  • nothing beats the note of that A9X

  • Fantastic!

  • would have loved to see the a9x actually running the taller gearing it ran at Bathurst 79, would have been a different story'

  • holden torana= opel viva

    holden commodore= opel redock

still funny how people call them aussie sure they were assembled here but not much else

  • The A9X looks the nicest to me - and sounds the nicest too. I prefer an XB Falcon though for its muscle car shape

  • the vy and vz still look more aggressive then the ve supercars...

  • RIP Peter Brock, you are missed.

  • ahhh.. those were they days... V8 Supercars on channel 10, 6 speed H pattern gearboxes and Peter Brock.. :)

  • had of been a ford none of them crappy holdens would of beat it ,haaaaa shit box holdens

  • one word. A9X!!!!! Australias greatest muscle car!!!

  • Awesome love the A9X, and what a Pity Brockie is gone. Long live the Torana

  • atleat the second and third car dont sound like they have a lady chatterley crisis

  • haha, alright, now start the A9X and the Commodore at the same time.... ;)

  • awesome upload much appreciated

  • No commodores are based on a crap Opel

  • @TheTestDrivers hmmm perhaps you should look up opel senators on google images

  • @TheTestDrivers Vauxhall is British but then decided to work together with Opel for some reason and now they make the same car. They keep the name Vauxhall for the UK market but Opel for EU. Also Holden is the Australian version and Saturn the American.

  • @TheTestDrivers - The VB Commodore of the late seventies combined the body of the Opel Commodore with the nose of the Opel Senator. Every Commodore up to the VE model used the same floor pan, even the VN and later cars, which simply had the sills widened to match the wider bodywork.

  • @Grunzaa Ummm no... Just no.

  • Put a GT-R on there

  • That 308 in the A9X sounds wicked. Ive got an HZ Monaro and tried several different exhaust styles over the years. I remember Brocky saying a standard 308 sounds shit and the best way to make it sound better was to run a two into one system. He was right. Skaife looks almost relieved to have (Just) won that race. Hes even breathing heavy.

  • the 15 who disliked this need a smack . . . . . with an 18 wheeler.

  • Great to see Brocky back on the mountain, I miss him so much..just wish he could do 1 more lap or race around the mountain. Love ya Brocky.

  • the A9X is the best looking

  • those xu1s are nice

  • what a gay sport i bet you losers wear holden and ford clothes they are the sort of people i like punching

  • @JumpManJnr No doubt your a little Homo with no real purpose in life so you get on the internet and post shit like that to make yourself feel better. Your a good example of why the world is turning to shit.

  • Vehicles in this comparison test are:

'04' Holden Commodore VZ SS (Cameron McConville)

'79' Holden Torana A9X Malboro HDT (Peter Brock)

'04' Holden Commodore VY HRT V8 Supercar (Mark Skaife)

  • I need to point out that the A9X was running the wrong gear ratio's for Bathurst this day, which is why Skaife passes Brock so quickly down Conrod.. Totally our mistake in the preparation and sadly one we could not fix on the weekend. Nor would we get the chance to have it with the correct ratio with Brocks sad passing. This lap shown here here was to be Brock's final lap at speed around Bathurst, in one of his most favoured cars.. RIP PB.

  • doubt if there is even a nut and bolt that came from holden ,it is a pure race car

  • and let me also say the V8 Supercars use pushrod engines as opposed to Twincam DOHC or the like is because pushrod engines generally are alot more durable sure alot can go wrong with the tappets etc but they have there reasons and maybe even its to do with the easyness of ECU tuning as opposed to trying to work out 700,000 settings for VTTI or timing etc

  • furthermore all this Japbox Riceburner crap is unnecessary... sure they were never good at racing without a turbo but thing is most nissans mazdas etc... were made for if you want a cheap affordable car that will hardly ever go wrong as with my '99 pulsar sedan ... a good L's car

  • i love it how all you people say holden is american but in actual fact Holden was a leather making company for the AUS government it was contracted by the AUS government to make bodys for a new type of car (cant remember what it was)

  • I suspect Brock didn't really hammer the A9X down Conrod, as the car was pretty much straight out of the museum when he drove it.

  • @gone911helloWRX better than piece of shit jap cars which sound like farts in a milo tin

  • @shnizalproductions just have to take your word for that - I've not farted in a milo tin.

