get water and a pot. put the water in the pot. put the pot on the stove. turn on the stove. and if you really want to be adventurous, put an egg in the water on the pot on the stove and take it out after three minutes. remove shell of egg. nom it.
this is very unsafe. heating plastics may cause pieces of the polymer to be detached from the complete structure, when these molecules are consumed the may block microscopic pathways in the body and cause a build up of dead cells which may lead to a tumor
its called warming the water.. not boiling... the bubbles are air dissolved in the water(like co2 in cola) which escape when warmed... try pouring hot water from the thermal flask into the bottle n the bottle will melt straight away... but ur method is a good way to warm things up :):)
@69adrummer ROFL I read the question initially, and was like, "How do I answer that? Is this guy for real??" I figured I'd be as polite as possible and just give a straight answer. With some people, you just never know. LOL Take care!
@69adrummer You can use any type of plastic water bottle, i.e. Aquafina, Dasani, Ice Mountain, etc... that you buy in your local convenience store/gas station fridges. We just took the label off the bottle., I think this was an Ice Mountain bottle.
@megacarl87 Make it. People did it for thousands of years without a single tool. But today, we carry magnesium/flint sticks in our backpacks, B.O.B.s, RV, purses and personal vehicles. One never knows when an emergency will strike, and what better way to spend a mere 7 to 10 dollars? :)
@YounaTuber This was sort of a joke, but thanks for the advice!!! Ive been looking for flint strikers, but my mom would be conserned, she already thinks im a pyro.
@megacarl87 Hahah! I was gonna say... wow... this one really some guidance here.... :) Check a surplus store. They all carry them, and you could always say you're looking for paintball gear, and go in looking for paintball gear. You don't actually have to buy to look for it. LOL :)
Wired for a guy? I'm not sure what you mean. I only saw my thumb in the video at the very end holding the mug, just for a second or two. "Kinda wired for a guy?" Maybe the polish? I had them done to look like candy cane stripes and sparkles for New Year's Eve. *shrug* :)
These plastics may not be formulated to be heated and can release very toxic substances into the water. If you have a plastic container, you may as well have a metal one so you can keep a boil for a few minutes to kill microbes.
This is quite possible, but I had in mind more of a survival scenario, hiking...wrong turn...lost...out of water..find questionable water source... I think it would be more probable to find an empty plastic bottle before a metal container, and this would be my suggestion, sterilize the water in the plastic bottle. Granted, there may be toxins in the plastic, but I just thought it was a good thing to know, that it is possible to do.
But great points to be aware of. Thanks for sharing them!
lol A bomb. There was no air left in the bottle when we sealed it, other than the oxygen in the water. Also, it is plastic, not glass. It expands, as seen in the video. The lack of air above the water level makes a difference. Also, when we opened the lid to pour it into the mug, there was no hiss, no burst of pressure, no hissing as one might find in a shaken bottle of carbonated drink. Perhaps it might happen if we left in on the fire for an hour, but not in this monitored situation.
actually if you notice, it does melt in a way since the bottle is in fact expanding, it's just not melting in the way we normally imagine cause it's not directly in the flames
Make sure the paper is not easily soaked in water and fall apart. By the way, you can use cups that made of paper they don't get soaked too quickly. You can at least melt ice in it quickly.
Thanks. This can surely be useful for Vishnu worshipers on pilgrimage in India. Since Vaishnavas wouldn't use pots in an unknown house (what if the pots were used for cooking meat?!) and it's quite risky to drink raw water in India, it would be good to consider this method of boiling then.
That's pretty bad ass. This video is very good, it instructs, it provides with knowledge, and it also has a bit of humor. Thanks this may come in handy to me someday. 5/5 =[)
i about 900 percent sure that i dont have even a 1/3333333333333333333333 enough patience to try this. but you are right i might need it someday, and when that day comes i will say, now what was it they told me to do.... LOL
just given you a hard time, great vid, very good information....
So long as there is no air in that container, it will not burst. You can actually nestle the bottle in among the embers and sit back down to watch and wait. Just watch when it starts to boil, that the bubbles don't burst the top open from pressure. We used a quick-biodegradable, eco-friendly (VERY THIN) plastic bottle. If any bottle is going to burst, it would have been that one. Try it! Make a video response and show me how it turns out! :))
Thanks for the great video!

Actually they will release phtalate, which is a substance acting like a hormon in your body. Use a Paper bag instead :)
WolYou 2 years ago
while yes, it will release toxins, there aren't enough to make you sick from the one use, tho it certainly isn't something you want to do everyday

Neat... but you have made a Bomb by sealing the container. The lid is not needed and potentially dangerous.
As long as the plastic or paper that is in close proximity to the heat source is in contact with the water... all is good.
I suppose the sealed container helps it boil faster (pressure = higher temperature).... but, let the pressure build too much and POP.
I just boiled water in a sandwich baggy to verify my previous statement. :)
