  • I have a Fishman in my banjo...love it!

  • @mwestmo Out of context this is a hilarious comment. =)

  • Ok...great job by the way! Nice Crossfire!

  • @mwestmo Thanks! Actually the factory pickups SUCK in these things....I would love to get some new ones but never have.

  • Is that a modal tuning?

  • @mwestmo It's written to be played in open "E" tuning

  • this is amazing!! Where did you get your electric? :o

  • @DestructivelyYours I bought it in Atlanta at Banjo.com

  • @flecktonesrock thanks! :D

  • So awsesome!

  • Man you are a badass banjo player. Keep it up. You got a group you play with?

  • @AlpineGrizzly600 No group. I barely have time to practice anymore it seems. Thanks for watching!

  • This is the song that influenced me to start playing the banjo - though Im not quite good enough to play it yet. Wonderfully picked! Bela Fleck is a genius.

  • Sounds great man. what kind of amp are you playing out of?

  • @slickrick134 Thanks! It's an old Marshall MG series.

  • Awesome!

God I was a Deering Crossfire so bad! :(

They're so damn expensive though..cant work now either! aarrgghh!!

  • Beautiful. The tone, the smooth playing with the ping of the picks hitting the strings.

  • sorry my english xD

  • im not banjo player, but bela is my favorite musician of today, and i dont know , but he remember me to paul mcerney from the beattles xd

  • influences, good influences, nice future

  • Really great.

  • Amazing performance, beautiful banjo, melodic tunes that soothe the heart and soul. First time I ever listened to an electric banjo, it's very nice.

  • @MSfeller Thanks a bunch!

  • @flecktonesrock You're welcome, that's one of my favorite videos and tunes here so far. I listen to it while drinking a beer and dreaming awake about things, good things. Thank you, man. Having a good time with your video.

  • Man that was awesome!!! I played banjo for about 2 years and only managed

to learn one Bela fleck song {Reverie} that's why i went back to guitar, You play flawless great job

  • Nice crossfire you have there, I was looking into getting one myself.. until I saw the 4000 dollar pricetag. Great pickin'.

  • @CoffeeShopification $4000 may be retail, but it's still around $2800 at reputable dealers. That's what I got it for.

  • This is beautiful! I saw Bela play this a while ago. He was sitting at the edge of the stage asking the audience to yell out any songs they wanted to hear. One of the best concerts I've ever seen! Keep strummin'.

  • @peachpieisgood27 Thanks! That much have been a cool concert! Bela's a really personable guy.

  • YEAHHHH AMAZING my friend!!!! :D You made my day better!

  • You are amazing! I only wish I could play like you do. :)

  • OMG ! ;o amazing performance

  • you are great :B

  • Well done! Almost like Béla :-)

  • Thanks for the comments!

  • That was really mellow. Nice.

  • please don't ever stop playing. You're very talented.

  • wow, i love playing the banjo so much and hope to learn this soon.

  • that sounds really good dude. my band is just started to play this song.

did you learn all those rolls and fingerings by ear? or is there a tab somewhere i should know about? the only one i know is on banjo hangout

  • All by ear. =)

  • well done sir

    check out my stuff :)

  • You rock dude!

  • Not really, but thanks!

  • I'm just about to start on banjo, and this song is my biggest inspiration to play. What advice (generally) could you give to a brand new banjo player (who's used to playing stringed instruments tuned in 4ths :/) who wants to play this song?

  • Great song to start with. Learn how to play by ear as well as the theory behind the music! Left/hand hand techniques are key to mistake-free playing. Do it right from the beginning.

  • Superb ! Now you seen my canoe anywhere ?

  • Wow! Great job. I've loved this tune for years. You more than do it justice.

  • That's gorgeous, friend!

  • You have been such an amazing influence on my playing... just wanted to say thanks for posting and sure hope our paths cross some day and we can sit and pick a little.

    Banjoistically yours,

    Jon Eric

  • Thanks!

I watched some of your vids, very impressive!

    Colin

  • this is an awesome cover

did you learn this by ear or did you use notes

    great job

  • Learned by ear. Thanks!

  • great cover. What kind of amp do you use? I just bought mine a few days ago and i know they recommend using a keyboard amp, but i am not familiar with amps of any kind (never needed any playing banjo)

  • I use a cheap Marshall. Thanks for watching!

  • Awesome job. Is that a deering sierra sitting in the background?

  • Yes, it is. It's what I play on all of my other videos.

  • Nice, that will hopefully be my next purchase. I met the owner of deering a while back, he's pretty cool.

  • cool^^

  • Sweeeet. great job!!!

  • Thanks, one of my favs!

  • keep up the good pickin sounds great!

  • Can the crossfire play bluegrass or is it a more jazzy sound?

  • Well....this is a bluegrass song. But you can make it sound however you want with amplifier and onboard adjustments.

  • Can you post some more bluegrass vids with the crossfire?

  • ORGASM FOR MY EARS!!!!!!!!