But seriously, the Japanese cars they banned (for being too fast) have left us with a boring car race between two American/Australian cars

  • RIP Brocky . i was at Targa Rally WA when you passed away and never got to see you come past.. i lived in Toodyay and was standing on the side of the road waiting for you but....... long live the king.......and im a ford man but your still the king of the mountain

  • Great comparo! Love to see the R32 Nissan GTR race car from the 90's vs a current R35 GTR road car vs an R35 GTR from the Super GT racing championship. Obviously it will never happen because if it did, they would have to ban it from ever happening again cause it might hurt all the V8 guys feelings again!!!! Love to see a return to REAL touring car racing. Bring back the turbos and other manufacturers. So sick of just Falcodores. Our talented drivers deserve better!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • @adzmorris as of 2012 open class to ALL manufacturers. 5.0 litre v8 restriction i think

  • RIP Peter Brock.

    Australia's greatest driver.

  • @jimmywrangles

    Couldnt agree more :)

    RIP Brock

  • hate holden but great video. would love to see some of the biantes being compared to the v8 supercars around bathurst

  • Now that was interesting. I thought that the A9X was actually going to catch the stock SS, but it ended up pretty even.

  • That A9x looks BeaStly, but that Supercar looks Pure Evil, both very nice.

  • As good as the v8 supercars are the torana is still so much better and a shit load sexier!

  • Comment removed

  • The thing I love about this vid is that both Cam Mcconvile and PB were reasonably relaxed after the race but you could tell Mark Skaife was giving it everything,so much so he was out of breath afterwards! What they need to do now is do something similar with a V8 Supercar maybe a racing BMW M3 and a Sierra Cosworth preferably in Shell racing colours ie a Dick Johnson Sierra!

  • @toeboe106 Your right bro, i thought the same bout Skaife sucking in the big ones. He looks releaved that he just pipped the SS, cool vid and 2 of the best PB & Skaife.

  • cars now days should be like that a9x torana :P

  • So wickly cool. Go the mighty HRT

  • Thanks for uploading :)

  • fuk yes awesome

  • holden was never bought it was made by gm

  • Im a ford fan but i hold a lot of respect for brock and that torana

    RIP Peter Brock

  • dreadly101, the Probe came from a Mazda base. Ford has never owned any share in Nissan, though as part of the Button plan, Ford did rebadge the Patrol 4WD as a Maverick, and Nissan rebadged the Falcon ute as a Nissan ute - that's it.

Fantastic video though, loved the A9X's.

  • The BEAUTIFUL sound that A9X makes stirs my soul. From an era cars were tough yet simple to work on and made of METAL.

  • Did every one see that brocky's A9X was over heating right from the start and you can see him looking at his Temp

  • None of it matters, the A9X is THE car in any comparison. It will still be a collectors items long after we have forgotten the others.

  • bloody little rippper that a9x love it!!! sounds like a beast to!!!! :D brings a smile to your face seeing the old girl rip around bathrust again. R.I.P brocky

  • That was awesome, thanks man! How cool to see Brocky in the A9X...I met him once, when I was about 25 and asked him what car he had at home and he said he just had his wife's car...so, I asked him what car he would have out of all he had driven and he said the A9X.

  • @brockstercvx take the hair dryer off the side of your nissan and then race it. i bet it would go no where because thats the the only way you can get power out of those rice burners, they need help from turbos

  • Respect....

  • The A9X Torana. What a car! It still looks hot today.

  • A9X Torana all the way :P

  • Cracking makes you want one

  • chuck skaife back in the r32 GTR and watch him flog those bombadores

  • AHAHAHHA SO TRUE! BRING GODZILLA BACK! bombadores nice one ;)

  • @lowndes888racing nah man its called a commonwhore.

  • Wow that was a fantastic concept and superbly executed. RIP Brocky, well and truly the end of an era.

The comment from not255 about trying to convince yanks about the Monaro...

Just try to tell them the truth about Australians in PNG/ Kokoda track being first beat the Japs on land in WW2. As usual the useless fucks come late into a battle and claim they saved the day...

    FUCKING YANKS!!

  • we weren't late to the battle at Guadalcanal...or Iwo Jima, or Okinawa, or the Philippines...Just food for thought.

  • Im a Ford man but mass respect for some clasic aussie muscle

  • lolz... i thought i was doing a 2:06.8, i thought i was giving murph a run lolz

  • Be really good to see the A9x with the current 5 litre motors they run in the Current V8 Supercars and see how the comparision is then , straight line and handling , it would be completely different. There is a massive difference in horsepower between the cars 650hp vs 420max.

  • rip brokey

  • That was pretty cool! Man I want an A9X

    Poor Brocky!

  • glad skaife was in the supercar or we'd still be hearing him whinge.

    RIP Brocky

  • I have had arguments with these cockhead Americans over who designed and built the Monaro that was exported to them !!

check out some of their comments on "GTO VS CAMARO" youtube vid, and you can read some of their idiotic comments about Holden and the on going argument i have had with some of the cockheads !!! the dicks think that because Holden is subsiduary of GM that they own Holden !!

