I remember my dad and I running next to 765 when I was a pup in a 1974 dodge charger, 28 years later I took my son to see her, we stood at her reins and then I saw my dad smile, The power of steam is a close second to a fathers love.
Now, 1 year later, I'd like to know if the DVD release happened and if so, where does one get it? This footage excels much of what I've seen on commercially released videos, and that's not because they're bad, but because this stuff is so good. Thanks for any info you can give me on its availability.
@dhennen61 the DVD release did not yet happen, but its all but forgotten. With the limited time I have to work on it, its slow going- but its going! Don't worry, you will hear about it when its ready. :)
Would you still be willing to create and sell a DVD of some of your videos? Our 2 year old watches them constantly, and both my husband and I think they are beautiful!
The only drawback is that when we want to use the computer, he won't let us as he wants to watch 'trains!'
Please let me know if youd be happy to put something together, as we would gladly buy it!
Beautiful photography. Can someone elaborate why whistles are blown so long and often in the US? Here in Aust, they usually give one or two fairly quick blasts on approach to a level crossing and that's it. I assume there is some regulatory requirement over there relating to the operation of train whistles, or do the drivers just like to "let off a bit of steam"?
@flyingscrapyard - North American law states that the engineer must sound the whistle in a long-long-short-long sequence before entering the crossing. Most of the whistle-blowing done in the video was done just for fun...you'd never see a revenue train be so active on the whistle, especially in the middle of nowhere. Some steam locomotives came with a secondary whistle pull chord for the fireman so he could help let off some steam before the safety valve popped off.
@deloreanman14 actualy the fireman's whistle was just for the fireman's fun. it also serves as the whistle when the engineer is blind on his side goin around a curve. there are several times in which the engineer and fireman blow for the crossings. in this case, the fireman's whistle also provides some sound itnerest for the photographers.
THE best railroad video I have ever watched. That was a very professionally done charter and photo shoot, without leaving out even the smallest detail. The opening sequence that takes place at dawn, along with the silhouette at sunset are the most beautiful scenes of railroading I have ever seen.
My two year old son and I have been watching this, he thought it was amazing and so did I. Real hairs-standing-on-end good, and I've never even been to the US!
Sounds like a NKP whistle on 765, but what is that one guest whistle on 1225? No one seems to know what kind it is or what engine it could be from? Any idea.
@dingo4903 Which whistle are you talking about? If your talking about the whistle on 1225 I know it's not N&W 611's because it sounds different. The two on NKP 765 are a 6 chime and a Nickel Plate whistle. If your talking about the low-sounding whistle, it's off of Frisco #1522 which is a 4-8-2 mountain. The two whistles are the exact same model though.
@PereMarquette1223 Yes the whistle currently on 1225 is on loan from N&W 611. Confirmed by a friend who is currently working on the boiler rebuild. Perhaps it's operating at a different pressure or other variables. I have no information about NKP 765.
Unbelievable!!! I have been chasing the 765 with my dad (Doug Brown) since the 80's and I love that she is back out on the rails. The 1225 is also one of my favorites and these sites are simply amazing... Brings back memories of 1218 and 611 running side by side long ago. Yes make a full DVD!!!