  • nery nice son

  • very nice!...someone who is playing it right!i'm trying to arrange this for guitar

  • Thanks. And make a vid of your guitar arrangement when you get it finished.

    Colin

  • fantastic! What tuning are you in?

  • Thanks!

    Low E

  • Awesome!

  • you rock! Awesome picking!

Where did you find the tab?

  • I figured the song out by ear, just like all of Bela's stuff. The only tab I use is what I've written.

  • thats remarkable

  • Glad you liked it. I kind of do too. Haven't listened to it in awhile.

  • fucking lovely and sweet...excuse my english bye

  • dang thats really good

  • Wow man, thats pretty amazing. I've never played the Banjo but from the sound of it thats a lot of strings to hit. Very nice.

  • Wow, that's some AWESOME banjo picking!

  • Glad you liked it! It's a great song to play when you're warming up.

  • excellent playing!

  • Excellent, lovely playing, I have read the comments but what do you mean by tuned down to E, do you mean 1st and 4th tuned to E instead of D, With "G" tuning intervals, or if not what are the notes of an open E tuning that you are using in this super vid?. Great playing anyway, Banjodag (UK)

  • E tuning...everything tuned down to...

    1st B

    2nd G#

    3rd E

    4th B

    5th E

Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed it!

  • Thanks flecktonesrock, you are a star indeed.

Happy Christmas and super new year to you and yours.

  • Did you have any problem with the strings getting "too slacky" when you tuned down to E?

  • Not a "problem". It's a noticeable difference in tension though. But it's nothing you can't get used to in a few minutes.

  • Heavier strings help too, what gauge do you use?

  • The lightest gage I can find.

  • That seems that a heavier gauge would work better with lower tunings, I thought a lights would be too loose when tuned down.

  • Heavier gage may be better for tension at the lower E tuning. But it's hardly worth changing the strings. I can't stand heavy weight strings.

  • That is really great. I admire your playing.

  • Very good instrument tone and sound.

  • Very good bro, Béla would love it. Those Deering Crossfire's sound pretty good eh?

  • I like mine! I also like the construction and feel of the neck....almost better than my Sierra.

  • Hey this is great. Good job.

  • Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed it.

  • Nice playing. Your right shoulder looks kinda tense. Notice how it's higher than your left shoulder. I always notice improvements when I find a way to play looser. You might want to experiment and try to find a way to play with less tension.

  • I should probably say that I'm actually a pickstyle guitarist. But I think the stuff about tension still applies.

  • I just wanted to know how you learned that. I've been playing off and on for about 2 years. im good i just can't find the time to practice. but do you have a tab for this or dvd?

  • You should try to do that solo Bela does on the "Live at the Quick" DVD. That solo is amazing. This is a good song. Keep it up.

  • That is a good solo. I've messed with it a little. It's pretty simple compared to most of his other stuff that I've messed with.

  • I want an electric banjo :)

  • I strongly oppose the electric banjo, but that sounded sweet. I bet it'd sound even better on an acoustic though.

  • ...same here... but if you got a real mean amp, ooohhh boy i bet ye could BLAST OUT SOME METAL!!!!!!! gahahahhaha... i'm workin to get to that point... but then with an amped acoustic banjo.... HIEAL JIEAH!

  • Wow!you are great!you sound just like Bela Fleck!everyone at my skool says that i sound just like Victor Wooten and that i'm tha best bass player at skool, but i dont like being called tha best,ya know.anyways...i hope that we can play someday!till then...keep jamin!

    p.s.

    do you have a myspace?

  • Wow

  • This is awesome, I love big country.

What tuning exactly are you using? What kind of finger rolls are you using?

I'm new at banjo, this is my favorite song.

thanks, keep up with the bela!

  • It's in E tuning. What kind of finger rolls? Whatever it takes to make the melody, that's about at specific as it gets. Glad you enjoyed it!

  • Just beautiful, can I play bass for you?

  • Sure, but Canada is a long way away...

  • very true, oh well. I have never met anyone up here that can play banjo like that, exept at flectones concerts...

  • Well, thanks! You should record yourself and send me a copy. I'd love to hear it.

  • Yeah I will give it a shot.

  • That was amazing!

    Perfected Bela's Sound!

Great Job Man, keep it goin!

  • Thanks for watching guys!

  • you got the touch,man!

  • You have a fucking sweet banjo.

  • great stuff man, sounds good and even the tone isn't totally killed by the sound on the video. Great tune too! Kudos.

  • This song is way beyond...it's one of the better tunes of the last decade...

  • I agree, just not the way I play it. =)

  • This is beyond cool! I don't suppose you live in the UK and give lessons? Or at least have the tab to this song? You sure know your stuff!

  • Give lessons? That would be money/time wasted man. Sorry to disappoint. I am glad you enjoyed it though. I don't have tab, I worked a lot of it up a few minutes before recording after listening to Bela and then adding some stuff in.

    Take care

  • Super playing, and your Crossfire looks great!

Did you tune it down to E, or did you use effects?

  • I tuned down to E

    Thanks for watching!