  • Actually to the "made in" argument all the teams now use the same racing components in suspension, brakes, gearbox etc.The real difference or origin is ONLY LEFT at the engine and bodypanels.

  • damm it was good to see our brocky behind a holden......we miss u peter perfect......R.I.P....aussie hero of racing...

  • Jeeeeeeeez, that is AUSTRALIA!! Australia muscle at its best, 3 great Aussie vehicles VZ SS, A9X Torana & HRT,s VZ Commodore with 3 fantastic drivers, Brocky, Skaifey & Cam, whacking the round the best circuit in the world, Mt Panorama, its heaven.

  • Holden is owned by GM, actually. So technically, it's American muscle re-branded for Australia.

  • And Jaguar is owned by Tata Motors Ltd, India, does that make them Indian luxuy cars rebranded for the pommies?

  • Acquisition of Jaguar by Tata happened in 2008, so your argument isn't really valid or relevant to my point.

  • Thanks for that fact, and GM bought out Holden in 1931, what relevance does stating the year of acquisition have to do with what we are talking about? I bet your write really compelling essays at school, which I'm sure you are still attending.

Nothing changes the fact that Holden are (mostly) developed and built by Australians for the Australian market. Just because they are owned by a US based company, doesn't make it "American muscle."

It's called globalisation; wake up to yourself.

  • How mature. I'm glad you're resorting to petty insults instead. Shows me how much it's getting to you. <3

  • Aussie muscle mate,Lol youre dreaming with your American muscle bullshit.

I think you should stick to watching the Nascars go around & around & around in circles, instead of the v8's going around one of the best tracks of all time Mount Panorama.

  • Do you need a hug?

P.S. - I do Data Acquisition and Telemetry for road racing teams.

  • No,only if youre a chick.

I dont care what you do, theese are 3 Aussie muscle cars & 3 legends behind the wheel.

  • @Niadivedct Lol at you champ. So because you punch a keyboard for someone your'e qualified to comment on this. If I made programs to make the coffee on a space shuttle, or cut the astronauts hair, does that make me qualified to be an astronaut?.

Coincidentally the new Camaro is made of Australia's zeta platform. Do Australians claim the Camaro then? No because we have better things to do then try to claim every other country's technology as our own. But of course that is what you Americans do.

  • @tyrhantc

I'm humbled that my year-old trolling is still getting people upset. :)

  • @Niadivedct And likewise I am humbled that a year after posting you're previous commnts you would take the time to reply to my post... I honestly did not expect to see a reply from you as a fair percentage of the population would have expected you to have moved on with your life. Maybe I can set a calendar appt to check here again in 5 years to keep you amused...

  • Not really; American muscle can't turn a corner

  • Oh, is that why Ford is currently beating out BMW and Porsche in the Grand-Am KONI points?

  • all of those cars are designed and built in Australia, the only thing american in those cars are the Engines (the SS and the HRT Commodore) . It is an Australian Car. Holden was bought out by GM. GM didnt make Holden. stop trying to pawn great cars off as American cars, we all know Americans stopped making good cars in the late 70's

  • @shnizalproductions Your fucking kidding arnt ya?? The Torana is an Opel, the two commodores are also opels using chevy engines

  • @dreadly101 no fuck head, the commodore was LOOSELY based off the opel omega, totally different car. owned an opel omega when i was living in germany. i also owned a VT Exec... Totally different cars buddy, just loosely based off the opel.

  • @dreadly101 the torana isnt an opel dude its the only locally built holden at that time and its been voted number aussie muscle car of all time by motor magazine even john bowe voted it over the xy gt its a great car! from memory ford lasers ran mazda engines, the festiva runs a kia motor or mazda either either, the ford maverick is a copy of a nissan patrol running a nissan motor, and my old kc laser had the same dash out of a mazda b2600 loool

  • @SuperTamponBandit You do realise Ford owns a big chunk of both Mazda and nissan?! Holden has only ever imported converted to left hand drive and tweeked a few minor things. So i see no comparison in that. Im talking Falcon vs Commodore

  • @dreadly101 true true i can see ford using mazda and nissan parts but gm owns holden so i can see why holden are using gm (chev etc) torana is pretty much the only aussie holden made besides the monaro. worst thing created by holden was astras and vectras which are 100% opel with holden badge shitboxes. best holdens are HDT and some HSV

  • @dreadly101 Ford doesnt own nissan?? WTF are you on? Ford owns 33% of mazda but nissan is its own brand!! in fact nissan actually owns Renault!

