Great memories. John was from Baton Rouge. I grew up in Vidalia. Saw him and the band live once in Natchez and a couple of times in Ruston at La. Tech. Great showmen. God bless them all.
One of the truly great pop hits of the 1960's. Brings back great memories for me. Thanks so much for posting this. A wonderful song. Glad to know he was a good father and grandfather too.
I heard the song today and was interested in finding out the lyrics and info about the singer. I think it's one of the best songs of the 1960s. I was sad to read that he died - he seemed like a very nice guy. He was also very good looking.
I come from Texas...EAST Texas specifically...I'd have love to have known such a good man and person...Awesome tune....Thanks from my Texas heart John Fred and your Playboys...you guys were the BEST
One of the true greats I'm still heartbroken I never got to see perform; and you can TELL this was a GOOD MAN in addition to being a first class rocker.Rest in Peace knowing you'll never be forgotten.....(and really, check out all of his recordings...he was no one hit wonder he was a versatile journeyman)!
Oldtex1959 I LOVED THIS. You brought back some ROCKIN memories for me *smile*. And yes...after hearing this song (in the 60s) I got HOOKED on Lemon merange pie...and I called it "Lemonade pie". THANKS John for a FAR OUT song and OldTex1959 for the look into the life of the man *smile*
this song was rockin like the blues brothers while i was in the back of a police car and i am thinkin oh shit.then the cops let me walk away.turns out that the 2 guys who picked me up in oregon and dropped me off in eureka or somewhere in humboldt in farmland, they had axes and rope in their back trunk when the cops popped it open and the cops determined me and the other boy who got picked up hitchhikin had nothin to do with the stolen car from iowa.i felt good i got to walk down the street.farm
i can't wait, i'll keep checking back. judy is disguise is my favorite 60's song. i bought john fred's greatest hits, the jewel years and love the entire album, especially agnes english, so thank you.
I was 4 in 1968 and Loved this song...

A parody of Lucy In The Sky -well sort of. Psychedelic wacky lyrics makes a fun novelty song with funky rock

Saw them several times back in the '70s. Remember the "Battle of the Bands" with the Uniques at the Vicksburg auditorium.

We lived one block over from John Fred and his family in Baton Rouge in the 70's and early 80's. Very cool and humble guy. Good baseball coach too.
