. he's tall and strong enough, thats for sure.

  • probably. but the legs are more important then the upper body. any real thrower knows that

  • i know the legs are important. but i also said benching helps with release speed and you said it doesnt

  • a superfast release is helped significantly if you use your legs. thats why all the shot putters bend on there right leg when they do there about to throw if they are right handed. left leg if there left hand. even christian cantwell does it. he doesn't whole alot but he still bends on that knee. he couldn't throw as far as he does if he didn't bend on the and let the legs start first in the throw

  • Well I recently found out he had a 550 bench, 50lbs more than I thought. I also read his training system, I can't remember seeing any benches in an excess of 85% or 467lbs (generally 75%). So as for me being stupid... we have the facts I'll leave the guys here to decide who's stupid.