  • @Albin111 Ford brought Renault, renault has 44% of nissan, which is now fords. Where do you think the probe came from?

  • @dreadly101 nah you are wrong the ford Probe was a one off collaboration, much like the toyota lexen and holden commodore was in the 90s or the toyota camry and holden Apollo... you dont mean to say Toyota owns holden too?? coz then I'll quite frankly laugh at your face!!

  • @shnizalproductions American parts......junk

  • @maddazz sorry mate dont put a s on parts engine only aussie made boy!!!

  • @shnizalproductions Love Holdens. But the Torana & Commodore are based on Opel platforms. Look it up...

  • @1234597114 yeh and your based on your grand parents for example and im betting theres a big difference between them and you... same principle here. our versions were nothing like its predecessors.

  • @1234597114 A platform is nothing more than a chassis. And the new Camaro is based off the VE zeta platform...so whats yopur point?I have never hard of any Australian claiming to own the Camaro because of this. Wake up to yourself.

  • @shnizalproductions I was under the impression that General Motors Holden while being Australian was in fact a subsidiary of GM USA this is why there is a startling similarity between the 57 BelAire and the FB-FC series.

The Toranas are Variations of the Buick Skylark which was originally a cross between Chev and Pontiac model at the time.

The A9X however was 100% Australian Designed as a Sports Sedan something that it indisputably did.

  • @shnizalproductions

All the Commodores except for the VE are based on an Opel sedan...

  • @TheTobes99 that is 100% correct

  • If ignorance is bliss then there should be a lot of happy Americans :-)

  • McConville is massively over-rated

  • For anyone to be up there in a V8 Supercar, is not an over rated driver.

  • 'up there' in the local touring car championship dosn't make you a world-class driver...

  • Japanese cars are the biggest heap of shit ever invented to grace the presence of bitumen. Lets see the japs produce real torque and power curves without using gay ass turbos. Nothing beats a real motor thats N/A and nothing but real engineering. Holden / Ford , it doesnt matter. JAP cars are for those who wish they had a real car ! Why are these jap cars known as "JAP CRAP" !

  • definantly i hate little fucking buzz boxes, holden and ford RULE, but i do like Fords more lol not starting anything though

  • i dont think you need to go that far. some people like the high tech jap cars, others dont. personally i like the high tech low capacity engines. i own a 350 chev hj tonner and a gemini with an sr20det in it. the tonner makes 350rwhp and the gem 340rwhp. it was a lot cheaper to get the power out of the sr20det... not that i dont like the 350. but the gem is way faster and and has plenty of torque. jap crap, i dont think so. the gtr proved that at bathurst...

  • yeeeees what ever dude

  • Awesome from what little I get to see on the internet it looks alot more exciting then NASCAR all left handers ZZZZZZZ. Plus Australia is full of the nicest people on the planet.

  • when you own a race car , then you can tell us all how slow they are ...

  • I see. So your just trolling on youtube then. But you also forget that this is touring car racing. Racing cars that were not intended to be raced when produced. And also when it comes to racing, the faster cars are, the harder it is to overtake.

  • Go watch the japanese gt championship if you want to watch sky rines. . .

  • uh-huh..i dont think so mate..it might have in 89 but not now..and also since the SS is N/a..why dont you take the Turbo off the R32 and see how well she goes..im a Ford fan but for sure as SHIT ill stick up for a fuckin holden before i admit any japanese hunk of shit could out perform ANY of those holdens..

  • agreed

  • bloody brilliant AUSTRALIA V8 no need to say any more ... brockstercvx > this about v8s not jap stuff ok...

  • do people have interveiws with drivers while they are racing in other countries? or just here in oz?

  • aus man all the way but sometimes in us they do it

  • Different sense of racing over here, other areas find it to be putting off the driver when they race, infact, we don't do it in oz anymore after someone crashed during an incar interview, can't remember who, but it was at bathurst.

  • My pick of the 3 hold-ons(as in hold on you're gonna die!)would have to be Brockie's A9X.He was lovin it and the noise...just awesome!!!

  • god bless you sir brock thanks

  • The pinnacle of Torana development was the A9X. A better comparison (now or back in 2004) would be the current SS Commodore road car, current V8 Supercar Commodore and a 1984 VK Group C Commodore (if one is available) as Brock drove that year. The 2009 Bathurst race being 25 years since the 1984 race would be ideal....

  • The A9X was a museum piece. Don't forget that! Its like watching a old Spitfire flying. It doesn't have to show off. History has already been made!!!

