Wow I never thought how clever people can REALLY be when they debate. Usually people just argue and fight with each other, but.. Wow, down this page and the comments, check it out!! My respect you dudes! You really did lighten me some things in Neon Genesis Evangelion, and also showed that people truly can be nice to each other. Rei and Nagisa, the Hope, would be proud of you!!! /ÖvÖ\
@TriceRiel I think it was actually his selfishness. He hadn't wanted to lose his identity, regardless that he, himself wasn't happy with his identity; he just didn't want to lose himself.
i rate 5 stars im a massive eva junkie the first anime i watched (that i class a anime) i tihnk i must know this naime word for word yet i have notihng in my room of evangelion "has a real eva in my back garden" "right then, weres the chavs" xD
This really was a great anime movie. Great job with the editing to the soundtrack. When I heard this song during the last scene of the movie, it kinda creeped me out a little. But it was very interesting how visuals and soundtrack combine can produce that kind of affect. I guess I was thinking about end of the world type of thing, but at the same time, I got the notion that it was more like
I just wanted to annotate something in regards to your desc saying evangelion has no theme.
The original evangelion tv series (original end) Was ment to closely mirror the theme behind "The Wall" in that, shinji had to learn not to be so closed off to the point in which he had such a negative view about himself, the better part of the story was spent making characters a reflection of differant parts of shinji then him coming to terms with the fact that he wasnt perfect but that was alright>
If you're referring to Axel's comment, then I have to inform you that he's right, Dnoon. Christian mythological symbols were chosen because they're exotic and tied to the occult in Japan. While the subject matter is very serious and deals with interpersonal relationships and introversion, the religious symbolism is all incidental.
That is a quote from the Assistant Director, not the person who experienced the inspirational moments or relationships and revelations.
Freud and the Bible are quoted by the Director(Anno) as breaking him out of his awful state of mind. And frankly he doesn't have to state it outrigth when he could leave visual cues in all his later films, and he does.
Watch Wings of Honneamise, that's the first attempt.
Did anyone apart from me feel that NGE is more than a TV series???
It has absolutely EVERYTHING: a really good plot, the deepest characters I've ever seen, an epic and dramatic connotation and a beautiful travel through psychology and philosophy
I think everyone should see it at least once, in order to understand better human mind and, why not, to have a very good time
Please answer and tell me what you think. Thanks ;)
This is a masterpiece of 90's anime. Watch death & rebirth and watch The end of evangelion (And u must watch the tv series). And Then!! you must watch the third of rebuild of evangelion (This will become the sequel of the end of evangelion "i think" because it said that it'll be a new movie not just remake). Than you will understand everything (there is no religious meaning here).
The rebuild of evangelion is a retelling of the story with slight differances. However, the rebuild of evangelion is in no way a sequal nor will any of the movies be a sequal. The major issue I have with rebuild of evangelion is that it no longer has the interpersonal relations aspect in such a discreet tone as it used to be. Now you can just look and say "yup shinji is in a shell and the story is ment for him to come out" in the original, you had to piece the entire story together to get that.
Sexuality is so all pervasive in nature, eh... this series showed that and its inate oneness perfectly: that we are God's perfect thoughts, if you will.
well Shinji's decision isn't necessarily negating it, unless one finds physical reality in some way inadequate - my post was a bit on the metaphysical side, rather than on quite the literal level of Neon Genesis. The more I type, the deeper the logical loop in what I type becomes... I wonder how much dafter I can get.
@imkungfu4yoo It wasn't his 'selfishness', in the beginning he wanted everyone to be the same so no one would get hurt. Then in the end he realized that wasn't the answer... 3 years late reply, but yeah.
@TriceRiel I think it was actually his selfishness. He hadn't wanted to lose his identity, regardless that he, himself wasn't happy with his identity; he just didn't want to lose himself.
Then again, who would? It goes against everything that makes us human. Only those who are irreversably deluded, like Seele, would, and even then they still thought they'd keep some sort of identity and influence upon the world - the only reson they did it, in fact, was to become gods. Not to become a -part- of a god, but to -be- the god.
@thrilhouse007 Thrillhouse you have some of the answer, you have part of the answer. Yes shinji did not like himself, but found it preferable to retain his identity than to condemn the world to a meaningless homogenous existance. Look at it this way, if everyone was a nazi there would be no conflict because everyone lived, behaved and believed the same way, but would you want to live in a world like that?
@cephjiwu Actually, the creator just took occidental bible's names coz its Cool in japan. And the series is to make Nerds and Otaku to think better of themselves.
I am never watching this film....ever.....never....

cephjiwu 4 years ago 2
actually the series didnt really show that at all.
in the end shinji stopped everyone "becoming one"
out of his selfishness to have a world that had him in it.
the creator kind of put this movie together as a slap in the face to those that threatened him about the incomplete ending of the series.