  • Damn right what a master piece too. I know I'd take home the A9X if given the choice of all 3. It was great to see all the same I was surprised that the A9X didn't beat the standard road car, but then again it was given a good enough head start.

  • And the master drove it accordingly no need to bash her up as you said the writing is already on the wall.

  • This would be perfect "One-Lap Magic" if this was Gran Turismo 4. Great video. Lovely stuff!

  • Brocks A9X was not in its original Bathurst configuration.

The diff ratio used was a lower ratio than the Bathurst ratio which was used in 1979, that was why The SS road car easily overtook on the straight, McConville said he was doing 240kph, a 79 A9X Bathurst Torano would top 250kph, Brock was stuck on the rev limiter in top gear halfway down the straight.

  • It wasn't the ss roadcar that passed Brock on the straight, it was Skaif's race car

  • if was a lower ratio wouldnt that mean it has a higher top speed.

  • lower diff ratio means higher top speed, true

  • Well it could be that OR valve float. Since they didn't have very good anti-float technology, the cars' engines tended to fall off a little bit more sharply past the ideal RPM range, though you're probably right because it was maxed out down the long straight.

  • also a9x's are even more deadly, god they look so tough

  • fuck oath bro!weapons

  • man ss's are fuckin deadly my mates vt ss s2 only has a 3.5'' cat back exhaust and it will easily step out on you if you tromp it and it sounds so awesome cant imagine a 6.0ltr or 6.2ltr for that matter, GO HOLDENS

  • Herrlich

  • HOLDEN BROCK, HOLDEN SKAIFEY, HOLDEN MCCONVILLE,that is one great clip, to see 3 of the great cars and 3 top blokes pedalling them round, the best circuit in the world.

Words are hard to find, to describe Mt Panorama, but in numbers, 10/10 is the Mt.

"R.I.P BROCKY" We miss ya mate.

  • Im a Ford Man 2! But Brocky YOU ARE THE MAN!! AND THE KING OF THE MOUNTAIN!! GREAT COMBO BROCK & TORANA!! MEEEEANNN!!!

  • That has to b the best pre race thingy ever done in Aus... i'll never ever forget this

  • Even though it was a comparison between tech, The Torana could have done better with a 5 Speed. I removed the old Torgue Master M20 4 speed from my 76 LX Hatch and put a Supra 5 Speed in it and the difference is Chalk and Cheese. it does in 3rd now what it used to do in 4th.

  • I'm a Ford man thru and thru, and gotta admit the Brock and HDT Torana A9X is one awesome combo. Thanks for the memories......

GOOO LOOOOWNSY for 2009!! And Whincup for 2008 championship!!!

  • Go ford! Holdens are ok but they are built shit, america muscle is the only thing that saves them. Motor's ok but car fucken shit house.

  • if ur ford watch a ford channel dude we dont care really lol

  • Holden's built like shit? Funny my daily driver is a 27 year old commodore that has never been garaged, has almost perfect paint and barely costs anything on repairs.

  • 888 dominate again

  • long live the king RIP Peter Brock miss ya mate

  • could u please add my video responce

  • pretty good, a9x running with an 2004 model ss 25 years difference

  • it didn't "run with it" - it was blitzed!

  • umm mate its was beaten by less than 10 secs and there was a 10 second interval between the ss and the a9x.

  • Yes but in a 160 lap race, that 10 seconds per lap becomes over 26 minutes...

  • what i am saying is the a9x is better the ss as the ss started 10 seconds before the a9x, but the a9x finished within 10 seconds of the ss

  • My mistake, I misread your original comment. I was at work so I wasn't paying complete attention ;)

  • So the A9X Race Car is slightly better than a Commo SS Road Car with a cage fitted? I think its more a case of 30 years of suspension evolution making road cars so much better than they used to be. Admittedly the A9X would have done better with a lap to warm up the tyres it was on.

  • true, also if the a9x was still in exact condition as it was in '79

  • of course it is lol. for 30 years old and and performing that well against todays commodore im fuckni impressed. love my TORANA

  • The diff ratio on Brocks car was much to high, the car was redlining half way down Conrod straight, this A9X was not setup for Bathurst, but a much shorter track like Oran Park or Amaroo Park.

  • cant beat old school cars just look so much better, and the guy who said throw in a ford yeah right shitboxes

  • this coming from a wankel fan

    baahahahaha

  • throw a ford in would of blown them all away

  • with their cocksucking abilitys? yer ford really BLOW.

  • that was a pretty gay comment warhater69.typical holden homo

  • If it were brocky in his hayday (remember he hadn't driven this car in near 25 years) the outcome may have been more in his favour ,of course it's not going to beat the v8 supercar but it would have been a lot closer .
